NOOBS.
Always check the reprocessing value of your booty from salvage before you sell it. MANY times the selling offers are less than the reprocessing value of the minerals you can sell.
DO THIS EVERY TIME.
Send me a msg if you need help.

To the OP. NOOB is not a term that should be used for genuine newbies. NOOB is an insult, and it refers to people that don't know what they should.
6 year old character fits a Hull Rep -> NOOB. 1 month old character fits a Hull Rep -> Newbie.
My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

I know a better example;
A new player dual tanking = newbie
A old guys, being in FW for 6 year, jumping blind into lowsec in a dual tanked Myrm = noob

To explain:
When you get loot, you should transport it to your station, and then right-click on each piece and "view market details."
Some things sell for millions (or hundreds of thousands), because they are rare and pretty good for fitting on ships, so you want to sell those individually for the highest price.
Most of the loot, though, won't be so wanted. Somebody will buy the junk, but they usually offer a price that is way less than what you would get if you reprocess the loot to minerals. Sometimes they offer 1 ISK. That's because THEY want to reprocess it and make a profit.
So, best practice for the loot:
- anything expensive, put it in a container to deal with during the weekend, when prices are best anyway. - anything cheap or that looks like junk, you're probably better off accumulating and reprocessing to minerals once a week.
It's very dangerous to try to transport that container full of millions in loot to Jita or Dodixie or other market stations, by yourself. If your cargo is worth millions, you'll be attacked in high-sec, because the loot from your ship wreck is worth it.
It's better to set up a courier contract, where someone else will transport that container to Jita for you; you ask them for "collateral" that is the value of the loot (millions), and you pay them 100-200k or so. Veterans have tanked up transport ships, and friends that can scout and protect them, so they'll move your courier cargo with almost no risk to themselves. |

The other thing you have to bear in mind is the time element. Sure, you can go through every item of junk you've collected, check how much it will sell for, check the value of the reprocessed minerals, decide how to squeeze the last ISK out of it. But if you spend 1/2 an hour getting an extra million, it may be more cost effective to sell the lot, or reprocess the lot, and get back out there to earn some more.
On the odd occasions I go ratting I generally sell the lot as fast as possible and then go back out to kill some more rats. I'm happy, the guy who got my junk cheap is happy, everything is sweetness and light.

You can intend to insult someone with your words but you can not force them to be offended. On the flipside of that you can intend to compliment someone and have them take offense at it.
Your choice to take offense at that word is simply that, your choice. |

Yeah I get it. NOOB is an insult term. I actually know this but this is the first time I've seen any response like this about it. It seems the MMO world is actually becoming more polite.
Nah. I am an adult (age 58) and this is just a small island of civility. Just review any of the other hundreds of responses on these forums to see that I am right.
Nonetheless, I will never use the term NOOB again anywhere. I hated being calling it ten+ years ago.

I review the higher priced items against the market and place sells at a price dependant upon a number of things.
For the lower priced items, I view the quick prices that come up when I hi-lite them and compare that against my reprocessing value. I reprocess most of the time.
For newbies, this is good advice. They can't afford to lose a few thousand when they are just starting out.

Actually no.
If someone insults someone, she can choose whether to take offense or not. Just as she can choose to be offended if someone doesn't insult her. But an insult is not simply a matter of personal perception. Insults are a social skill that can affect the attitudes and behavior of anyone listening to the exchange. In short, any change in attitude of an observer is inflicted on the person insulted. It is not an isolated incident.
So if two people were alone with no one else around then I'd accept your example. But in a public forum it is not a private matter, but a sharing of attitudes. Nothing bands people together tighter than a mutual hate or dislike. Insults are a social skill used to shift out like minded people.
That said, I wasn't assuming the OP was using NOOB as an insult. Just reminding that the term does have such a use.

Regardless of insults - its pretty standard that noob is a term for a player that makes basic mistakes like a new player but has been around long enough to know better. A new player is not a noob.
As far as reprocessing versus selling - long term (especially by level IV mission stage) do neither, blitz stuff and do not loot. |

You need to think about your audience. Everything is relative in the real world and in EVE. Google relativity if you need more on this.
THis is the new citizen forum and many that read this looking for help will not be at your level where they can just ignore the value of their loot. You have forgotten what it is like to be poor and needing every ISK.
I am not new. I am just cheap and I play solo. I check most of my loot and I usually salvage every circumstance I fly into.

You use to be able to do this based on name. However since they redid many of the modules and now the modules are pretty much all the same except for slight changes in power requirements. i just repo everything and turn it into other stuff.
I think they should made it so meta stayed the same but you needed more advanced skills to use more advanced metas. That would of been better then making a bunch of the same item with different names and a tiny power or cpu variation. |

Truth be told, I usually don't care about the value of loot unless its estimated value is over 1M isk. If it is less than 1M, then I tend to just sell it immediately at the highest Bid price.
I do keep all of the ore and salvage though. I use this alt to turn it into rigs, which have a nice profit margin.
Also, really we are going to argue and fight about the difference between noob and newbie? My main has been around since 2009 and I am definitely still a noob...

You can go into a car dealership and a salesman can sell you a car. There are skills that the salesman can hone to help increase his numbers or increase his chances of selling you a car. However you still need to buy the car. You can choose to buy the car or not regardless of how good or poor of a salesman he is.
Just because there is a chance or even a likelihood of someone feeling insulted at your choice of words does not relieve the person on the receiving end of their free will and ability to have whatever experience that they choose in response to your choice of words.
I would agree with the sentiment that being civil and treating your fellow man with dignity and respect is a good idea and I'd like to see it more often. However I draw the line when people start blaming others for their own emotions. |

He was thinking of the new player.
I do not want to put words into Hasikan's mouth but it is commonly agreed by most players that have experimented both ways that it is better isk per hour to speed run missions and ignore loot than to take the time to loot.
I loot my missions and anoms when I run them but not because it it profitable. I would make more isk if I ignored the loot but I enjoy looting and making stuff from the melted loot. Since this is a game I do what is fun. However that does not change the fact that if the OP is looking for the most profitable thing to do with his loot then that would be to ingnore it all with the exception of faction spawns and deadspace drops from escalations. |

A lot of good input here, and a funny noob side convo, thanks for that.
In my mind, it really wasn't that complicated. When I was outta-the-box new, each piece of loot taught me something about EvE. As a result, I kept a lot of so called "junk." If I didn't need it around the time I had a better understanding of it, then being rid of it would be the easier part anyway. I did sell a few things I came across simply for being too rich for my blood, but that mistake takes us off topic.
If you're really bothered by this one enough, you've probably got a little industrialist in you too. If you've stumbled across this while speed reading stuff, you might just sell of your unwanted crap and get back in the fight. For purposes of industry, I got mine from the materials and let the isk come in other ways like bounties and side jobs (Yes, I took the long road, but it was not one of self discovery) at least, while I was getting started.
And for miners, do I reprocess? Sure, if you're gonna use it. The point in one's career when this question comes up...let me just say precision market play might come a little later. Ore, to say a ganker that pulled it from a wreck, is gonna be worth more as ore. If you seek industrial uses, get yourself a few blueprints, research them, and...important...try not to loose isk on using them; that's just part of the learning process, but also getting into another topic. |

I see your point but when you are starting out, every isk counts so the time it takes to pick up the loot is worth it when you can get a 3 or 4 million ISK item. I still loot 80% of the time and from my experience 1 out of 15 times a multi-million ISK item comes up.
Your most important statement was - I do what is fun. |

While there is better isk/hour ignoring the loot. The payout is delayed significantly using the LP store. A very new player will need startup capital and the delay will normally not be acceptable. Especially as the new player will probably quickly be progressing to higher level missions and needs to buy skill books as well as equipment.
So brand new player. Loot everything. Established new player. Better isk/hr blitzing missions.

That's the exact opposite of what CCP is doing with their module tiercide and precisely what they don't want. The different variations give you choices to improve your fit in various ways. Sometimes that choice is "use less powergrid on this so I can cram on more tank/dps, at some cost". With your proposed system there would be no point in having different metas. Everyone would just wait until they had max skills to fit the "best gear" like they do in other MMOs. That's actively harmful for new players because it increases the skillpoint barrier, and it's bad for older players because it reduces decision-making and homogenizes ship fittings.
Also of note, CPU and powergrid are NOT the only differences between meta variations. And if you really think those stats make no difference, you clearly have never actually fit your own ship.
I'm glad we have you around to advocate for null-sec life because this forum is often small-gang biased and different play styles work for different people. But some of the holes in your F1-education are showing in your posts and making you look quite silly...
