Ivy League and Eve Uni are once again engaged in Hostilities with Privateers, with warfare starting tonight. We have fought Privateers before and they fought well and they fought clean, without smack and the Uni had alot of fun doing it. I know that we'll have alot of fun this time as well, and we look forward to fighting them again.
We will stick to our normal rules though and refrain from talking in local, to the war targets. Good hunting and good luck.

You guys should talk some! I try to make witty (not always smack-y) comments in local, and I don't like feeling like I'm talking to myself!
Looking forward to good fights! I still have some of the setups you gave me in TBB, Silent! And I know how E-UNI fights. No easy targets here.
Hope you guys kick my posterior once just to show the others how it's done! -- Max sig dimensions are 400W x 120H - Cathath ([email protected])

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 16/01/2007 10:49:42 I don't mind privateers being easy-mode nubs too much tbh, but you should really leave corps like eve-uni alone imo.
It actually makes sense btw. If you let the nubs get on their feet, they'll be that much better targets later on when they've grown up a bit.

When our corp still wasnt in PRVTR Alliance, we used to declare war on noobs and stuff.
You would be amazed by the amount of thanks we got for showing them the real side of EVE and giving them nice figts :) ---

Fair point, however, it'd be far more straightforward in the case of Eve UNiversity to simply ask them if they'd like a wardec for a week or two as training.
Other corps I couldnt care less about, they can deal with a wardec fine and you won't keep it up forever anyway if they play it right. But well, Eve uni is something special in my book, just give them a bit more consideration.

I have to say that i dont consider them a noob corp anymore..They have come a long way with the noob school and have established themselfes as a worthy opponent and got some good leaders for the youngsters they take in..
They proved it during the big blue period and even tho they lost it was impressive to see what they got together sometimes..
I look forward to another war, will be great fun and nothing is beter than a silent local..

Turnover at E-Uni is pretty high, which is to be expected and is kind of the point. So the bulk of the membership is quite young with a few vets sprinkled in.
An occasional war-dec is good for the Uni. But constant war decs are a drag, since recruitment is shut down and classes are stopped. Would-be miners and industrialists are the hardest hit, along with the most inexperienced members. Since E-Uni has a pretty open recruitment policy, any one who plans a wardec is able to get their alts in first to spy, which happens all the time. The Uni never has that advantage.

I believe an occasional war is good for E-uni, it offers an opportunity to show new players what is after all the main aspect of Eve. While in-corp tournaments, free for all furballs, lessons, practicals: forays into low sec and 0.0, chasing and baiting ore thieves, etc offer a chance to demonstrate and practice pvp skills, nothing quite compares to a real war. Often you find a lot of players whom would never even considered pvp find they really enjoy it.
The key word being occasional, as it does interrupt other teaching activities and necessitates the need to lock down recruitment and thus stop welcoming new players. Though any non hostile is of course very welcome to hang out in our in game channel "Eve University", be it to chat or ask questions etc.
Look forward to crossing swords with Beyond Divinity Inc.

There is lots of good reasons why you shouldn't say anything in local. Its so easy to cause offence with someone even when you don't intend to. Given eve is a multicultural game just about anything that can be said can be construed in a negative light.

I know EvE-U is more than just a bunch of nubs (it's a bunch of bloodthirsty nubs with some combat experience!), but in all seriousness, wardeccing them is kinda weak, why not wait for the students to move on and then wardec the alliances they move to?
On the other hand, maybe setting up an agreement with EvE-U would make some sense. One week a month, the Privateer Alliance wardecs Ivy League and both sides go at each other. It's legitimate and good experience for both sides. Some of those nubbins in The U may well end up as Privateers anyways!

I have much respect for Ivy League.
From my perspective, they are more organized and efficient than the 'brand name' alliances.
Having said that, I made my bones on IVY and am looking forward to many good fights. Good hunting and good luck. |

Generally we are sponsored for the fights. We don't always choose them.
But if indeed this one was chosen by us, it would be for plenty of good reason, these guys can fight.
I bet their a lot of their new members can whoop some veteran posterior.

Hearts to E-Uni.
From all the people I've been talking to at the Uni it looks like they are more excited than afraid of the fighting. I remember when I was in school, undocking in a punisher and getting my first killmail against a t2 something or other. I was proud and excited and full of adrenaline.
Let me tell you, when you get a bunch of 2 month old players together and explain to them "if we stick together and fly smart, we can take down characters that are 2 years older than ourselves" the reaction you get involves a lot of cheering and then comparing ship setups.
So long as people don't keep the Uni constantly War Decc'ed, this can do nothing but make it a better place to learn.

Seem to remember Eve Uni were one of the tougher alliances we have fought due to
1) Uber Vets who are in euni as nothing left in game to interest them 2) Hordes of nubs in frigs happy to sit on gates for hour on end.
Also the very nature of their newness = crappy loot unless you catch one of the vets.
They in general seemed pretty sound people as well.
However, it is obvious to me that the noobs need freeing from their alliance masters chains, forcing them to mine veldspar and run lv1 missions so i will do my damndest.

Totally agree with this. Eve Uni is a great idea and offers an awesome service. If asked, I'm sure they would accept a chance for it's members to engage in some fighting. I would have given them some consideration out of respect alone.

One idea that PA has been kicking around for some time is to start an alliance corp specifically for new players that are interested in learning to PvP. I was a PvP nub when I joined PA (I still am actually) and I've learned more in the past few weeks about PvP than I did in over a year of on-and-off playing. When you're at war with half the server population and have lots of people to group with, you NEVER have a problem finding targets or teaming up with people, and you can do it at a time that is convenient for you. It really is a PvP player's dream, AND a great learning experience.
EveUni might want to consider some kind of partnership with PA to set up such a corp with us ("YaaarVARD" anyone? ), or at least encourage its members to set up an alt with us to get a taste of PvP.

That's a terrific idea. Sort of internships for those who want more pvp. Though, honestly, the Uni has been under attack quite a bit lately anyway -- probably more than is good for it. A war every now and then is great, but the constant war-decs are a little problem.
