Edited by: Demangel on 31/01/2007 06:15:15 I am interested in reading peoples opinions about what kinds of ships work best together in each class.
I'm most interested lately in small gang compositions... It's usualy not that hard to get a wingman when you need one, it's getting a full gang thats hard LOL. Whats more, I want this thread to offer suggestions for combos other than those that encourage camping a gate for hours with a sniper at long range... I want to get and give ideas for more active patrols and hunting teams instead if possible!
So what ships in each class work well together?
What doctrines do you reccomend (IE who should tackle? Tank? Deal damage? EW? should any of the ships help pick up the slack in some area or another. Example, suppliment your primary tackler with a DPS ship with a backup scrambler or web for emergencies.)
I have my own reccomendations of course and these arn't the only ones:
Thorax: Fit for high DPS, light tackle, and moderate/low tank (if you do it right, you won't get beat up much). MWD is choice, but AB could work fine if you have a good tackler/EW with you... You can take your jolly time getting into range if your not being eaten alive in the process. Especialy if it means more juice for the guns! Blackbird (I never flew one, so my suggestions could be awry): Fit for heavy EW to taste/need, Fit for good tackle at 20KM and under.
Doctrine: The idea would often be to lure a BC or something that would possibly find a blackbird to be easy prey (heck another BB might do the trick), into staying to fight the blackbird... Then once the target is jammed and scrambled into submission, the Rax warps in at best range, and proceeds to do the deed in safety.
To help keep the BB operational when far from a repair bay, the Rax could bring along a repair drone or two to use between encounters to deal with the damage that seeps through the sheild when there is a close call.
Tech II fun: A nice Taranis fit for best speed and best tackle. DPS being tertiary as a concern (fit say, 75MM TII rails if it means you can go faster and web - scram, jam/rep longer). A nice high power AF to dish out damage (Enyo for ease of mobility, or most especialy Ishkur for damage and versitility if your going for pure Galente tech heheh).
Doctrine: The idea here would be to take on things that either of you might be able to take on solo without EW backup (or very limited EW backup)... Small TI frig groups, lone newb cruisers without nos, an AF or an Inty, etc.
Send in the tackler to well... tackle, and the AF to spank.
TI frigate/destroyer fun: A nice disposable tackler frigate, something fast, cheap, and easy to replace (I think the vigil used to be the best if it isn't still). A nice semi disposable high DPS destroyer (8 guns MAN!!).
Doctrine: The idea here would be identical to the TII fun mentioned above, but as it's rather inexpensive, you can take more risks unless your flying expensive fittings. The frig does the tackle, and the destroyer kills. Limit your targets to other frigs, and destroyers however, and don't go looking to pick on AF's or cruisers without some EW support.
So Any other good combos any of you would reccomend? Any other good doctrines out there?
I have noted in the past that good combos are often contrary in the prime fiction, how true is this for you?: Gal+Cal Min+Amar

50+ is a bit of an exaggeration, even with Recon ships 5 and a 30km warp disruptor you're not gonna scramble anyone at 50km.

You'll get 60km range with that, to be realistic you can get 43,2km with recon 4 and a t2 warp disruptor.
The best gang would be a Falcon with a recon probe launcher for tackling the guy and a blasterthron or any damage dealer, the reason I don't choose arazu is because dampening doesn't do enough at that range.

I love curse + astarte. The curse neutralizes the target, dampens, target disrupt, nos to hell, while the astarte dishes out damage from another world :) -

Ragnarok and Archon. Nice damage type coverage, and a double superweapon just to make _sure_ you get them podkills.
Might need a cyno alt too mind.

Thorax and Domi. Thorax for tackle, Domi for damage. With a full load of T2 lights, mediums, and heavies you can expect to take just about any size ship.

I assume you meant Ragnarok and Avatar, the Archon is the Amarr carrier and has no superweapon capabilities.

I would like to test out how effective a sentry drone domi w/painters and an e-war scorpion would be at creating a fairly safe gank team...domi sits 80KM from the gate, the scorp locks down the target...boom.

Are there any more TI and non BS combos people like?
PVP isn't just about the Bs's you know. Lots of fun to be had with BC and below if you pick your targets ;)

Um... Two pods would surprise people.

My Buddy and I only fly BC and smaller T1 Ships (Very Few T2 Modules) T2 Drones.
I'm not going to post a bunch of the setups we use because it'll start a flame war about that's crap.. blah blah, my BS would WTFUBRPWN... We dun do normal we do Sneaky/Tricky and use better tactics. Why? Because most of the EVE players PVP'ing are used to easy ganks with what we show them (ie. Not expecting the newer player in easy to gank ships to pull something crazy on them etc..). Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't (works alot more often then not tho..) and is more fun then killing cruisers or BC's in my "Nano Flava of the month Ship" like most people seem to do
That Said a couple of different mixes (I know a couple are diff classes):
1. Moa (Nos Boat/Tackler) and a Drake (DPS) (Works on the "They not expecting it Principle") 2. Osprey (Bait/Tackler) and (Pick your High Dps Gank Boat or two depending on target) 3. Rifter (Tackle/Scram) Myrmi (Drones Damps Done) (Trouble with Missile Boats tho).. 4. 2 Vexors 1 (Tackle/Nos) 1 (Damps/Nos) Drones for the Kill.
Honestly though.. thinking up new tricks is what I like.. (Yes I'm sure someone else has done this but I had never seen or heard of it so here it is):
In Lowsec : Drones Out in Eve = Blood in the Ocean with Sharks... Instant Pirate Feeding Frenzy and they start warping near targets for the easy after fight ganks (Yes they do)
Time to have fun at their expense
You and your mate hop in a belt, stay for a lil, then pop drones out and wait for the idiot(s) to come in (They think ooo fight lets get an easy kill after they beat each other up)... What really happens is a very surprised pirate gets Gang Webbed, Damped, Scrammed and popped by the two people that should have been fighting (This particular tactic works with any ships depending on what your hunting.. and is ALOT of fun. Also causes lots of... ummm smack-talk in local)
Any other fun tactics anyone uses?

2 vexors, 2 thoraxes, 1 vexor, 1 thorax combos work well. If you go with the standard cookie cutters, it works better than trying to have a tackler and an ew person IMO.
you must have some pretty bad pirates in your area

Full-Jammer setup can get a jam almost always. Even if you only jam half of the time it's more than enough cause it screws your opponent up. (Locking-Speed after a jam must be considered too)
Apart from that, some guy with full dps n web/jam. Like blasters, those things do insane damage but take fitting/cap/low range, which isn't an issue when you don't need to tank.
Dampeners are not chance based, but imo not as effective against all setups.
One thing to consider too if you're tanking.. Remote armor rep. Means you can fit a cap recharger instead of a rep (or something else) which is better than the nos. And the remote rep is better than an armor rep too. (You rep your buddy, he reps you. Less energy, more tank. iirc).

Edited by: Marquis Dean on 02/02/2007 18:27:29 I use a Ferox/Myrm combo when i'm going on the cheap.
Ferox w/ 5 x 250mm rails, firing iridium from decent ranges, mids full of RSDs.
Myrm with standard nos-heavy gank setup w/mwd and heavy drones.
I'd say it works well but it hasn't met anyone yet. Our wartargets like the warmth and security of their hisec stations. :(
Crow and Armageddon worked well tho. Crow snared a Brutix and geddon warped to the Crow from a SS and blew it apart. ------ ------
