Hypothetical problem, but one that's bound to occur sooner or later.
I've just fitted a couple of cargo rigs to a mining barge. What happens when/if I want to sell it????

Direct trade in station or asking a third party escrower to trade for you seem to be the only ways at the minute.

I've already heard about people getting scammed on this one. Is there a way of checking wether what you are buying has rigs fitted or not?

I believe you can contract packaged ships as long as they don't have any charges loaded in it's weapons and has full armor/structure.

A contract can be made for an unpackaged ship. The problem is, the rigs cannot be inspected in the contract by the potential buyer.
So a contract saying "Ferox with 3 rigs!!!111" is unverifiable. You have to go the escrow/mutually trusted 3rd party route.

So what we need is to be able to look at the rigs in the contract. Devs, y'all readin this? However, I still think EvE needs more and better tactical warning sounds.

I get the following error message when trying to contract an empty ship fitted only with rigs:
"You cannot unfit an upgrade. Once installed the ship can only be rid of them by being reprocessed or repackaged. Either of these actions which will result in the destruction of the upgrade."
I assume rigs would be destroyed if contracted but I haven't gone ahead and tried it. Anyone have some actual experience here? As for possible solution, do ship scanners detect rigs fitted?

As a possible solution, what about if rigs could be switched directly from one ship to another?
You want to sell a ship, rigs can be dragged and dropped onto another ship in your hanger.
I know this defeats the point of them not being removable, but something has to be done. I'm buggered if I'm paying 35-40 mill for something that a) cant be removed and sold on, and b) hinders the future sale of the ship it's fitted to.

Exactly.
Since rigs are the pimp my ride modifications that cant be removed once fitted - there must be a way for other people to see them. Especially when selling.

Yeah, pretty much SOL, which is the way its meant to be. Once you plug the suckers in there's no real way to get money from them except in rare circumstances like trading with a corp member or very trustworthy friend. Such is their design. ----------------------------------------------------

Or only buy a rig with the understanding that it'll be destroyed once your ship is repackaged for sale and so on.

selling ships via contract with a sub list of any fitted rigs would be an acceptible outcome that said dont expect CCP to do much about it

Edited by: Mnengli Noiliffe on 17/01/2007 08:34:01 I believe it's a bug - I IIRC some dev said thet they want rigged ships to be sold via contracts... but maybe I am wrong.

There's probably still a few User Interface issues with rigs. They're brand new after all.
For instance, currently there is no way to fit rigs to ships that cannot dock to a station, like Motherships and Titans.
While I can follow the argument that rigs are personal items like implants, well, I still believe this may get fixed. --
