Alright I've had Eve working on my work PC under wine with elfe's patch for a loooong time. I only needed it so I could change skills at work so performance/sound/etc was never an issue.
After today's patch, I can no longer type ANYTHING into the password box. I can type into the username box just fine but typing in the password box yields nothing. Copy/paste does not work either (I can choose paste but nothing appears and clicking connect just tells me that I have to specify a password).
So, I figured it might be the cache issue. I cleared out the MachoNet folder, same problem. I cleared out the entire cache folder, still get the exact same problem.
I tried upgrading to non-patched wine 0.9.29, and after doing that I get a splash screen and then it just goes black and nothing happens.
I tried installing a new copy of Eve both with the patched version of wine, AND the new version of wine, downloading the client fresh from the website today, and I get the same problem as with the old client I have installed.
I've also installed cedega 5.2.3 with engine 5.2.9 and I get the same problem there. I can install EVE fine but when I run it, choosing win2k or winxp as my winver, and whether I put it in a virtual desktop or not, I end up with a splash screen, then it goes black and I get nothing after that. With cedega I don't get an error or anything on the terminal screen, everything looks like it should be working but I never get to the login screen, despite the fact that Cedega is supposed to work with Eve just fine.
I tried cedega 5.2.5 awhile ago with Eve and I had the same problem then also which is why I went to the patched version of wine which let me login enough to train skills.
Anyway, long story short, I cannot run eve with any of the 3 wine clients (cedega 5.2.9, wine 0.9.29, or wine 0.9.25 patched with elfe's patch). The patched wine loads the login screen but does not allow me to type in the password box, and the other 2 clients just go black after the splash screen and freeze up (the wine 0.9.29 client gives me errors about directx9 but the cedega client gives no errors at all. I have the d3dx9_30.dll file copied to windows/system32 for all clients.
Any help would be appreciated, I hate losing training time at work!

Edited by: Xre Sloracknor on 30/01/2007 22:24:58 I can confirm this bug. No copy/pasteing into the box, or any typing...nothing happens.
I also testing with wine .28 instead of .29, same bug, its definetely related to the patch.
My terminal says:
fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0x10026, 0x156188): stub fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0x10026, 0x156188): stub fixme:imm:ImmNotifyIME NI_CLOSECANDIDATE fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0x10026, 0x156188): stub fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0x10026, 0x156188): stub fixme:imm:ImmNotifyIME NI_CLOSECANDIDATE fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0x10026, 0x156188): stub fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0x10026, 0x156188): stub fixme:imm:ImmNotifyIME NI_CLOSECANDIDATE
When selecting the password box, or trying to copy/paste into it, etc.

Find the arial.tff from either your windows install or on the net, and put it in in your drive_C/windows/fonts directory, should clear that.
Taerenius, you getting any wine errors? -----------------

I don't remember if I was receiving any wine errors or not - when I get back to work tomorrow I'll test and then post if I have any. I'll try copying the arial.ttf file as well.

Well, copying the arial.ttf file worked for me as well. Thanks!

It's not working with Crossover Mac anymore. I copied the font over, but the problem is that after the splash screen the login window is invisible. I can tell it is there because it distorts behind it, but other than that everything behind it is visible but the actual windows box is not.

When this happens, make sure that you click inside the window, then press ALT-ENTER to put EVE into fullscreen mode.

Edited by: Ubuntu Utu on 27/02/2007 10:53:59 I have the same issue with wine-git and 0.9.31
splash screen works, but login window is completely black with sound in the background. clicking where the title bar should be lets me move the black window around so it's responsive at least.
ALT-ENTER does not fix it.
I'm using Ubuntu 6.06 with a FX5200. ------------------------------- edit: my bad. copied arial.ttf into the wine bottle's windows/fonts dir and BAM!
