Firstly theres pirates out there so be careful (player pirates). They are liable to kill you on site.
Secondly there are groups of anti-pirates like myself. If anti pirates see any 0.0 sec players in 0.0 space flying noob ships or shuttles in starter corporations, they are assumed to be pirate alts scouting for us. Therefore we will kill such people too.
We have to do this to hunt pirates effectively, i am not making excuses for my actions which some will assume to be piracy. It is not piracy.
To avoid this being killed in space do the following...
1. Join a player based corp. These are unlikely to be attacked.
2. Move through systems as quick as possible. The longer you stay the more a presumption is you are a spy.
I apologise if you have been killed in 0.0 already but you must be aware of this.

I would just like to add to that. If you are unsure the player factions and organisations in 0.0 space get a copy of Kals EVE Maps.
Click on 'EVE Maps' and then right click the link and 'Save Target As' to download the latest Version.

Any noobs out there who read this and have been fragged by these fools let yourselves be known and show the fools in this corp up for the pirates they realy are!!

(see my above answer)
the reason why we kill "noobs" on 0.0 space is because 9 times out of ten they are pirate spies. we have to treat them as such and kill accordingly. if we didnt we would be allowing pirates to gain intel on us.
most anti-pirates agree with this tactic hence the warning.
i feel no guilt or remorse doing this as it is for the greater good for all.
of course if you wanted us to abandon pirate hunting them we will do, this to mean that 0.0 becomes infested with pirates and everyone is auto-killed.
hence my advice as above, if all follow it they wont be killed.
your comments about us being the pirates are extremely ill-informed, liable to stir hatred against our good cause and will encourage pirates to use this tactic more. therefore i would request politely that you amend the comments accordingly, else actually go pvp pirate hunting to see the use of this tactic in operation.

Yeah right. There are some sad examples in history of people that claimed the same thing. If you kill newbies because they might be pirate, I would consider you worse then pirates. At least pirates have the guts to admit they are pirates ...

I agree with Watcher, Slothe (and therefor Millennum) are worse than pirates!! They must be associated with NVA, we all know how they "help" our society! I run solo as a trader and I'll go wherever I please and if I get podded my anyone associated with Millennum because they think (and obviously I use the word loosely here) I'm a pirate spy, there will be hell to pay! ------------------------------------ Profit before pride or ego!

And that's precisely the point. When you are in 0.0 space, you are entering contested space where the pirates and alliances make the rules.
If you are fighting in a war or anti-pirate activities, and you see a noobie character with a 0.0 sec rating in a shuttle or frig in the middle of a warzone, you kill, or you're stupid, becuase it's an alt scout 90% of the time.
Oh, and by you saying that no one will tell you where you can and cannot go, you are showing that you have no clue at all how 0.0 works. It really doesn't matter if you don't like it.
All slothe is doing is trying to warn noobs that 0.0 space is not safe for "exploring" unless you are very, very careful.

I have been in 0.0 yesterday all day, trying to find offices for my brand new corp, and I didn't see any pirates or anti-pirates, lol.
Pirates want us to grow fat so they can kill us when we get bigger ships so I doubt they attack newbies in 0.0.
On the contrary I thought it was a good idea to go explore while I had no implant to lose :p .

Edited by: Mon Palae on 10/12/2003 19:08:33 slothe: Your justifications are pure and utter crap. Imagine the police just shooting citizens in a bad neighborhood on sight if they simply deem that anyone in that neighborhood who clearly doesn't belong must be a 'bad guy'.
I occasionally use an ALT to scout out 0.0 to find where rats hide or to see if a system is JIPed so I can help our indies get through safely. I engage in absolutely zero pirating myself and indeed hunt them when one pops his ugly head up assuming circumstances allow it (if I am in my hauler I obviously won't be chasing rats in it).
So the rats use scouts to. Have you ever considered being intelligent about it and feeding their scouts misleading info? I can think of many ways you can trap people with this. The only reason I can see to nail scouts is to avoid them discovering a JIP camp you have setup and frankly those are despicable. If you JIP camp you place yourself among the lowest of the low in EVE even if it is pirates only you are supposedly hunting. JIPs are easy, yes, but have some moral fiber and don't do it (assuming that is what you are protecting from discovery...otherwise I don't understand as shooting a guy most definitley alerts him to your presence).
You are not a solution to a problem...you are part of the problem with crap like this.

Slothe has posted this for peoples benefit. This is the way things work. You may or may not like it, but its the way things are in EvE in 0.0 space.
Take the advice as it was intended, as a helpful hint. Otherise you might find yourself floating home or at a cloning facility.

Understood. I can of course do nothing about it and slothe will play as he feels like playing and that's fine.
I am merely noting that his justifications for what he does is crap. I am now in danger as much from him, a supposed benefactor to rid the spacelanes from pirates, as I am from the pirates themselves.
In short he can do as he pleases but I won't let him soothe his conscience that what he does is a 'good' or 'noble' thing because it isn't.

Do they pod people as well?
Why would they bother Poding these people as by the time they attack the suspected spy your location is already revealed, pod them or not.
They are just scum. Im a n00b pirate, well will be once my skills are good, but at least I will admit it! Cowards. Let us see you, draw us into a trap or does a real fight scare you too much? Frightened that if you have the advantage and we still space ya that we will of shown you up???? Hmmm?

I dont need to justify myself to anyone who doesnt know me. People who do know ill never pirate.
If you follow my advice myself and other anti pirates will not kill you.
And i dont have a conscience :)

Contrary to popular belief, most good pirate hunters don't gather in one location and wait to "gank" a hapless pirate. Pirates are smart, and to trap one requires careful planning and co-ordination. Pirate hunters often have ships in multiple locations within a system, and indeed within multiple systems. Operational security demands the podding of suspicious players. A pod, after all, can continue to jump around and gather intel on where the pirate hunters lie in wait.
There's nothing worse than having a group of pirates come into your "trap" knowing exactly where you are, exactly what you're flying, and kitted out to make quick work of your team.
The advice was sound, and the apology genuine. Take it or leave it.

Well, all I can say is I don't think many people particularly enjoy killing alt-noobs. After all...there's no reward in it. It doesn't make one feel 1337. After all, how hard is it to kill a shuttle with a battleship? (answer: not very.)
All I can say to those of you who take umbrage to the concept...fight in a war or two. Sit in fleets and watch as two to or three different alts in every battle start scouting your position. Until you have seen this phenomenon in action, you cannot completely understand it. If you do not understand how it works, then your complaints are based upon ignorance.
Let me put it this way: If you ever find yourself in a war in 0.0 space, you will find yourself killing alt-noobs. I have never, EVER heard an experienced player refuse to do it because it might be a real noob.

Every newbee gets a popup window warning him not to go into 0.5 or lower because Concord cannot guarantee his/her safety.
And from that there are no laws in 0.0, no ethics to be concered with, just guns...
If you are a newbee and you are killed in 0.0, its likely you won't even have to buy a new clone (since you only have 20k skillpoints). Just another leason learned...

It has and will continue to be done, if a noob strays into 0.0 space he will be killed by pirates anyway. Its not in our interest to kill noob players, theres jnothing in it for us (even if we were pirates there would eb no gain from it). If you want to stay alive while your new to the game then you will stick to safe areas, venturing into unsafe systems you do at your OWN RISK! Nuff said now quit moaning

Edited by: Apoca on 14/12/2003 11:55:34 Ok everyone who has half a brain knows Slothe is right (ok im biased but hear me out ). I think what he hasn't done is fully qualify his post.
0.0 space is dangerous and travel through it has risks however some 0.0 space is riskier. Now anyone that plays for a significant amount of time knows that there are certain hotspots where pirates congregate to do what they like doing and we congregate to do what we do best (killing as many of the scum as possible ). So newbies can, with a relatively small amount of risk, travel into certain areas of 0.0 space and get away with it. However as we know some areas are virtual pirate warzones (newbies check in your map browser and set it to number of pods/ships destroyed in the last 24 hours)and both sides, pirates and pirate hunters are looking to get the upper hand. If you wander aimlessly into one of these areas without preparation or forethought...... I dont think i need to say much more apart from I think this player deserves your respect, in a dangerous universe slothe fights for the powers of good against a tide of overwhelming evil. When the war is finished and the dead and dying lie all around and we have won the final victory then and only then shall we shed a tear for those lives that were lost due to ignorance and stupidity. I for one am proud, i say proud to be a member of this corp with such fine upstanding citizens of the universe. /emote breaks into song
Millenium corp, we will fight the pirate scum
Millenium corp, until the day is done
Millenium corp, you will know us when we come
cause you'll be running for the sun with a nuke shoved right up your bum
Millenium corp, we will kick your pirate ass
Millenium corp, we will punch you to the grass
Millenium corp, everyone please raise a glass
Great now lets get ****ed and kill some f**king pirates
Millennium is Recruiting..... do you want to know more?
