It's one thing to beat someone using ships, drones, and strategy. It's another thing entirely to beast someone because they are lagged out.
I welcome the change to the code in order to reduce the drone lag so that the person can attack the pirates back FARILY.
Now I and many people are not asking to have free roam of the game and make it about impossible for a pirate to attack you. All we want is the ability to defend ourselfs equally.
A pirate that camps a gate and uses drone lag is not playing farily.
If a pirate that camps a gate beats me outright I have no issues with that, but don't think people are going to not get upset when you beat them over game mechanics.

Quote: Simply just make an example scenario we tested with players on Chaos:
* 10 ship (all diffirent ship types) * Each ship filled with sensor boosters for fastest targeting * Each ship with 10 drones, all using diff. drone types
(Load is 10 diff. ship models, 100 drones, 10 diff. drone types)
- I warp in, they are suposed to target me asap and let the 100 drones attack me
= Took me 5 seconds to load the entire scenario so I had 5 seconds to think before I could take an action of attacking back or trying to run for it with the 10 second invulnerable timer
Computer specs I used: 1,4 ghz pentium intel geforce 5200 fx 128 mb mem
Before I tried this I could not be in this scenario because of constant client lag freeze up to 5 seconds.
It was even no problem to play while the whole drone fleet was attacking me.
Patch is here for testing on Chaos
If it works we are halfway home for me..

TOMB:
Ahh something I noticed that I think needs addressing about drone targeting. If a BS takes a long time to target a frigate because of the new scan resolution calculations for locking onto targets, should not a BS take even a LONGER time to lock onto drones since they are obviously smaller in size and scan radius than frigates!?!?!?!
Seems atm the drones can be targeted by a BS faster than a BS targeting another BS. Could you please look into this and see what went wrong?
Thanks in advance

Hmm, last time I tried locking a drone on chaos, it took about 35 seconds.

Takes me 10 to 14 seconds depending on which type, hvy or scout. I had no sensor boosting device installed.

ROFL!
Pirates could fight anti-pirats all day long if they only stayed online instead of logging of!
PvP is there for those who want to, but the sorry looking bunch of pirates in EVE only want to fight players who can't fight back.

Tomb. Are mining drones optimized too? They make a mess in bigger mining operations. Containers also slow down the graphics card a lot.

Edited by: l1n3n01z on 11/12/2003 06:08:25 The mining drones have not been optimized yet.
However patch 1339 or 1340 will have highly optimized mines (as in explosive thingies) and the same patch or the next patch after that should have optimized mining drones.
I'm looking into the cargo container lag. TomB says there's lag there but I don't ever get any. Might be something HW dependant.

I think the container has to do with the graphic card actually. I have a gf4 4200 and they are not very fast at drawing lines, compared to say ATI Nvidia cards. (ATI is much faster in 3dsmax with lines for example). I think it would be faster if you had icons instead of lines as you seem to do now.
But mainly you guys could solve this by making the npc drop less containers. I just shot 300 pirates and had a blizzard of containers. It's NOT fun to spend 2 hours looking in them. Would be much more fun if they drop a container once in a while with something fairly good in it. This would not kill the market either.

Argh, please fix this before the patch hits TQ. Real jump-in exploiters (IMHO) use mining drones to cause lag..

One way to solve this problem is to add drones/container toggle buttons down to the left. If you click it you won't simply see the containers. Usually you don't need to see them or target them when you are hunting npc pirates. Drones may be a little more difficult since it may be dangerous if you forget to turn it on in battle, perhaps the button could flash if there are drones close. This would work great for containers at least. /Phoibos DreamScape

Hey guess what, some Eve players aren't native English speakers!! Who knew!!
Current state of chaos is awesome btw, seems like it will be great for pvp.

Considering how laggy the Chaos server is, how on earth are we to test lag?
It's like walking into a furnace and being asked if a particular piece of coal is warmer than the others.

Hmm I would like to test my FPS during all that drones stuff but I have no FPS Meter. Is there any built-in in EVE?? if yes - how can I activate it? If no - how can I test my actual FPS...
