Hi all,
So I found a decent route, bought and sold for a profit until the prices moved dramatically enough to kill further profit.
It seems that each sell order can be bought from twice before the price goes significantly up and the same for selling to a buyer (i.e. two times only)
Now that the prices are borked, how long will it take until they reset to the previous good price?

Don't know about buying, but selling price comes back after DT for me.

Hmmm...
I haven't seen that at all and it has been over 48 hours. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. :)

The prices will slowly return to normal. You will just have to wait. But if anyone else decides to buy it, the price will go back up.

If your item hasn't come back up after 2 DTs. The only thing I can think of is that someone else is selling too, or items have different time periods to recoup.

I'm pretty certain that I am here alone. I watched this trade for about a week before jumping into it. And as soon as I jumped in the price tanked and has not come back up yet. So I guess it has a longer recoup cycle.

Some npc trade goods indeed have a longer recoup as you call it, however, I do believe there should be at least a price change visible after DT although it might be small.
Are you sure you are checking prices IMMEDIATELY after DT? Cause all the popular trade goods will be bought within 1 hour after DT (some even faster then that, almost 10 minutes for Robotics), so if you check after that the prices will indeed have risen again.
It's a stupid system for anyone not able to be online immediately after DT, that's why I gave up on it (even though I'm European, so DT is much better for me then Australians/Asians or Americans).

I wasn't checking right after DT. But I watched this good for about a week before buying and it always stayed the same. It only changed after I jumped in on it.
Also, thanks for the after DT tip. I didn't know about that. :)

Market changes are sometimes not documented, however when I last looked:
NPC price changes sometimes take place at Downtime, but not always. They move back towards their default value the same way your ship's Capacitor recharges - fast at first, slowly later. Sometimes they 'stick' and don't move at all for a while. This may be due to market activity, but I suspect not. These graphs show what happens if stockpiles of items are left to Sell to small NPC Buy Orders:

maybe a dumb question, but why can't you set up buy orders at your desired purchase price at the place in question ? |

I certainly could. For this deal, I was looking to move goods fast by using available buy/sell orders.

If you're the only trader involved, the prices should return to optimal in 3-6 days.

NPC good market prices have NOT been resetting after down time for MONTHs. So those that are complaining later in the thread about how its unfair for those who can log in right after downtime, do not worry because they changed it specifically to address that.
It happened over the summer but I can't find the link :\
Someone else can perhaps?

As stated previously, the npc order do not reset automatically after DT and there is indeed variation in them. It was made in order to stop people farming npc order just after DT. So now the best course of action is to put buy and sell order at the appropriate time and wait for the system to slowly fill your order. Slow but effective.

mmm, interesting, I was doing npc trading in the second half of november after I left the trial account status and always saw trade good prices change just after downtime. There were a couple of exceptions here and there, where prices changed at different times or prices didn't change just after DT, but that wasn't more then 10% of all the cases, all the other times it was always after DT. That was at least what I saw for the goods I was trading in. Well there was 1 good in particular I was always trading in, I did see that other goods prices didn't change every day after DT (when I occasionally traded something else), but when they finally did change, it almost always was after DT (I can only remember 1 instance that the price was changed overnight, I'm sure it happens, but not that often).
Maybe my experience isn't a good example because I only watched 2 NPC goods most of the time.
I was also told that buy/sell orders didn't work on NPC trade goods, I guess then that's changed as well.
