Hi everyone,
After skilling for exploration IGÇÖd like to start exploring combat site. In high sec for now, and maybe later in low sec and wh.
For doing it I started to up my drone skills and my gallente cruiser skill. IGÇÖm currently in a Vexor, armored active tank and it work pretty well.
IGÇÖve chosen Gallente because a lot of people were telling me they were good with drones to do combat site without too much risks. But here the thing, I find there ships pretty ugly. I really like Amarr, but my first try with the omen wasnGÇÖt really sucessfull, I took a lot of damage (active armor tank too).
So here is my question : do you think amarr ships (especially cruisers I, II and later III) are good enough to do pve exploration ? I heard zealot were not bad for that, but a lot of people seem to say that amarr is more for fleet pvp.
In the mean time IGÇÖm still upgrading my drone skills because I know I can use them on amarr, so itGÇÖs not wasted. Can you tell me if I can use omen for doing what I want ? IGÇÖm also open to fitting advices.
Thanks a lot.

check out the Arbitrator... basically an amarr drone boat...
But if you have Amarr and gelente cruiser skills... you want the Stratios... now thats a sexy ship... and an all in one, do it all, exploration ship (for hi-sec)

Thanks for the answer.
I was looking to the stratios too, I once had an Astero and I agree they are damn sexy, although a bit expensive for me at the moment. I'm still learning how to fight ;)
I'll try the arbitrator, it's prettier than the "shoe" Vexor. I suppose I can fit juste like the Vexor? Active armor tank? |

Arbitrator is better if you want to do Relic/Data sites because of slot layout/PG/CPU. Having said that when you get further into the game consider the Stratios like already recommended, or even the Ishtar. Used to do daytripping into C2 WHs with it before mobile depots were a thing and you had no way to refit without exiting the WH.
For higher end sites you might consider a T3 Cruiser, but they won't be focused on drones generally. |

Tank would be almost identical.. you wont do as much dmg as the vexor with its double dmg skill bonuses but thats what your trading for looking good lol
If your paying attention its prety hard to lose a ship in hi-sec... research the site your about to attempt, and bug out if you cant take he pressure. Pirate faction cruisers are more expensive for a reason, you put that isk up front for a substantial ability increase... and the strat is all about that exploration....

Amarr ships are beautiful and flexible... in terms of engagement, that is. Try to multitask amarr ships GÇö and lack of midslots will wreck you harder than wrecking ball. If you want versatile good looking ship that hits like a truck GÇö try Gila. It may slip in DED 3, capable of 750 dps at 30 km and ~630 at drone control range. Although you probably will want mobile depot anyway, but you may easily deploy it while you scan sigs and clear that occasional anomaly at the same time. |

Thanks for all of your answers.
A friend told me to try the gila, and IGÇÖm sure itGÇÖs a very good ship. But I donGÇÖt have any skill in caldari ships nor missiles.
I think I will try the stratios because of 2 things, I have the skills, and it is sexy. My skills will improve while I will farm in high sec and not risking my ship. And when IGÇÖm ready, I will go in low sec.
I like exploring and do relic and data sites too (not in high sec tho), so the Stratios seems to be kind of a swiss knife for all these activities right ?

So do you think the Stratio would be as versatile as the Gila? |

Amarr are the best! Gallente are liberal socialists that only know how to hold hands and sing kumbaya while traveling around the galaxy in their space communes. Waco, but in space...
I explore in High Sec using a Navy Omen. Where I am there are Blood Raiders so Amarr ships are well suited. Of all of the combats sites I have done, the NPCs (whether that's Blood Raiders or Rogue Drones) have only gotten past my shields once in a Blood Vigil (unrated DED site) and then the two escalated sites thereafter.
With Heavy Pulse Lase II and Scorch my range is almost 38km...which is pretty good. If I add a Tracking Computer II with Optimal Range Script its about 45km with 2 scripts its a little over 50km...
I use all T2 equip and 3 Heat Sinks and my dps is a little over 300 almost 400 with a wave of 5 light drones.
My only concern with upgrading to a SoE ship (Astero or Stratios) is the cost. The pay back, especially if I limit myself to High Sec exploration is a long time...or could be a long time...

I forget to add that I've over 900million in my wallet. So I can afford to lose a Gila or a Stratios, even if I thing I won't lose one in high sec ;) |

T3 cruiser. Take your pick.
Grab a mobile depot and head out where ever the probe scanner takes you. You can refit from scanning ship and hacking boat, to cloaky/nullified travel mode, to uber tanked combat site runner- all in one hull, and without having to dock except to sell loot.
Selectable damage is nice, but lasers don't need much ammo on long excursions. Omni-tank might not handle the very top end PvE solo, but means you can travel between NPC faction space without swapping modules/rigs, and you are more viable in PvP if you choose to find someone to murder. Also- WH sleepers do omni anyway, so that's another option to consider.
It's a lot of eggs in one basket, but the pay out for high end PvE can pretty quickly justify the risk.

For rookies, pirate ships are best friends because you get full bonus immediately regardless of your skill lvl. .
Once lasers are your love, your ship is Phantasm. The most important to him are not the wonderful bonuses hi has, but his limitations. You can fit only 3 medium lasers, so that something can be done ship to be capstable. It is important in the early play, according to me.
Fits below are not true of last resort, but something to think about:
[Phantasm, buffer shield, kiter/sniper, Amarr space]
Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Capacitor Power Relay II Damage Control II
10MN Afterburner II Medium Shield Extender II Medium Shield Extender II Thermal Dissipation Field II EM Ward Field II Tracking Computer II (Optimal Range Script)
Heavy Beam Laser II Heavy Beam Laser II Heavy Beam Laser II Core Probe Launcher I (Sister Core Scanner Probe)
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II Medium Core Defense Field Extender II Medium Core Defense Field Extender II
Hobgoblin II x3
Gleam M x3, Aurora M x12
If your skill are not enough downgrade to meta 4, change one extender rig to another capacitor rig, etc. Fitted like this, Phantasm passes lvl3 missions like a breeze, can do some lvl4 (Rogue Drones), and kills rats on hi-sec anomalies and hi-sec sites as quickly as your lasers reloads.
[Gila, all hi-sec space explorer]
Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II
10MN Afterburner II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Adaptive Invulnerable Field II EM Ward Amplifier II
Light Missile Launcher II Light Missile Launcher II Light Missile Launcher II Light Missile Launcher II Core Probe Launcher I
Medium Drone Durability Enhancer II Medium Drone Durability Enhancer I Medium Core Defense Field Extender II
FoF missiles and Drones according to rats.
Use faction drones. Set drones to aggressive mod and to attack different targets (anyway they will attack same target, but sometimes they get confused and attack different targets). Pop, get agro, launch FofGÇÖs, launch drones. Go to next gate. Until you reach, room will be clear.

I have always loved Gallente, but frequently ask myself "Is Gallente slowly turning swamp-turd green?" Now, I paid quite a lot of money for my monitor...but my eyes aren't getting younger, maybe that's it. I recall a time however, that I thought Gallente had a nice blue tone. Hey CCP, you got me; I'll pay in Aurum (real money) to fix my now ugly ships. So keep those skins coming. I don't expect a full Serpentis line up, but I appreciate the color/colour options. |

For data/relic sites the Stratios, T3 cruisers, recon cruisers, Astero, and and cruiser are pretty good. For combat sites, the Stratios continues to excel, along with T3 cruisers, if you refit them. I roam around nullsec in a Tengu and change out the subsystems and modules for scannning and combat sites. But I think you want to go with the Stratios in your case, and get your drone skills up really high. It's cheaper than the T3s, can fit a cov-ops cloak regardless of fit, and is a great scanning ship. |

Neat thing with EVE, is you can make nearly any ship do anything you want. Doesn't mean it's going to be The BestGäó, but it can work.
That said, there are ships designed for exploration, that will do you better than others. Firstly, I would decide of where you're planning to explore, and what sites you're after. If you have a stretch of space you're keeping to (such as space you love in, a pocket, etc), then you might be better serviced to have a dedicated scanning ship, and a dedicated combat ship. Scan the route, bookmark the sites you want to run, fly back, ship up, and knock 'em out.
However, if you're wanting more of an all-in-one (as I like to fly) the Astero and Stratios may be the ships for you. The cloak makes for low/null/w-space travel a bit more safe. The Stratios (cruiser hull) can be fit rather well as an active armor tank, or a passive shield tank. Depending on your current skill set, they can be effectively used either way.
Lately, I've been using the Astero (frigate hull) for much of my exploration. As I don't discriminate in sites, I like the ability to run pretty much anything I come across in high/low.
An added bonus to the Astero/Stratios, is they are pirate faction ships, which means they don't suffer the gate block of Tech 2 ships (not to mention T3). This means access to more sites, and more opportunities for that sweet, sweet ISK. Gila is also a pirate faction ship, so it receives the same treatment as the Astero/Stratios.
If you choose to fly an Astero/Stratios/Gila, the DPS you'll be doing is in the drones. Even for the GIla, the missile DPS is pretty minute, compared to the drone damage.
That being said, end of the day, fly what you want to fly. You can make near any ship do the job. If the ship you're using isn't fun, then you're doing something wrong.

Thanks for all of your answers guys !
I finally bought a Stratios for several reasons : -I have drone V skill so I can already do some dps (not a lot, 180GǪ) -It can tank enoug in high sec with beginner skills -ItGÇÖs sexy
I love this Stratio I feel safe in it etcGǪ But I clearly donGÇÖt have enough skill to use it in low sec. IGÇÖm actually roaming guristas space to fin 3/10 ded but so far nothing.
This is where I think I shouldGÇÖve bought an Astero. Because I wouldGÇÖve been able to run 1/10 or 2/10 sites while skilling up.
While IGÇÖm learning drones to have at least hobgblin 2 IGÇÖm wondering if it is worth to also learn lasers skills ? Or should I do something like -½ general capacitor skills -+ + -½ skills that allow me to tank -+ ? IGÇÖm actually using this fit (I don't remember the rigs I have, and I'm at work...) (Keep in mind I have very few skill and I try to do my best for now :p)
And most important, I'm having fun even if I don't have enough skill or an optimal fit :) |
