It's going to be strange flying alongside you guys. Still, you don't need to prove to me that you know your stuff, and in these times having good pilots at your side is a real bonus.... now go kick some ass so we can get back to our usual wargames

It is a rather delicious irony, isn't it? 
Personally, I fail to see how the "Northern NAP train" as it seems to be known nowadays is in any way either a Bad Thing OR significantly different to the situation in the south. I mean, on the one had we have a north where people (mostly) live peacefully alongside their neighbours and exploit the resources of their chosen region... and on the other we have a south-west where everyone (mostly) lives peacefully under the dominion of BoB and exploit the resources of their chosen reason.
Where's the difference, exactly? I'm having trouble seeing it. Is it only dropped by a rare Sansha officer spawn or something?

Indeed. To be honest I'll be a bit disappointed if they DON'T try to exploit the situation afterwards when the standings haven't been set correctly for a short period of time.
It just wouldn't be the same if they didn't ^_^
