The Primary Target wrote:The problem with removing off-grid links entirely is that it will asymmetrically penalize small gang and solo pvpers. This is because a large gang will have ready access to deploy links on grid, where as a small gang or solo group will have trouble deploying links at all. I know many are of the opinion the only truly solo pvp is without links, however they are a powerful force multipliers and giving one side ready access to them will give asymmetric bonuses to one side. I feel this is not healthy for the game.
A compromise is to allow squad commanders to still give off-grid links while making wing and fleet commanders on-grid only. This allows small gang pvpers to benefit from links just as much as large groups, but forces links to be moved on grid for a large fleet. This means in large fleet fights links will be a target-able asset as I'm sure is intended, without overly limiting another entirely valid style of game play.
So the problem is, "Waaaaaaaaaaaaah, my links alt!" Well, sorry about that. My small gangs suffer too, but I still completely support off grid boost removal in its entirety. Off grid boosting is out of control and needs to go. |

But I have another question ... What about those boosting T3! Bringing those things on grid is a free kill mail to the other side! Warfare subsystems will be obsolete.
I've said this before... Off-grid links are more fair that on-grid links... everyone can bring theirs with the same level of risk the small gang and the larger gang. Removing them will only generate "less" figths. Pick you poison.
Don't mix boosted and no boosts in this ... it has nothing to do with off-grid and on-grid. Don't mix out-of-line hulls in this... links only augment it and the removal of links is not the solution.
T3s are free KMs because they're fit solely as an off-grid booster. The same is true of off grid commandships. That's the whole point. You shouldn't be able to make a fail fit ship just for boosting and have it off grid where it's not in any danger. The whole reason it's fail fit is because you are counting on the fact that it will not be in danger. This is what they're getting rid of. You want links? You have to risk losing them in the fight they pertain to. Off grid links definitely need to go. |

The problem with entirely removing off-grid boosting is... it can't come fast enough. Jesus Christ just do it already. It should have been in the command dessie patch. |

And as I mentioned earlier, tweak the spread of the boosts from on grid to off grid so that you get a little off grid boosts, and a lot of on grid boosts to match the risk reward.
Why? There's no valid gameplay reason to do that. It's not consistent with any other aspect of the game. I can't shoot you from off grid, rep you from off grid, scram you from off gird, etc. Why would there be any compromise here? **** gets nerfed all the time. You don't generally get compensated for it. There are simpler game you can play. If all you care about is the gank/tank ratio vs your opponent and the one with the most exp wins, try World of Worldcraft.
And if you can't make an argument, try posting memes on Reddit. There's no reason off-grid boosters should be able to affect a grid that they are in complete safety from, like every other ship mechanic in the game. They need to go completely with no concessions given. |

This is my links account.
Estella Osoka wrote: To the self-entitled players who think solo play in an MMO is a thing, harden up and pick better targets.
As opposed to self entitled players who think their multiple accounts should mean they win all the time?
Estella Osoka wrote: Why should links not be brought on grid? Because doing so doesn't make it balanced for all areas of play. Specifically, HISEC. All the opposing person/fleet has to do is use a neutral alt. In which case you would have to gank the links to get rid of them. Thus sacrificing some ships.
Hahahaha, what? You can already do that with an off grid booster! There's no reason at all you can't use an OGB in high sec, only now you can't gank it because you had no idea it was even there because it's *gasp* off grid. Or if you did know it was there, you had to scan it down first, then gank it. Oh yes, that's a vast improvement. Your argument is just another reason to remove off grid links. They are even more cancerous in high sec. |

Estella Osoka wrote:But but but... it won't be perfect so we shouldn't even try!
You have got to be kidding me with how absurd your argument sounds. Yes, there will be high sec technicalities to sort out as there always are, but that doesn't mean we just abandon the entire idea. What you've done is just drum a smoke screen by finding a small flaw and trying to use it as justification for keeping your precious links, of which we all enjoy or are capable of enjoying, btw, so don't act like you're losing something we're not, or we're gaining something you aren't. We're just putting mechanics more in line with rest of the game's fleet assist mechanics, meaning you don't get to enjoy it if you don't risk it on the same grid you're enjoying it on. Sorry if that offends you. The technicalities will be sorted one way or another. |

If a carrier assigned you 1 fighter and you had no drones out, you now have -25 bandwidth. So, if you have 30 and 1 fighter assisted, you can only launch 1 light (5), not the 4 others.
How many links can you fit with at least 50k ehp?
Because an equivalent time in scanning skills is the proper counter to a t3 obg?
It was my understanding that it didn't affect bandwidth at all and it was only based on the number of drones, so a frigate could get 5 fighters assigned to it because that's how many drones your skills could control. Going to have to correct my source on this if that's how it worked... No idea It actually takes a much shorter time to train perfect scanning skills compared to a perfect ogb. Also command ships can reach the same difficulty as t3s for probing down. I'm not calling for nerfs or buffs to training time in either category, however you can choose to invest some skills in scanning and probe them down. Otherwise why not just remove all the scanning skills so that everyone can probe down even the most difficult in sigs with ease.
Or you could just remove off grid boosting. |

Kagura Nikon wrote:Max Deveron wrote:Seriously, with 7,800 km of grid space there is absolutely no reason to keep/allow off grid boosting.
The booster could still be on grid and..... 1.) still require probes 2.) a cloaky to get close for warp in 3.) a really fast interceptor to provide a warp in.
With the larger grids now.... 1.) a fleet could keep an eye on their booster and warp help to it at a moments notice. 2.) the booster...even as an alt would see most trouble coming its way and start burning for safety or warp to it his damn self to protect the booster.
So what is the issue again? Why do we need OGB? Hell at this point i would not mind all boosting to be on grid....that includes orcas and rorqs. 7800 km grid means nothing, really probes will pin point you in exactly 10 seconds... Offgrid boost gone, great, but now They should possibly revisit some of the old nerfs they made to the boosts. I woudl say command ships bonuses should become a bit higher now, sicne they are much less mobile than for example the command destroyers and therefore MUCH more vulnerable. On my eyes, unless you increase Commadn ships bonus to something like 5% per level you are never going to see them, but only CD.
Uh, no. It's your job to defend your own links. That's why they're being forced on grid. You have to defend them now, not just spam D-Scan until you see probes and click warp. You're going to have to pull your guns out and shoot at something, or jam something, or web something, or do anything other than cloak and find another safe. |
