best advice I or anyone can offer you is.
Do it yourself. By this i mean experiance is the key. Find a place where you can enter 0.0 preferably, and use t1 frigs, cruisers, non expensive ships you won't mind losing.
YOu will most likely die the first 10 times you go out, but if you continue to die and don't know why PvP probably isn't what you should be specializing in.
Again, The best teacher in this game is experiance. Wheather on your own, or behind a more experiance player, the best and only way to become a better PvP'er is to die repeatedly in the search for knowledge.
For instance, I took a 70 man t1 cruiser gang into delve this evening. All of us died, yet i learned more from dieing then i did from surviving. And the whole point of the raid was to spam MC station with Spirits or die trying. Repeal Prohibition!!!!!! --------------------------------------------

Come to Lower Domain , it's a well populated low sec area with very near by accesss to 0.0 for when the hassle of aggression timers gets too much , the local alliances have plenty of pVp'ers and are good bunch to spar with , and if I ever run into you myself I'll be only too happy to give lessons ( lessons in what I don't know yet ) CVA seem to be the main players round here as much as I dislike that fact .

They're rather amusing actually. CVA had such a warm greeting for EARN when our pilots started to move into the area a few nights ago. It touched us in our hearts, and gave us a warm fuzzy feeling that someone would so readily volunteer to get shot.

I've been teaching PvP Basic classes with Agony Unleashed for several months now. In my experience, teaching PvP is very time consuming. If you are going to teach a class per week, you are looking at about 12-16 hours per week, where you are not playing Eve. Given that I could be spending this time making money or PvPing, I would not settle on a salary of less than 200M per class. It takes many months of PvP experience to know the background material well, then another month or two of teaching classes to get the hang of it.
In addition to your own time, you need the framework to do it: a website, voice server, and you need a class curriculum as well as the class materials. All I can say is, good luck, you have a lot of work ahead of you. Feel free to take some of our classes to get a feel for how it's done. Here's a link to the site so you don't have to cut and paste:

dont pay for classes, as the first post said the best way to learn is to do it yourself, you will lose isk and ships, but its the ONLY way to learn. Simulated scenario's and all that mush just wont work. If you do hire someone then they should just simply be leading your little group into real pvp.

its hard to tell u where to start. maybe try joining some 0.0 alliance. theres always nice action in 0.0. doesnt matter how old u r or how many SPs u got. everyone can fly a frig and tackle. just dont be a fool and pay for pvp training or something. its not worth it. and for gods sake dont take offers like the one above too seriously. u wont learn anything from guys like privateer. trust me. what they do doesnt have anything to do with real pvp. or do u really wanna pay for their many silly empire wars they use as an advertising tool. where they look for easy hauler/noob ganks and dock when a real pvp gang shows up? not really...

I agree that experience is the best teacher, but if you are very new to PvP, taking a class from knowledgeable instructors will make the translation easier. Often new players will take their shiny new cruiser into lowsec / 0.0, get popped, and then get frustrated. Personally, I had never PvP'd before I took Agony's classes, and it took a couple months for me to become comfortable in 0.0. I know that it would have taken a lot longer, with many more losses to get up to that level of expertise, and I would not have the benefit of learning all the tricks from experienced players. Classes give you a boost and some experience that is much cheaper than doing it "The hard way".
Of course, you should take my words with a grain of salt. -Dez --- Dez Erichs, Captain, Agony Unleashed "Veni, Vidi, Caedi" |

Join privateers for a week or indeed someone whom they at war with and you'll find yourself with ample targets upon which to practice or likewise learn how to avoid or get away from unfavourable situations. And indeed people with a wealth of experience from which to draw from.

I Like the idea which ya have planned, since I started Eve, I was a total kewbew(carebear/noob/[placenameherem, and got harassed from quite experienced players like some from BYDI, ugluuk etc(love em still, made me go bad!), and once I realized that "Eve is a PVP Game, fit to the fact or be podded"
Its a awesome idea that ya would be ready to hire a PvP teacher. I am not a qualified as I think of MAAAANY other PVP pilots, but I know the basis which makes a good PvP player. Is TS discipline, Scout skills, and a good FC with skills to spatial awarness (not the skill, but the RL skill), and to know what to expect, and what the opponent COULD even be able to muster against you.
I myself could do a smalltime OP for 1-5 times IF, I am being payed for it, and if I get time to do it.
But in sense, I wont be asking for much, its a favor to all newbs, since I got the "help" from BYDI for free, and started to think; when ofc I was being just being killed.
Mail in INGAME if ya are interested into getting a hand in PVP training.

Edited by: Solarienne on 26/01/2007 10:32:44 As many pilots have posted, do not pay for what you can learn for free! Just go to some low sec or 0.0 where you know the ganks and good fights are, and try a variety of things. Get advice from friends in game or even join FRONTIERRECRUIT channel ingame, as it is also a general discussion room for PVP, PVE, Mining and Industry. The advice is free, and as high quality as alotg of these charlatan PVP tuition corporations.
In summary - Get out there, get friendly free advice, and don't let Agony Unleashed or any other 'PVP university' take your isk before you even get popped. After all, if tyou have an up to date clone and a frigate with guns on it... you can fly into combat ;)

The best way to learn is not to spend money on the problem. Set a date for your corporation to go out and do an op, nothing big. Tech1 frigs/cruisers and fittings and just go for it and have some fun.
You can be told how to do something, you can even be shown but nothing replaces actually doing it. I used to teach people in the old FA ship fittings and what to do in certain circumstances but that only covers so much. The true teaching of PvP is being put in your pod, only then do you realise your mistakes and remember not to do that next time.
Have fun, get blown up, get a few kills but do it a couple of times a week and you will learn. In fact if you want war dec MPG (Miners Protection Guild) come to Rens and shoot at us. We can make it mutual and you can attack us anytime you want and we will give you a fight.
But in the end just have fun, don't waste money paying people who think they know it all, because no-one does. And everyone has their own style of fighting and you only discover than on your own.

Yes you can learn to pvp without paying anything; however, in pvp basic you'll learn in a few hours what it would take weeks to learn on your own. You're not paying to learn how to pvp, you're paying to learn how to pvp in a well structured, accelerated, forgiving environment. Not many new players can get out into 0.0 killing experienced pvpers within a few hours of starting.
Also, the best way to learn how to pvp is definitely to do it, which is why all classes include actual 0.0 pvp. Instruction is just the first bit of the class. You could pay some random pvper to teach you, but AU has a very well done collection of articles and we've run dozens of classes before, so you can't really beat our experience with teaching pvp.
Anyway, check out our website, I think you'll find yourself pleased with our service.
