Ok, ok, blah blah blah , privateers privateers.
But here's something in response to another post made earlier in which Makree of Ubar Asteroid Hugging Collective stated of the Privateer Alliance: "... they are indeed more like historical privateers. But instead of having a letter form Betty giving them the right to bash a few spaniards, they have letters from CONCORD giving them the right to bash a few corps" (http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=460832)
Buzzzz --- NOT.
CONCORD has not given an letter(s) to this hi-sec pirate alliance (and that is all it really is, a bunch of pirates using the game's mechanics to turn hi sec into low sec for only a certain group of players).
I quote from our beloved WIKI source of info: "A privateer was a private ship (or its captain) authorized by a country's government to attack and seize cargo from another country's ships. . . . Prior to the development of international law among European nations, there was no legal recourse for minor grievances. Privateering was a form of covert operation used to resolve these matters without open warfare. The government of a country provided a letter of marque and reprisal to a shipowner that allowed him to arm his ship and attack other ships sailing under a particular flag. In return, he received a share of the seized cargo, while the rest went to the government as payment for the grievance . . . . a privateer looked very much like a pirate, and indeed this was the intention (and at times privateers would convert to piracy). The only difference was that pirates were considered outlaws by all nations, while privateers had immunity from the country that commissioned them, and were considered as prisoners of war if caught by other countries."
Clearly, this is NOT the so-called Privateer Alliance.
1. They represent no other government (alliance/corp) in Eve.
2. They are not seeking to resolve any minor grievance between rival corps/alliances.
3. There is nothing covert about the PA. They are engaging in open warfare.
4. PA fights under no one else's flag/colors (alliance icon) since they represent no one but themselves.
5. PA keeps all its loot and does NOT give it to any other alliance/corp they are representing -- they are pirates, plain and simple.
Interestingly, this article also says that privateers often resorted to piracy after their legitimate work for a particular country was over. Eve's little band of gankers, however, have co-opted the name privateers, when in reality, they have gone straight to piracy using the game's mechanics.
SO HERE'S THE SOLUTION -- ready everyone -- it's really fairly simple: USE ALTS to haul and travel. I mean, since PA is spread all over Eve, especially the major hubs, don't use your mammoth to take a BPO and T2 stuff from Jita to Renyn. Mmkay. Deny them targets and they will die as an alliance.

Shut the hell up about Privateers for once. Just because that is their name doesn't mean they have to follow the rules that the name might imply in this lovely game. These rubbish arguments wouldn't be at all present if they had a name like "Doom Squad of Doominess" would they.
I don't get what peoples problem with the Privateers is.. I don't like them myself, but it isn't because they don't follow the exact definition of their name.

Their mass are preventing people from mining veld, obviously they run to the forum rather then try and fix it ingame.

Can ISD just make a sticky for all these empire hugging monkeys to scream "OMG PRIVATEERS ARE TEH EBIL, WE WILL NEVER BE SAFE AGAIN AHHHH!!1!11!!" so that the rest of us can more easly avoid this nonsense.

You don't understand this game. There is no secure space. Even with NPC corps there is chance to die to suicide gangs who will just:
"Keep bumping your hauler, not letting you warp while inspecting cargo, suicide if worthy"

Maybe Surreptitious should get in touch with the current Betty and get a letter from her. Then all would be good.
Also I said "more like" not "exactly the same".
