Hi,
Wanted to know what ppl think is a good Cladari ship to rat in 0.0. I've not done any PVP, so that isnt much of an issue for me at the moment. I can fly AF, BC and cruisers. The fact that i've no PVP exp makes me want to use a cheaper ship, so the loss isnt too bad. I cant use any t2 apart from some shield modules at the moment.
I was think a Carac, but dont reallly have a lot of ideas.
On a side note, with equal skills (say t2 launchers, ammo) are rockets or standard missiles better on a Hawk. Which has the better dmg potential? I know that t2 standards can gimp the cpu a bit, so i like the look of rockets, but havnt used them much.

Drake for the win!
7x heavy missile launcher 1x Tractor
3x active hardner II's 2x Large shield extender II's 1x Shield relay
2x BCU II's 2x Type D Powercore: Shield Relay
Great resists, great recharge. Running into a triple 1.55 conquistador spawn your shields won't drop below 50%. I have rigs on mine to increase DMG, ROF, and EM resist, but those are definately not necessary for ratting.
~~~~~~~~~ Caldari. It's so easy a Minmatar could do it. |
For ratting, Raven is win. Drake's a good second though.
However, bear in mind that PvP _is_ an issue as soon as you enter 0.0. Despite the fact that you are inexperienced, does not mean you won't find yourself in PvP. More the opposite in fact.
Rockets do more damage per second than missiles, and are easier to fit. But are also shorter range.
Raven Drake (have a good missile projection skill)
You shouldn't be worried about losing a Caldari ship while ratting in 0.0. "Why?" you ask. Well, you don't have to worry about optimal and traversal. That means that when you land in the belt, you can immediately align to a safe spot and travel at 3/4 speed, and begin killing the rats without worrying about whether you will hit the rats or not. If you see a hostile or neutral enter local, warp to your safespot - you should insta-warp. Then just bounce around between some premade safespots until the hostile/neutral leaves.
Pretty simple :D
It's great playing Caldari-online, isn't it?
In my experience Caldari assault frigates lack the DPS to rat in 0.0 effectively. You won't break a 900k BS tank in below 10 minutes for example.
What AF would you reccomend? Frigates are my fav. ship in the game really.
For doing serpentis, the following works fine:
hi 7 named heavys w/ scrouge missles Tractor or Salvager
mids 2x LSE II, 1 Inv, 1 therm hard, 1 kin hard, AB
lows 2x BCU, SPR, SPR/PDU/WCS (mix as needed)
Serpentis BS's like to spam defenders and like to run to keep you at 35km so the AB gets you into a 5-7k orbit. Unless your tanking triple BS spawns then your not going to have a problem tanking.
Rocket Hawk will put out the highest DPS for npc's. You'll have to get close so it will take some time and won't be as no-brainer as ratting in a Raven or Drake. ~~~~~~~~~ Caldari. It's so easy a Minmatar could do it. |
Harpy is ok I guess, maybe a blaster fit? I hear the Gallente AF:s are good at ratting, like the Enyo. Haven't tried them though.
I was thinking something like that, i want something thats more of a challenge and interesting that sit there and shoot.
Thanks for the suggestions, Mya try a blaster harpy, or maybe train up an Enyo. failing that I think the drake is a good idea.
Thanks very much.
I'd second the opinions on the DPS of the Hawk. I love mine, but the damage is not so hot - fantastic tank, though... However, I haven't played with rockets much, so that might help.
The Harpy works quite well - 150mm IIs with AM and AB/Rat specific hardner/booster in mids
The caracal is the ultimate low-budget choice. Heavy launchers, AB, sensor booster and a small tank with 2xdamage mods. Sit at 100km and rain death down. It works quite well against serps - just stay at a distance and warp away if anything big gets close.
for ratting in 0.0 i use a drake pasive tank...preety much the same setupo like pvp....only that i replace 2 shield power relay with 2 bcu t2 for more dmg...i`m in minmatar 0.0 that means rats....i can tank triple 1.8 bs`s and shield never get down under 70%.... So if u have money and u are in a safe 0.0..alliance space or something like that i`ll say go for raven..aka the ultimate money bringer..... so raven is first choice...drake secundary....the only diference is that ravens cost a lot....i got my drakes for free from corp...so i use drakes.... Wait to see 2 3 drakes gang pvp.....we can do 8/10 complex with 3 drakes with no problems..... BTW for gang pvp ...try fit an medium or large shield transfer mod in the open hi slot...that way one of u can tank the hell out while u do concentrated fire on target
Drake, especially if you are ratting the Guristas. The kinetic bonus is probably good vs Serpentis and Angels also.
Sadly the Caracal can't tank many of the 0.0 spawns easily.
Ratting anyting but sanshas a blaster harpy can kill any spawn, takes maybe 3-3 minutes to kill a gurista usurper 1.85 mil, but if you are chaining the spawns I dont see this as too much of a problem.
I fit Highs 4 x T2 neutron blasters, 1 T2 rocket Mids 1 T2 small SB, 1 x T2 1Mn AB 2x eutectic cap chargers lows 2 T2 Mag Field Stabs or 1 x T2 MFS and 1 x T2 DCU
For the spawns with 3 x 1 mil + BS and 2-3 escorts, you may need to kill of some of the escorts in order to be able to tank, i always leave one escort in order to chain.
But for a set up cost of less than 30 mil its pretty good. Although collecting loot is a bit of a struggle.
