With the whole walking around in station things and as capsuleers are the creme de la creme of the population it seems only natural that people should be able to sit down and play some texas hold'em or gamble away some isk for fun. Anyone else think this is a good idea?

Theres alread a player-run casino available through the ingame browser.
Whether you trust it not to be a scam is another question entirely. I don't think I trust it.

This is really a non-starter. Some net nannies would start to block Eve. Some countries would require CCP to get a gaming licence. And in some countries exposing minors to gambling is a criminal offence.
So, unless you want your subs going to posh lawyers then I would say CCP would be better to give this a miss.

They can sue anyone, anywhere. And its never a good move to ignore a court summons if one drops in your lap. Judges don't like it and arrest warrants are issued. And I'm not going to check which countries Iceland have extradiction treaties with, but I would think it would be a few.

Wow, this is an awesome idea.
I think they should be NPC run in empire, but you can add them to outposts. How sweet would it be for a big alliance or something to host a Poker Tournament in the depths of 0.0 with 10B ISK Buy ins, winner walking away with 100B or something of the sort.
I think it is that kind of feature that, although its a lot of work, and possibly more than its worth to the average player, adds to the immersion of the game, and possibly attracts new people to it. EVE's allure is not raids or grinding or levels. It's the stories, the fact that you can be a industrialist turned pirate or a miner turned alliance executor. A persona with limitless potential.

I don't see how there would be legal dificulties. First of all no real money is generated or bet, hence no need for gaming licences. Second of all, how is this different from other casino simulation games you can buy for the playstation and PC that don't even have age limits?
When I got my old playstation there was a free disk with some random 'Family Games' on it and one was a casino game where you can bet on blackjack, roulette and poker and so on. I see no difference in that and gambling ingame money in eve. ------

The connection between ingame and RL cash is a lot more prevalent in EVE than in playstation family games. So it's possible to argue the case that it should be covered by gambling laws, but personally I don't think it would be a very good case. The EULA clearly states that all ingame items are the property of CCP anyways, which should also protect them against a lot of allegations. -----

Agreed, although I think if you own an outpost you should be abe to have an NPC charter casino installed. You wouldn't make any isk off of it, but it wouldn't really cost you anything to have it either. Why there should be a breathalyzer to login to Eve:

CCP won't need a gaming liscence aslon as all gambling happens in isk. Why? According to CCP's EULA (and all law about MMOs) virtual currency is not currency, all "isk" remains CCP's property at all times (even when it's in your characters wallet- because that character and that wallet belong to CCP too), and so no gambling is actually taking place- no more than if I buy a "virtual poker" game for playstation and begin playing against AI oponents- no money actually changes hands.
On a different note- I want to see these casinos include a EVE CCG gaming table -----------------------------------------------

Which link is easier to make back to RL?
1 )Hey I just killed someone in a spaceship, I think I'll go out in RL and do it!!
or...
2)I just won 50mill ISK on poker. This is a mugs game and my system is foolproof. Foolproof I tell you! I'll just borrow moms credit card and play for cash. I'll rule the world!

Stations used to have a casino button (but there was nothing implemented underneath it) in Station Services panel back in Beta. I wonder why it got shelved/removed. Legal issues?
