Cara. Even with 21' that happens
Specially when you are active in many many channels + corp recruiter + alliance recruiter + alliance high command.
In my old days in 0.0 I started refering to EVE as a text based game as all I had on screen most of the days were chat windows and evemails.
Thank god, those times have passed.

it's sad that recently, some of the newbro's attitutde are disappointing like the op here. they come in here "suggesting" changes to the game as if they played it a thousand years and an expert already when the reality is they don't even know how to align.

Some people do that.
Unfortunately, it tends to lead to step 2:

Hopefully the OP keeps playing despite the complete disagreement of this thread. |

I personally can't stand the bezel separation. I wish at least one monitor manufacturer would release something like modular panels so we could just put them end to end or something.
Or release double-wide monitors. Gamers and spreadsheet lovers among others would like that. |

I work in a highly regulated environment. We have a lot of agencies and internal oversight on everything we do. To that end one of the wall papers I like to rotate across my desktop goes something like this:
"I have know idea what you're doing, but my auditing manual says you're doing it wrong."

The pilot model created at the start has no real role in game play, or player to player interaction. Simply adding station lobby prehaps some with a lounge, would be a great addition.
If you even had a clue with regards to the history and context surrounding what you are suggesting here I think that you would not be bringing it up. Suffice it to say that what you suggest here is an extremely touchy subject. In general just judging by your comments I am going to say that Eve is not a game for you. Also judging by your post I'm going to guess that you have already figured that out for yourself. Eve is very much different from other games. Most of us are here because of that and not in spite of it. From time to time we get players coming in here saying how Eve could be so much better if it were just more like every other game out there that are all clones of each other. I find the difference of Eve refreshing and what keeps me coming back. There are plenty of games out there designed around the playstyle that you suggest here, probably most other games actually. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post. I did not mean to re-open a fiercely debated topic when I mentioned opening a pilot lounge. I'd like to avoid further discussion of that in this thread because it's tangential anyway.
I like Eve Online. It's an awesome game. I know there is a loyal and dedicated base of players and that the game is among the longest online games running, and created by a quality company that players respect. I decided to play Eve because of that respect and clear commitment to continuity.
I understand that Eve is not like other games, and "I'm not like the other boys". I am definitely not saying that eve should be a clone of any other game! I am really not sure where you got that from in my post. Probably the user experience best practices bit.

The UI has been undergoing refinement over a decade. Some of the problems you mention aren't even problems, they are advantages.
So you have told me it's evolved. Well that does seem to continue. I had not compared the old map with the beta till today. The Beta map is Brilliant! I am beginning to understand that it's changing gradually and in the right direction! I don't want to make you mad. I like EVE and I don't have any power to change it so there is no reason to be mad at me. :)
Iria Ahrens wrote: Anyway, there is a suggestion function. File your suggestion, with actual suggestions. You think you can design a more beautiful and logical layout then design a better layout and submit it as a suggestion.
I agree this would be better done by mocking things up, rather than try to put it into words but that would mean putting in more time than I currently have. Constructive criticism is within the user agreement of the forum. My participation is not out of place but i think the post was moved to another spot.
Iria Ahrens wrote: You can change the tab order. So maybe a lot of your problem is you're too busy criticizing the interface and not spending enough time learning it.
Are you kidding me? Definitely play eve more ! I type fast! this took very little time to write... maybe I should have thought about it longer. I criticize things I love. Apparently you prefer to shower them with kisses. That is fine with me. I like using my imagination and thinking about how things I like could be even better.
As for the tabs ..If you know how to move tabs back and forth one move at a time in the order this would help me greatly.
If you go to any web browser you will find that if you drag a tab to the right it will move over past the tab to it's right. Let go and it stays there. If you do this in a tabbed window of stacked data/tool windows in Eve what happens is that the window breaks out of the stack. You can use it independently or place it at the end after the last tab. If you wanted it one tab to the left of where it was you have some serious work on your hands! Essentially whenever you want to reorder the tabs you have to remove and re-add each tab in the order you want them.
Iria Ahrens wrote: Most of your suggestions are awful. The last thing I need is a separate window of space that could accidentally be minimized in the middle of combat.
Panes are usually defined and remain open all the time until the entire pane view is closed. A good example of a pane is the space view with the new Beta Map docked. If you interact with the PIN button in the title bar if the beta map you will get a drop down menu that lets you dock that map. Choose to dock it on the right. Now you have a pane for SPACE and a docked window for the MAP! This is pretty close to what I mean but for all the tools.
If everything is arranged in panes nothing ever covers up the content of a pane! A "Window Docks" container similar to the new beta map would basically add panes! This would be perfect! The data windows in a Dock would snap top to bottom in a column down one of the sides, or snap together left to right if docked on the top or the bottom. Combine this with the ability to define and save arrangements of the docks windows etc, recall them, and cycle through open arrangements with a keystroke like alt-tab cycles through open apps in Windows.
