This tactic applies to long range Drone Carrier ships such as the Dominix and Apoc, Arbitrator, etc.
1. Purchase Small Audit Log Secure Containers.
2. Deploy and set password at 5km from the Gate.
3. Warp to your ship's maximum drone range making certain that you are able to target an enemy ship at their maximum range.
4. Deploy your drones and have them engage the Audit Container. Because the Audit Container has 100,000 HP it will take some time to actually destroy the Audit Container. Keep a drone ship with hull repair drones on hand to the container in a constant state of repair.
5.When the enemy comes through the gate the Drone Blob already be present waiting for them instead of having to deploy the drones and waiting for them to enter the fight which takes an additional 20 seconds which a lot of things can happen in those 20 seconds. On top of the Blob DPS being right in the enemies face the confusion of trying to find the Drone Carrier will cause the enemy fleet confusion resulting in more losses on their side.
6. Not having Warp Bubbles up will cause the enemy fleet to disperse in confusion or try and make it back through the gate.
7. With the Gate bubbled using small warp disruptor depots or ship deployed bubbles and the Audit Containers placed within ship deployed bubble the Drone Carriers will have the ability launch the first strike against any enemy that comes through the Gate.
Battleship, Cruiser, Destroyer, Frigate Drone Carrier - 5 Audit Containers / Beacons, 2 x Warp Disruption Depots + Interdictor Support.
This set up will allow your ships even cruisers such as the Thorax to remain off of the gate while enjoying a devastating fist strike.
Enjoy....
I don't always fly a Drone Carrier but when I do I carry several Small Audit Containers and a Warp Disruption Depot.

The only drawback is around a 30 second lock time for a Domi. |

That's what drone assist is for. Btw, camp much? |

Defending a gate is part of the environment and needs to be dealt with.
This tactic is purely for Drone Carriers to operate independently without using Drone Assist. |

Sentry Drones are better for this kind of thing to be honest.

or you could just drop your drones near the gate, abandon them and reconnect when needed

Wasn't littering gates with containers ruled an exploit due to the lag it causes or something? If it was, your tactic requires each member of a gang to deploy their own container on the gate and depending on the size of the gang doing this, you would be violating that rule. |

See: dropping ~10 cans to perform a certain tactic is okay. Dropping 50+ cans is not.
The same applies for pretty much any deployable.

I flat out do not understand what you're trying to do. The lock time of a battleship is pretty long and if you have a fastlocker frigate along, you're better off using drone assist.
I occasionally do some 'solo' 0.0 bubble/gate camping with my main in a scram/web frigate and 2x alts in Vexors assigning drones.

Bad news for you, too many bubbles and/or containers are not allowed (check eula).
And I definetly enjoy to report all those 20+ bubble camps and earn the tears ;) (i am looking at you, russian bot space with not less than 176 bubbles on a single gate) |

If your intelligent enough you will only need around six Audit Containers so that you can position your Drone Carrier at one of the Container positions.
Sentries are nice but drones up and close in the battle causes confusion for some of the enemy.
With the ability to attack using drones from around 200 km using this method you could fit your Battleship with Sensor Boosters to increase lock times without having to worry to much about fast interceptors coming out to tackle your ship. |

8. If you are in a Battleship or Combat Battlecruiser it would be best to also fit a Large Micro Jump Drive or Medium Micro Warp Drive. Once fit and your drones set to engaging the Audit Can align to an object that is not close but in in the distance. Once aligned stop your ship. If you need to Micro Jump out in a hurry you will jump into free space and not orbital space where a pursuing enemy might be able to catch you.

This
+ I think setup will benefit more from a fast lock / assist setup
