They aren't for the simple reason that it would cause the bottom to fall out of the mineral market.

My money's on a mobile refinery, except why refine it in the field at lower efficiency than at a station (no doubt) when the ship most likely has the ability to jump to a system where there is a station to refine at?
I can see it being reduced to the role of freighter in that case.
I admit I've been asleep for a while (inactive) so are there mechanics preventing capships from coming to empire space, or docking at stations? --- Should CCP enact toll gates? Discuss it here! |

Cyno's cant be generated in anything above a 0.4 and AFAIK anything bigger then a tier 1 carrier cant dock.
Mobile refining in systems without stations would is great since raw ore takes up a vast ammount of cargo space.

Im not an expert at this, but I do travel in 0.0 a lot and it always strikes me how empty it is. Apart from systems with stations or complexes and some choke points, it is pretty much deserted - which is a bit of a waste.
Some sort of mining support vessel (gang bonuses?) and the ability to refine then hold the mins might open these systems up a bit more - as someone has already said its the hauling of ore that is a major PITA. Obviously it must be a reasonable refine rate - maybe even close to 100% if you have the ore specific skill at lvl V and the ship specific skill (lvl 8?) at lvl 5

Actually, it would be fun to have a capital ship that could use some sort of mining equipment and serve as a mobile refinery. Should be dockable like mothership and have decent HP and fighters to defend itself :P

Mobile Refinery, Mobile Manufacturing, Or at least more then 3 strip miners and I'd be happy.
6 Strip miners would be awsome +2 gang mods
Mobile Refinery would also be nice, so would Mobile manufacturing :O
ammo on tap would be cool. They should be fragile as a box of cards and do diminishing returned compaired to a pos. anything akin or better then a pos would heavly imbalance the need for a pos.

As long as it can't enter high sec i'm cool with it. This would send macro farming out of control otherwise.

Since the orig post mentioned is kinda dead, ill stick my thoughts in here.......
Dont expect another miner based on what was said, Its likely to actually be some form of support craft
Im expecting it to be a of mobile refinery / support ship.
With the ability to refine ore, at probably a slightly lower level than a basic pos refinery (otherwise pos refinerys become useless) Support-wise, possibly having the gang mod fitting bonus of a bc/comm ship (99% cpu reduction) . Possible even the 3 mods at one bonus from a command ship.
Essentially making it into a refinery/Command Capital ship. Useless for soloing but useful for mining corps especially if theres no POS in the system.
Being a 'capital ship' It'll probably be limited to low sec.
But personally I dont see why it couldnt be allowed in high sec as well, especially if it ends up being a refiner/support rather than a mining ship.
Afterall most high sec will have better refining facilities at NPC stations than the ship is likely to anyway. And a command ship could do basically the same support duties for less training.
So they wouldnt really be necessary, or that useful overall in high sec anyway.

Motherships cannot dock only place you can 'dock' at is a Capital Ship Maintenance Bay.

There needs to be a sign on the entrance to the forums that says:
Your brain must be this big to ride this ride <<---------------------------------------------------------------->>
You do realize that the mineral markets (and their inherent production) haven’t even been ramped up to even a quarter of what they would/could have been? What with the royally borked respawn system (once upon a time it was good), mineral-to-ore distribution apparently arranged by a blind Jackson Pollok enthusiast, and productivity rates hardly a fraction of what virtually any other profession can yield over the same amount of time with less tedium.
More over, it’s not the minerals on the market that could collapse the EVE market(s) it’s the amount of ISK in circulation, but I guess basic macroeconomic understanding is a bit too much to ask of you since you haven’t a clue about industry either.
If CCP were to introduce a capital miner with all the bonuses and abilities of a Hulk with 8 strip miners, it still would only just begin to bring mining into the area of half as lucrative as even mission grinding and/or running down rats for bounties (and that’s before factoring in the loot mind you).

Im no industrialist, but ive got enough loot off em to make an educated guess..
A civilian module production ship
lol all joking aside, my bet would also be a mobile refinery. Rumours were about in 2003 and 2004 that such ships would be introduced, however were stopped. If theyre back int he mills as it were, im going to take a guess at : they can carry MINERALS more than Ore.
in other words, they can carry a shedload of minerals via cyno to a system of their choice, compared to hauling the ore there.
But i dunno, im just a pvper ^^

You can't dock except in Outposts/Stations.
Only use maint arrays / ship hangars while in space. Otherwise there would be problems when people logged off :o
