I'd like to suggest a framework for missions, based on contracts and built so that it is primarily player-driven, rather than reliant on NPC's.
We've already got something like this with contracts, but you can't contract someone to kill another player, or to organize a fleet op and attack a starbase. Or to pay people to mine in a particular belt in a particular system.
The basic gist: Players dictate an objective, offer a reward for completion of that objective, and other players fulfill that task for the reward. |

In every single game I've ever played that had player created missions, you ended up with three types of mission. 49% were extremely difficult, but gave a pittance for reward. 49% were laughably easy, but could make you rich after just a couple of them. 2% were balanced.
So, no. I don't support this idea.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.
Hello, Mr Carebear. Would you like some cheese with that whine?

Can you give specific examples?
I've actually never seen an MMO with player-driven 'quests' like this before. It'd be great to get some insight in how it worked out for them. |

When I place a station buy order for freighter load of Veldspar in Amamake, that already is a player driven mission open for other players to participate. This particular example is a very challenging mission, though.

So here is an alternative interpretation of your idea. I want to be able to set up ambushes to pad my kill board, how do I accomplish this without those involved knowing what they are getting into. Oh I know we will disguise them as mission given out by players that way they will not suspect that they are actually being drawn into an ambush to pad my kill board.
That is not what I want you might say. And my response is you have not thought about your idea and how all the lovely devious and twisted minds that play this game would use it, and for that alone your idea would get a -1.
For the rest of the reasons why not see Iain Cariaba's post above.

I actually had well considered it.
I don't think it's an issue - you can already do it with the contract system, and people have and will continue to do so. That's just how it all works; it comes with the territory.
I don't think it detracts from this idea at all. Do you?

I agree that it is, and is in fact something I'd like to see more of. |
