Its true!!
Just the other day an evil pirate was sat on my doorstep when left my house. He tripped me up and stole my wallet.
As he ran off he shouted that he was camping my doorstep because working for money was too boring, and that mugging people in the streets meant he had to move around and often they were just too fast for him!!!
Couldnt believe it, im just hoping this doesnt escalate, im a bit scared of it all, especially since he had flown from America!!!
When am i getting that ú5 back Tank CEO?

Yeah its utterly mind boggling to beleive someone would resort to these kind of things OOG.
You would not beleive the trouble CA have but I dont pretend to know the full extent.
I happen to know one of the PIE guys in RL and whilst our corps are at war and we slander each other on the forums (usually in good faith), I can happily laugh and joke about with him in RL.
Its a GAME for christs sake people.
When are the Koreans coming to EVE ?? Ive heard they get a bit happy with these kinda games ??
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

I have my own web server with static IP, you just would not believe the amount of attempted hacks/port probes I have in a day. Most peeps with dial up access should be safe as your IP will change each time you log on. Those of you who run TS servers or ICQ servers need to take precautions, there are lots of apps out that can protect the services you provide. ISP's also take a dim view on attacks seek thier help in tracking the perps.
This is just a game RL threats and attacks suck.
If you cant understand this simple fact, then get some professional help. Noo sig comming SOONÖ =================================================== What are we going to do about all this ignorance and apathy?.... I don't know and I don't care! |

Agreed. The member who ripped us off claimed to have used a HD killer to ruin the hard drive of a prior associate. Then he tried to use a Trojan Horse to get the login data for someone else to try to clean out his account. Be careful out there... it's really sad.

Quote: I'm not so sure about the "you're not playing with a bunch of mental cases" statement. Consider a former member of ours who left nearly a year ago. He never seemed to have a problem with anything until one day he just changed and went off. He has become involved in a new situation against our corp and myself. You can tell in his posts that he harbors enormous hatred towards me. Now for someone of considerable age to have those kind of intense emotions against a person for over a year over a simple game seems to me is mentally unstable and has no real grip on reality.
I can't think of anyone that has irritated me so badly in a game that I hold a grudge past current envolvments with them. It is after all just a game. Hell, I don't hold grudges against people for RL wrongdoings realizing human shortcomings and mistakes of youth, etc etc.
Anyway, I do think that what we're seeing with these "whacko incidents" are people that are on the edge of sanity and whether it is a game, a movie or whatever, it's just the wrong thing at the wrong time for that particular person.
Of course I do wonder why now? Why the increasing frequency of such incidents in recent times? Is it the increasing stress of modern life? Probably that coupled with other factors.
So you think I went whacko by doing a little RP? Okay yeah it sometimes spills over a little bit, but good god, I do not harbor any feelings of harm to you or your family. Duke, this is a game, and what I say on the Galatic summit and the corporations forums are mostly RP (at least 99%).
After reading this, I see that you have mis-interpreted alot what has gone on, and truthfully up until now I thought you had some idea of it.
Duke I will state here and now, that if you think and or thought I was going mental on you, then I am sorry for doing so. I will keep it in serious check in the future.
And before you really start to think that I was the one who dosed or however you spell it, your teamspeak server I will simply state this right now. I dont have the computer skills to do it, I dont even know how to wipe my hard drive let alone do anything else to someones else's computer for gods sake. Remember the trouble I had even trying to get on Teamspeak while I was in Omega? It still happens in Evolution, even today. I didnt pick up a book and learn computers 101 and 102. Basically what I am saying is that I will put 100 to 1 odds that my 5 year old daughter probably has more computer skills than what I have. (Hence me buying a Dell with a 3 year warranty)
Now, do I want to see Omega Corp get crushed under Evolution, you bet your sweet ***. Its a game, we like to fight, we feel like we do it rather well, and to be honest I think it would be a damned good fight.
However we do have our pride, and we would rather be beaten fairly, and we feel the same way about beating our foes, what in gods name is the use of winning if you have to friggin cheat to do it.
Anyhow, as stated, we will still be coming for you (OC), but as I said we have our pride and we will win or loose fairly, and without tampering any of our foes equipment.
We'll be seeing you soon.
Oh by the way there is sometimes I do go mental, its when my daughter wants me to sit down and watch that horribly evil purple dinosaur named "Barney" with her. But thankfully it only lasts an half an hour, and I think I can handle that without proffesional help, sooner or later she will out grow it.
At least I hope....

Quote: I know of one CA member who lives only 7 miles away from me but I doubt he'd resort to beating me up RL.
A girly corp. mate lives about 10 miles away and I would hope she'd come me beat me
with your luck they'll end up together instead
Media's best efforts aside, there's no real need to be afraid of the Big Bad Scriptkiddies. Virii and suchlike do so much 'damage' largely because 1) the nature and original intent of the internet, and 2) the majority of the people in charge of important things are idiots, plain and simple.
Some basic precautions will eliminate 75% of any worries you might have. The other 25 is dealt with by NOT panicking, NOT being intimidated by neoluddites who act like There's Nothing We Can Do. If you're totally lost, get help, speak to your own ISPs abuse department, repeatedly if you have to until you find someone who gives a (*E?!!.
Even in the most jaded, lackwit, lethargic organizations, the Abuse team is 99.999996% of the time made up of people who ARE the Abuse team precisely because they enjoy stomping on the types of idiots who perpetrate this crap. Trust me.
You are in a maze of twisty little asteroids, all alike. |

Quote: EVE is positively paradise when compared to a game I used to play called PLANETARION.
There DOS attacks and hacking were almost a fact of daily life - and yes everyone complained about it - but it still went on.
I can remember that almost every time a major alliance war broke out the next day people would be on the forums complaining that their private IRC servers had been DOSed.
The game itself was put down for a few days as a result of the same thing.
As a result there was a completely paranoid atmosphere in the game and everyone was treated with excessive suspicion until they had spent a long time in the game.
It happened once as far as I can remember and the entire community flamed the alliances who did it.
Edit: Besides, it was not meant as a retaliation for something that happened ingame, it was a "tactical" move to try and disrupt the enemy's ability to coordinate their defences during an attack.
Hardin: can you tell I was a Legionaire? ;)
