Edited by: Zubenelgenubi on 07/12/2003 22:15:41 ...are you sure you have 30,000 active accounts? Or did someone at account management mis-count?
@ 10pm GMT most active users online was 5592 before numbers began to drop - thats 2 people short of the 3 month record and over 700 short of the all-time record. So where are the other 24,000 active account holders? - all waiting for Tech II?
Good effort by the community though

1) Inactive players 2) Players waiting for tech II 3) Players in the wrong timezone 4) Players who don't give a f**k about records 5) Players who wasn't at home/couldn't log in
Want more reasons?

Yeah... I guess you're right - that should come to about 24,000 altogether

Edited by: Mir0s on 07/12/2003 22:42:54 Read this if you can.. :)
It's a press release from CCP which i think you can see in news section on this page. But it adds that they have sold 50k boxes of Eve and they got 30k subscribers. And it's dated 2 days ago.

Just to add to Mir0s's link here is a rough translation:
CCP just bought back its publishing contract from SSI, they were rather disappointed about SSI and their publishing and SSI was the reason they didn't offer accounts online on their website.
They go on to say that 145.000 units where produced and so far around 50.000 have been sold and they have about 30.000 subscriptions. Which was below their expectations but sale has been steady and they have high hopes for the Christmas sale.
One interesting note for ppl there is that CCP hf. has 30 employees and their Customer support is handled by Icelandic National Telecom (LandsÝminn). The CS division consists of also 30 ppl.
hmmm I might start charging ISK for translation services, just have to convince CCP that press releases are best in Icelandic

FYI: During a typical day, about half the player base logs in, i.e. about 15,000 players, but this half is not the same group everyday, so over a week, most of the 30k subscriber base actually logs in. This player base then spreads throughout the 23 hours of uptime, with a marked peak around 22 GMT. This pattern is pretty stable as such.

Edited by: Zubenelgenubi on 07/12/2003 23:02:46 Well, I really do hope they have 30000 accounts. But somehow I find it hard to believe there are over 20,000 players out there who pay monthly fee for a game they dont/rarely play
EDIT: Thanks Chandra... This gives me for one a little more encouragement about the future of this game

Even with this, i say alot of those logging in during the day are doing so to train skills, and are awaiting the new content, if it delivers then people will be happy, if it doesnt, then people will logoff permanently.
Christmas and early new year will be an interetsing time for eve.

I'm gald to hear this news. I think a lot of people are worried EVE's playerbase is in decline and today's events just confirmed it somewhat. But if there are around 15,000 different accounts logging in throughout a typical day then that means EVE is in a lot stronger condition than we thought it was.
The fact that people just log in to switch skills doesn't really matter as long as they're paying thier $12/month. Wether they keep paying it in the long-term is another matter though. I just hope there's enough new players comming in to keep this game going for a long time to come.

Quote: Tomorrow, December 7th, following an idea originally suggested by Duracell on our forums, Eve players are planning an all-day event they have dubbed "The Big Log-On" in an effort to take the number of simultaneous users to a record-breaking 10,000.
Eve Radio will be doing a 24-hour live simulcast (see http://www.eve-radio.com for details) featuring give-aways, guest DJ TomB of the Eve dev team, and other surprises.
Log in and be a part of gaming history!
i think the fact that they didn't specify the time at all, just the date, may have contributed. Really...

You should also keep in mind that for some people the little fee that they are paying for this game is nothing!!!! I meant think about it...what can you buy for that money per month It's only a game, and if you have nothing else to do then play...otherwise life is stiff going on around you
This game will break records sometime, but I don't think there is any point trying to plan it. |

Well there were more problems. It was only talked about in eve news one day before. It should have been mentioned a week before. Several times. I do read the forums a lot but still missed this info. I mixed it up with the BIG deal and didn't read the threads. And also 4 hours is way to long. 20min would have beeen much better /Phoibos

Sorry but I don't belive that. This game is far too addictive for someone to play it once a week. You don't have 30k people. JMO!!! ______

LOL miso you beat me to it
How the fuggin hell do players know better than the bloody developers???
surely THEY know better than us how many subscriptions they have for crying out loud. I mean c'mon, just think about it. What would make more sense then the 3 most hated alliances teaming up to lay waste to the people they all hate anyways? CA is already allied with PA, and TPS lies between the two alliances. Natural allies to be sure. But it's not just that, all but PA (and even some of them) have adopted a "stfu and die, or come and fight us, we don't give a **** what you think or do" philosophy, as well as a PvP Kill everyone not friend kind of mentality. These are the people in eve that kill or convert, the ones dedicated to the death of others, because history, circumstance, and the rest of eve have driven then to do so (except TPS, who are just cool ass pirates ). |

But my good Lord, you are discounting the fact that surely there is a conspiracy here in the works.
You do know that Elvis lives, don't you? I mean just rearrange the letters e, l, v, i and s and you have "lives"! Only a fool would believe The King dead after such proof! Or question the alert people who can spot conspiracies such as these two and 1120232,2 others.

Edited by: Loki Prime on 08/12/2003 15:24:57 Why is it so hard for people to beleive that there is 30k subscriptions. There are people posting saying this is rubbish. Why, because they arnt all on at the same time ?. That would be ludicrous given the time zone difference betwen players. I have 2 accounts and while i use one as a hauler this is rarley logged on if im doing something other than mining. I imagine this holds true for alot of people. There are now 2 others in my corp of 5 with multiple accounts and its rare I see both their accounts logged on together. I think there are probably people out there who subscribe and really love this game but dont nessacerily have the time to play that much and hence dont contribute to server numbers much.
On a second note the price of subscription for this game is nothing. I understand for some its a big deal, but for alot it isnt. Hell I waste more money than this each week when my GF cant be arsed to cook and we go to Mcdonalds.
EVE is a unique experience and not just another clone like most of the others. For this reason it will grow stronger and alot of those who left will come back.
All good things in life are worth waiting for and EVE will be one of them.
SO STOP SAYING ITS GOING TO DIE AND PLAY THE GAME.

30k or 15K even less or more.
For who is it important ? What we expect all is that EVE evolve to the good way.
What really need CCP it's good marketing effort :). Really taking care of what customers want and are interested in game.
For the moment who really care playing in same time w/ 29999players ???? hmm ? :)
I think, first it's to resolve pbs concerning the simple fact that i think a lot of new players get trouble launching the game cause of weird bugs... (clock adjustment, sound card, u should play in 32bits color else u can't read anything in 16bits mode - i felt concerned - :), etc... ) else it's giving a very bad 1st impression of the game ...
-> Marketing Effort !!! 3 chars is not enough, i prefered at least 6 :)
More quests w/ NPC, more 'none buyable' lootable special items from special Npcs ... well anyway all this will come w/ patches...
well, it should more developped, but the idea is here.
Stop talking in the cosmic wind, go ahead. :) ---------------------------------- Unity, Power and Knowledge.

Well, people have been saying the game will die since beta, it hasn't died yet and it won't die in the future either. But people will still claim it's about to die any day now, and they still won't have anything except their own and possably a few friends opinions to back it up with.

Exactly. This game will not die because it is unique. While ever this game is one of a kind it will keep going and we will keep loving it.

Make a few comparisons before jumping to conclusions. Everquest claims over 500,000 subs, at peak time they run 42 shards (i think) with a capacity of 2500 - 3500 people on each. With say an average user number of each of 2000 people that makes 84,000 players online. As a percentage of users online thats pretty compariable to eve having 30k subs with 5000 online.
As for subs numbers dropping it happens with all MMOGS not just EVE. As new expansions are added or they developers or publishers do more promotion these increase again.
Im perfectly happy with EVE and have faith in the massive array of un-used promotional tools that CCP have left to exploit. This makes me believe them when they say they wanted a low key release.
This game we play is in its beginnings. Be glad you are on board at the start for there is truly greatness to come.

The players are fleeing, the unafraid are burning till they're left as ashes and EVE will fail and die an excruciatingly painful death, and we shall all fry with it! Hear me, Hear me, The End is Near! Deamons already are among us Eating away our Minds and Devouring our very Souls! The day of Doom is upon us! The Lands will break apart, Volcanos will Erupt, the Seas will boil and our crops will turn to Locust that shall eat our Flesh to the bones. The day of Doom is upon us! Civilization will falter, Armageddon is calling, The sky is falling, there is nowhere to hide. We're all gonna DIEEEE...
-- I won't not promise to avoid refraining from harming you! .... What? |
