I'd love to be able to find connections between star systems. Wormholes should provide a significant change of travels, providing hidden routes to those that found them, but ofcourse they need to have disadvantages aswell to keep it all balanced.
My idea is as follows: 1. A wormhole can be found from both ends by exploration.
2. Wormholes can have any distance, basically making it possible to reach any System in Eve in just 1 jump (except jove-space atm).
3. Wormholes are unstable - the greater the distance they cover, the more likely it is for the wormhole to destabilize.
4. Each jump destabilizes the Wormhole further, the bigger the mass of the jumping ship the bigger the destabilization. This has 2 effects: 4.a) The wormhole might cease to exist. This effect should be random and in no way predictable, just that its quite unlikely to loose it to a frigate and very likely to close it with a freighter. 4.b) A destabilized wormhole cant be used for a certain period of time. While a Frigate might lock the wormhole for a few seconds, a battleship should lock down the wormhole for at least 10 minutes, thus making it an option for small gangs but not for fleet movement.

I read your proposal, but there are some major differences in our proposals. Your link is about a way to jovian space, bringing us to new content, via black holes/wormholes. I'm proposing wormholes that link existing systems, making travel-planning and travelling itself much more interesting. Therefore the wormholes should be semi-permanent....but unreliable. There shouldnt be any reward in the exploration site other than the new travel possibility itself.
I know that those 2 proposals are linked by method, but I think the goal of the proposal is too different to discuss in the same thread.

not sure tbh, since blackholes / wormholes don't necessarily need to link to jove space. I just used Jovian space as a placeholder of sorts. The Dev's could start out small (going from system -> system, region -> region), and as a means of developing new content that will be within the "storyline" and very easy to integrate into the game, they can use these blackholes.

Edited by: Kan Gaxx on 27/01/2007 19:15:57 Well, I interprated your post more as a link to new content while I'm concentrating on changing travel itself (edited the first post a bit to emphasize that). It may be possible to link them tho, because if you found one end of a wormhole you dont know where its going to end....may be jove space, some deadspace, or a semi-stable wormhole through the known universe....you dont know till you try, and once you do you better hope a return-wormhole is still there.

I would think, to keep things balanced and interesting, wormholes would eventually collapse. Either by themselves, or through destabilization. I don't think it should necessarily be totally chance based. You should be able to have a slightly accurate prediction as to how much you can take through the wormhole. A collapsed wormhole simply ceases to exist. Its possible that a new one will appear right in its place, but unlikely. You would then have to go and explore out a new wormhole.
