Hi, I have been seeing ppl writing about having two characters at the same time using only one computer, I know you can have more then one account and you can use a character for helping the other in different account, well I've tried to use two characters on one computer but the game crashes all the time, sometimes it holds for a while but most of the times it crashes. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a configuration or a trick you can use to sustain both characters at same time on one computer?

Edited by: sugark on 18/01/2007 22:11:45 Well, normally it isnŠt needed to do that, but you could try installing the client a second time. Maybe it works this way.
edit: oh, and you can only run one character per account at any give time. But I guess you figured that out already

To be clear: - You can only run 2 characters at the same time if you have two accounts. (You can't run two alts on one account at the same time).
That said: Usually if the 2nd account/client crashes, it's a problem with memory or video card. You can try the following:
Hit the ESC key to bring up your graphics options: - Make sure no other programs are running in the background. - Turn "OFF" "Sun is occluded by ships" in the General Tab - Set "None" under "Depth Buffer Type" in the Graphics Tab - Set "16bit" under "Color Depth" in the Graphics Tab I find these significantly reduce the load on the graphics card, and can run up to 5 clients simultaneously with a medium-spec graphics card and 2Gb of RAM.

It helps to have separate installs, but the key is a hugely beefy PC though. Your average Emachine won't be able to pull it off. 4Ghz Dual core, 2GB+ RAM, 512MB recent video card type machine, not a 2GHz, 512MB, GeForce MX kind of machine. -- Lil Miner Newbie Skills Roadmap | How to Build from a BPO |

I regularly run 2 clients on a AMD 3500+ (2.2GHz), 1GB RAM, Integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150 Graphics. Cost me about $400 CAN to build that system. So you don't need to have anything too over the top to run two clients. I would recommend checking to make sure that you have the most recent drivers for your video and sound. As states earlier, turning down the in game graphics options/effects can help. Also, you can't run two characters on the same account on trial accounts.

Edited by: Billy Sastard on 18/01/2007 22:55:52 Actually, I am able to run 2 accounts on my 'crappy' 2nd PC, which is a 1.4GHz, 512mb RAM, GF4 128mb system. Albeit it is a bit slow, but I have not experienced any crashes. The OP might want to check for anything running in the background, as on a lower end system, extra apps running could cause problems. I would suggest killing evertything and then running EVE. -=^=-

Semi related question. I know I can't play 2 characters on 1 account at the same time, but if I create a alt on the same account can they both be training skills at the same time? For instance train up main for PVP, and have an alt training on mining/trade simultaneously. Or does only one character per account get skill points at a time?

No, not at the same time. You can swap skill training between the chars and donŠt lose any sp on any, but you canŠt train them both at the same time.

I have only my Anti-Virus running on background, I don't think it is wise to turn it off, you have your system without an Antivirus program on? If I just use my PC for playing EVE is it ok to not turn on the Antivirus? or just by being online is a risk factor?

I have never had an anti-virus program since I got my first 486 computer, and never had a virus. It's all a matter of how computer savvy you are. If you need to ask this question, chances are you do indeed need an anti-virus program running...

I run two accounts on my Laptop anf I have no reall issues. I used to have crashes of the one client so I stopped "alt tabbing between" the clients and use the windows key. Since I changed I have not had a crash....touch wood.

Ok, that's just... well, "not recommended" would be the politically correct term. You DO realize that you can be infected without your knowledge just by visiting a web page that exploits a bug in your browser, don't you? ~~~ This is my sig. Do you like it? ~~~ |

If the only thing you are doing with your connection is playing EVE, the chance of 'catching' a virus is pretty slim, especially if you are behind a firewall (My setup is a firewall/router that all my PC's are connected through, software firewalls can be a resource hog on lower end systems).
But on that note, I always have my antivirus software running on all my PC's :D. I spent 3 years working in a 'Mom-n-Pop' computer ship and about 80% of my time spent repairing pc's was cleaning up viruses. -=^=-
