The January release has been deployed on January 12 during a regular downtime. Please use this thread for general feedback and discussions.
This release brought an Electronic Warfare effects bar and the new Tronhadar Ink SKIN line starting with Minmatar hulls, as well as, improvements to the new star map and further enhancements to the opt-in camera controls. Additionally, numerous smaller, yet not less important tweaks, fixes and improvements have been deployed. And finally new CREST options have been introduced which allows for better third party tools.
The full details of all changes and improvements are available in the January release patch notes.
Please report issues with the release on the PC in the January release issues thread. For Mac users, there is, as always, a thread on the Macintosh forums for discussion of this release.

New map:
- You still have not made it possible to hide bookmarks on the Universe view and have them show in the system view. How often do I need to repeat that until I crack open that thick skull? Lag and freezing due to the bookmarks when you zoom around in the universe view has improved, but it's still there.
- The starry backrground still makes it hard to distinguish between stars in the cluster and just background images. How often do I need to repeat that until you remove the starry background. The map does not need to look this kind of pretty, it needs to be useful.
- Stars/Regions, info/data visualization still fades towards the edges of the map. This is useless and the kind of pretty that has no place in a map. How often do I need to repeat myself until you remove that fade effect?
- The universe map still starts me off in a completely random location when I open it and not centered on my actual location. This is useless and makes information gathering harder. How often do I need to repeat that until you remove that feature and make the map more useful?
System map:
- The new indicator for low number data (1 person in a system, for instance) is still completely useless and provides no information at all. If you zoom out just a little bit it turns the entire map into a sea of yellow slug.
- Why is there a fade effect on the scan probe bubbles? The top/bottom bubble's edges fade out and become darker, but the left/right bubble's edges don't. Useless eyecandy without any purpose and actually makign the map less useful.
- In general, the mouse cursor does not change the way it used to when you, for instance, hover over the edge of a bubble (indicating that you can now drag the radius around). That's counter intuitive and makes the map inferior to the old map.
- Why are the fade effects when you click on the probe handle or the bubble edges? That is completely useless and in fact makes scanning harder as you also fade out the signatures you are scanning.
- Signatures when they reach yellow/green state are too dark and, in combination with the fading when you hover over or click on something, become nearly invisible and thus hard to pinpoint and locate.
- The thick planet orbit lines need to go away. They occlude the faint moon/belt icons and make them hard to locate/see.
- If I click on a stack, for instance, a planet with lots of moons, belts and bookmarks, the expanding list does not include everything that's in that stack, even if it's short. I had an example in 49-U, planet 6, where the stack only shows the 8 moons, the planet, but not the bookmark on that planet in the tooltip list.
Probe scanner:
You still have not move the scanner buttons back to the middle of the window where they belong to and are more useful and easier to use than at the top.

New Map.
- I dont understand why people complain about the star background.. It doesnt effect the visibility of the systems at all...
- CCP Still havent made the system names anymore visible (apart from the adjacent systems) Which means the maps is useless as a map...
- Still havent made the system lines anymore visible (when in statistics view). Which means he map is useless as a map.
Bottom line... A maps purpose is to orient and show you things you cant see with the naked eye. I can see what systems I am adjacent to... they are on my overview.. I need to see systems that Im not directly connected too... Why cant you understand this CCP... Get rid of the fade... so we can see system connections and names in a entire region..

The answer, in each case, is 472.
How many times have you repeated thus far? Clearly, every time you, personally, Rivr Luzade, repeat, they increase the priority, but due to the backlog of issues during the holidays, it's 472 currently.
Please do keep repeating, it makes a HUGE difference. |

Although a dev last month said December 1.0 could be referred to as "Operation Frostline."
I suppose, given the theme music this patch day, alternate title is "Magnificent Realm" if January 2016 1.0 is too plain for one's tastes (also, adding the year suggests they think they'll still be calling patches by the month name by this time next year). |

if there was a way to turn off the starry background then it'd be ideal. so much clutter in space the bright-dark background makes it hard to read the little tiny text on the overview among others. not a deal breaker for me by any means but if the option existed then it'd be what i'd do. switch it off and have a black background to work with.....or at least a darker "space" background. i don't have the greatest sight any more and i wonder if others feel the same here. |

Because to the developer is known that the Bookmarks are wished for alliances, can we count in the next updates on it? |

I jump into my ship, from my shipmaintenance array and this happens, on a daily basis.
- The capacitor enters invisibility mode, wich is quite unfortunate as im VERY dependent on it, as im not in a capstable ship. - Several items on the ship gets listed as not online. But they still somehow work, and they give me a Nice fat Message that interrupts gameplay everytime I have a session change.
But after logging out and on a couple times, Things sort its self out. ( its like playing the lotto) Lets just hope the fc's doesnt have any neut intensive warfare planned. heh. or that all my modules are on and functioning when i reship to back into Battle.
- I decide to try the new camera option. Thinking this will be interesting. Oh wait, you can not focus it @ 5 degree on most Things. I have to mindlessly klick "c" to get it to turn. I Guess we that pvp must og back to how it was in the good old days eh. - This 1 person mode is as usefull as the overload function on a warpfeild generator. (if you didnt know, warpfield generators can be overloaded to get a Shorter cyckle, but if you have played the game, you know that when you want to take the bubble Down you have to wairt for the cyckle to end, and can only initiate a overload before the cyckle starts lol)

Hmm. So some art persons and devs had time to whomp up yet more shiny ship skins for us to spend real world money on. But didn't get around to fixing the bugs from older releases/mini-expansions. Instead we were given more bugs to find, report on, and be an unpaid QT Coalition.
Priority list conversation time perhaps? To fix a game client that's becoming blatantly unplayable for some Paying Customers?
If 'needs more pfssssh' is Icelandic for 'sorry about the bug infestation and broken promises we're on it right now', then I'll back off a bit on the squeaky wheel antics. Yes I get it you're betting on the VR game Valkyrie doing massive sales business, but you might want to pay more attention to your payroll making/building utilities payments/future investment cash junker called Eve Online. I don't want moar skins. I want a mouse cursor that works, a camera that doesn't glitch, an undock that's not a black screen gank gamble, a Launcher that doesn't eat itself, a Repair tool that Repairs, for the game server to not be so delicate that any tiny hiccup in a random connection jump leads immediately to a Socket Closed, and promises made to be followed through on.
TL;DR
I want a game client I'm paying to play on to work properly that's run by a company that keeps it's word to it's customer base.

I love CCP, your game is awsome, stop listening to and doing everything that the CSM tell you to do because they think "It's cool" and "awsome", give them all a boot to the head and go back to being a game company, not a democracy. Is there a graph somewhere to look at and get a general idea on which alliances votes for the CSM, maybe include some graph or use the new awsome map to show (when you get it to work properly and in line with people who plays the game's wishes) where these people for the most time inhabits the space, we might get a general idea about who it is that really runs the development at CCP headquarters.
I am too, tired of sockets closing and blackscreen when I undock, I hope you sort it out soon. The disconnect bug has been here for something like 6 months now and I don't dare to do any missions, I don't want to lose my Vargur missioning, as I know from the past I will only get a "nothing wrong here it must be you" message and no compensation. ( I only ever petitioned twice back in 2007-08 )
Also there has been too many changes lately, change is good sometimes yes, but I find myself logging in and just reading up about stuff all the time, when I instead really just want to play the game and enjoy. The only real great feature lately was the awsome industry interface, all other releases have in my opinion just been confusing, reading walls of text in patch notes which I can only understand half of.
"Logistics Frigates may now enter small factional warfare complexes." I get it. "ALT+marquee will now allow for drilling down into clusters" Wut?

The new map is as irritating to use as always. TBH I started relying more and more on dotlan in IGB (because that /is/ a map, not a rapidly dimming graphical perk).
All issues mentioned in earlier posts still stand (aside respecting camera shifts which is fixed now - for the record target list on screen should respect that too), no need to retype them:

I agree there's some merit to this sentiment Ein. When you invest copious amounts of time into a virtual world, it's only natural to experience a sense of propriety. And time is a commodity in this game. When releases came every 6 months, there was plenty of time to digest material and develop informed opinions. Now, with this rapid release schedule, before you can wrap your head around the last 100 changes, 100 more are made. And in 6 wks there'll be 100 more. Ad infinitum.
On the one hand, I can't possibly say I dislike the current product that is EVE. Compared to where the game was, say, two years ago, it's worlds apart both visually and in terms of gameplay. So, on the whole, improvements outweigh criticisms. But on the other, it's still fair to say that the usefulness of player feedback likely suffers with rapid releases as well. I've felt this same sense that the game is changing so rapidly that it's almost impossible to have an informed opinion on many things. This affects one's feeling of ownership of their game when you're unsure of what's going on. Is it a problem? Does it affect retention? I have no way to know. Especially as it's an on-going process. I could be wrong, but I suspect that the folks who most feel this way are so invested in the game that they'll cope just fine.
It's just tough to trust that other players to have your interests at heart when/if you can't provide informed feedback. And it's tough to trust that CCP will continue to trust feedback when/if it becomes less informed. Hopefully when accessing Sisi is standardized and streamlined, more voices will alleviate some of those concerns. But only time will tell.

December/Frostline release. Still has bugs in place from that nice little update to the game client. January Release. Not bothering to fix bugs left over from Frostline, we get a new batch of them, with the return of some not so golden oldie problems.
Now there's a February Release inbound, damn the torpedoes on the bugs in place still, got to get this out the door and live on the TQ game client.
Is this what 'slowing down from the fast track release cycle' and 'paying closer attention to customer feedback' along with better bug killing looks like? This isn't a slow down, breathe, and repair a game that's gathering fireants faster than a BBQ in a TX summer. This is balls to the wall, how fast can we shove things out the door and those whining about a breaking game can go get lost since they're not 'evolving' with the kewl kids klubs.. My question then becomes thus.
CCP. What have you done (to yourselves, the game client, the server, whatever it is) that trying to outrun=out release will give you an escape from something not being mentioned to your customer base? The number of Plex sales, Aurum discount packages, then outright selling the entire White Wolf IP screams you need cash, fast with the quickness.
Before the 'whiny gamers' (ahem) concerned customer base that keeps your company with the lights on in your glass tower leaves for less glitchy and bugged out skies.
If the last 4-5 months are counted as positive progress, I fear to know what failure looks like with an Icelandic horizon backdrop.

Why u have to delete the star field in the solar system map too ....
Was cool to look at while scanning. Just a black backround so ugly and boring. A checkbox on/off would have been a great middle ground. Never understood what the problem with the star field was.. was really subtle effect.. but apparently some people with really really bad sight had problems... they should wear glasses..
Otherwise good job on the map improvements. can now see the star lines and solar system names for a decent radius. The map is now usuable as a map again.

I'd try to think more cleverly about the 1st person view. You can literally point and shoot your ship in any direction you choose with it now. It's the only way I know of to 'fly' your ship. Think of it as manual control.
Now, how about it being the best way to place safe spot bookmarks that nobody could ever get to? Exactly where you want them on top of that.
I like the first person view. It needs more manual controls, like targeting circles (AKA, anything I have in my filters in the circle automatically gets targeted and I can shoot at it). This might allow optimal distance escapes from Warp Bubbles and being able to shoot at anything in your way. I'd also like to see better velocity controls when in 1st person view. I should have a nice 'set' dial that gives me better incremental controls over speed.
My only issues with the new cameras is that they are very buggy. I get all kinds of weird effects on my graphics card from them. It messed up my CQ views when I enabled them. They are still messed up even after being disabled.
The option to use the new camera views should be an easy toggle in the legacy camera controls and vice versa. I shouldn't need to go to the configurations menus.

There doesn't seem to be an active thread for feedback on the new map any more, so I'll put this here.
The removal of the background star field almost makes this maybe usable, but two related things are still preventing me from adopting it for day to day use: the frame rate drop when zoomed in enough that the focused solar system shows celestials but not much farther, which happens to be a useful zoom level for the star map (and completely useless for the solar system map) and the ability for celestials to get in the way of looking at other systems.
I get what you're going for, the star map / system map switch in the world map control panel was pretty awkward, but the transition is unhelpful as implemented. I have a simple idea which might fix this: go back to having two modes, but no switch. Just switch to solar system mode when you continue trying to zoom in at max star map zoom, and to star map when you zoom out from minimum solar system zoom. A specific zoom factor past the maximum/minimum is interpreted by the user as resistance to the transition and avoids most accidental mode switches while not requiring an explicit UI element. |

All I want is for the star field on the solar system map to return.
People were complaining about the star field in the star map ! NOT the solar system map. CCP please put solar system star field back in game !
Scanning was so much more enjoyable with the subtle star background.

Good riddance to it. |

No.... You just need glasses or to correctly calibrate your monitor or both. CCP should not be developing for those too lazy to help themselves.

My eyesight is perfect, thank you, and so is my monitor set-up.
And the fact that you were looking at the starry background while scanning just proves its distracting effect. |

This precisely. If the only choices are a) to have or b) not to have one, then (b) all the way.
Then again, a toggle would make everyone happy.

There are three small check boxes in general settings that CCP have thankfully inserted to allow players to turn off the three latest abominations the Dev's have come up with for graphics, Seems talking to members they have for the most part availed themselves of this facility and turned them off.
I will admit that a proportion of players have expressed positive views on the new additions but it would appear that this has masked the fact that the vast yet silent majority have simply not wanted to engage with these innovations and in my view rightly so, They are simply not fit for purpose and smack quite frankly like the overview changes of outsourced imports designed by people that have little or no insight into the player requirements in EVE.
These boil down to three specific specifications, Make it simple, Make it work and most telling of all.....HAVE A REASON TO DO IT.
