Well I was wondering if there is any way I can download a software were I can film in-game footage ? Such as PvP or just random filming, this is so I can make a movie :)
If anyone has any info or links please post them, it would be much appreciated :)
Thanks for reading.

Use a nifty little program called FRAPS. The only thing that sucks about it is its optimal recording resolution is quite small. I forget the actual resolution, something like 1168x780 *pretty sure its the optimal for a 17" LCD*. Anyways, if you don't record in that resolution it ends up looking very very poor. ~~~~~~~~~ Caldari. So easy Minmatar can do it |

Yeah fraps is pretty standard but as its the free trial it only records, 30 second I think it is, and don't forget that the video's size is about 160mb for the 30sec clip so make sure you got enough room before serious filming. --------

That's why you have a buddy buy the full version on the work account and give you the license code. ~~~~~~~~~ Caldari. So easy Minmatar can do it |

There's a program called Game Cam (can't be arsed to find www atm) that works really well...it compresses the vid as it records so you can film for hours w/o it blobbing the entire HDD... ---

It's too bad 'cameraman' isn't a profession in EVE. I think it would be kinda cool having a cloaked ship film large fleet battles who could submit it to the 'Events' Department at CCP and have it on the News Center. Most fleet battles I've seen are terribly filmed and would need to get better like the Alliance tourneys (although some of those weren't too great either.)
Fraps would need to film at better resolutions tho. The videos I see in forums are terrible and it's hard to tell what's shooting at what.
If the GM's are hiring 'cameramen', I'd be the first applicant. So as long I can jump to different systems w/o the use of stargates. Jove technology ftw!

If you've got a dual core processor Fraps will record at much higher resolutions. People have been putting out 1600x900 movies recently

With Eve being a sandbox game I though of doing this. Start Eve Combat Photography Corp. Be a camera for hire and make movies for the client. When planning it out though I saw a few issues. Building trust with potntial clients would be very difficult. They would have to let you into their fleets and planning so you could do your job. With Eve's atl-spy issues it would be hard. In addition you couldn't make a good film without multiple cameras, meaning I would need other people to do the job right, more trust issues. You could be sure that at least one of the corp applicants would be a BoB spy. (sigh) The last issue is how not to get shot by the other side, cloaks are nice but to get really good films you'll need to get close in the action. How to get the side that didn't hire you to not shoot your camera.... not practical in the end.

Edited by: Donna Darko on 25/01/2007 23:30:02 CamStudio is free and does what (I think) FRAPS does. No pirating involved. Get the lossless codec to go with it and you're on.
A few tips I found out on my own or I've been told: - use a second drive as your temporary recording drive - set the recording thread priority at Time Critical to have smooth video (I had changed it to Normal and my video became choppy). - if CamStudio crashes (it does so on my machine on occasion), open Windows Explorer and browse to its temporary folder: there'll be two files ~tmp0001.avi and ~tmp0001.wav; copy those somewhere else and put them back together with VirtualDub (another free tool, no piracy involved).
*EDIT* Just remembered this: CamStudio films the full screen at full resolution (using the lossless codec) with apparently the same overhead as FRAPS in half-resolution, according to one my my friends. You can use Virtual Dub to neatly reduce the resolution making sweet videos. Here's a (crappy) test made by me (on a laptop, so the speed of the video kinda sucks because of its graphics card). I usually get 18-22 FPS without recording, between 15-19 when recording on a USB 2.0 external drive (in the same spot) with 30 FPS. Stories. |

It really ticks me off wehn peeps complain that software like fraps isnt free and think of ways of getting around it. FFS its a really really cheap price! Get your wallet out you cheapskates! ...and then they wonder why software companies go bust or put annoying restrictions in.

Ctrl + F in Eve should bring up a framerate display with a little graph in the top-left of the screen.
And yeah, pay for good software you tight gits ;)

Screw in game video recording.. I want to be able to record my sessions and replay them like most rts/fps games allow you to do.. That way as you go along the recording you can switch views and ships and pan aaround the scene.. All that is needed to do is record the data stream and provide an offline player for the file.. Should be a snap as the data rate is like 5kps afaik.. Imagine the usefullness of being able to see a battle from any perspective you choose rewinding fastforwarding and pausing as need be.. Plus think of the movie making potential.. Very handy utility that would be..
But until then.. Ya.. fraps is good..
