Ok first some background before my idea.
Quote: Having operated a Battlecruiser with a fast moving gang consisting of mainly interceptors, frigates and a interdictor; I found myself having trouble keeping up with these fast aligning vessels. Also when we did engage I was called primary due to being the largest vessel there in the gang, so when I went down my gang lost the benifit of the gang links I was carrying (I could only activate 1 at a time but I had several so I could customise the link to fit the situation).
This made me consider a way of making my gang link capabilities more useful to fast moving wolf packs. The answer was a "Interceptor Gang leader" who would be a " Specialist Gang Link provider".
This would be an interceptor that gave up some combat capabilities in return for the ability to operate a gang link or give up all combat capabilities to carry 2 or 3 in total (so they can customise which link to use to the situation).
This would provide a fast moving ship for the leader, but which is more fragile than a battlecruiser or command ship.
For example an Amarr Command Interceptor could be based on the Malediction interceptor but with only 3 highs (2 missile turrents & a spot for a gang link), and the bonus towards the gang link instead of a missile bonus.
What do you think?
Ps it would be nice if the gang link didn't deactivate when you are warping.

Having thought about it, it would proberly be a T3 frigate. Tougher but more specialised.

Originally by: Nian Banks No way, for a small frigate fleet you should have a tier2 destroyer with a gang assist module. and then make the tech2 version with a bonus to gang assist modules but still only able to fit 1 module.
But that would defeat the purpose of the whole idea; I mean if I saw a gang of interceptors & 1 destroyer, I would call the destroyer primary incase it was an interdictor.
An interceptor gang leader would not stand out as much, it would require good intel from scouts or examination of ship types during battle to pick the gang link vessel. |
