I have played for a few months on a Mac. It runs well but crashes. It crashes during gate jumps (once in a while) and upon opening the browser (50% of the time). I have been playing basically without the browser because of crashes. So I bought a PC laptop. The initial experience sucked bad. (loading resources) But is now smooth as silk. I am pleased that I now have a stable machine to play EVE but a bit disappointed at the need for a PC when I've already got a Mac.

Mac....
Since the very first day they got invented they have been utter rubbish when it concerns anything to do with gaming. This still hasn't changed if you compare them to a PC.
If anyone even gives a reason to get a Mac over a PC for gaming, ignore them. Just don't do it....

Macs are solid machines...they're just not gaming computers.
I run Eve just fine on an intel-based Mac but it certainly runs better under boot camp with Windows natively installed. |

As far as I know Macs are just PCs with a different OS installed, so couldn't you just have installed Windows rather than buying a new machine?

This. Apple stopped using IBM's PowerPC CPUs and moved to Intel's x86 CPUs some time ago, so you can easily dual boot Unix, sorry I mean OSX, or Windows. |

I would say Macs are more like consoles than PCs. A locked-down proprietary machine designed to remove your freedom of choice when it comes to hardware upgrades and software, for the purpose of keeping you locked into that system so you'll give them more money in the long run.

Macs are a very complicated scheme to get you to buy adapters from displayport to whatever you actually need for only $29.99.

Then just get rid of the Mac? Or install windows on your mac... that way you can keep using overpriced hardware but have a proper OS. (not sure why you'd want to do that though)

There was a short period of time where Macs were technically great for gaming. They were trying to court more AAA games over to Mac. Didn't really work out. After they lost Halo as a Mac game, I think they just gave up. |

Steve Jobs fundamentally saved the Mac from oblivion by swapping to x86 based CPU circa 2005. Brilliant move (you could see who was winning in the chip wars). It : a) ensures the Mac's longevity b) expanded the potential of the Mac through versatility - as it could then run PC codes natively.
The Mac nowadays is essentially a proprietary PC with a proprietary OS. Stop dreaming it'll play well with the other PC/Win generics. For gaming, stay with PC/Win.
P.S. What I think of a Mac personally? Teenage fetish.

I built a Hackintosh for my ex. They make documentaries and the editor they were working with at the time was, "Buy a Mac. Buy a Mac." One of the real zealots of that brand. It was 75% of the price and +10% more power than the closest Mac Pro I could find and second from the top. It was triple booting Windows, Mac and Linux and had Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier installed. This made it flexible and it blew the Mac-tard's minds, which made it all so very worth it.
Even Apple knows that its OS is rubbish and makes Windows versions of most of its software.

Someone I know is buying a Mac laptop soon for $1500 because "it's...just superior in every way." He goes on about a 12 hour battery life and such. He doesn't game at all which is what really hit me. $1500 could build a great gaming desktop, instead he's buying an overpriced Mac to use for Uni assignments and Facebook, which could be easily done on a $200-$300 laptop running Windows. When I pointed this out he started talking about the battery life again.
