Hi, I want to buy one of these ships soon for moving juicy minerals in Empire. I will always be in 0.5 and above, however I am perfectly aware of the suicide gankers and I am looking for your opinions on;
1 - Which one to buy 2 - How to fit it (cant find suitable setups in sticky) 3 - Any tips you can suggest when moving 20 + systems
Thanks for any help, all appreciated :)

Suicide gankers wont be able to break the tank of a transport ship, if you fit it with a decent shield tank.
They will get at most 3 volleys that will do vastly reduced damage against the tech 2 rated shields, and through your resist hardeners.
fit extenders, a couple of passive hardeners to raise your lowest resist. fit a salvager and a tractor beam in your highs. so that when the gankers die, you can tractor their wreck, take their t1 crap, salvage their wreck, and laugh. - - -

Edited by: James Lyrus on 31/01/2007 14:53:44 Occator: Bigger, also covers Iteron 5. More low slots means more stabs, nanos, istabs or whatever.
Bustard: Shield tanks, can spare slots for 'hauler mods' and still fit a tank.
The difference between Charon and Obelisk may also influence your choice, assuming you've trained neither, but... well TBH freighters are pretty same-y. They've no slots, are slow, and hard work to fill up.
Bustard: Cloak Large Shield booster amp II, EM shield hardener II, Invuln II. 5x nanos, stabs, istabs, or expanders, dependant on need.
Occator, about the same TBH, only with an armour tank trading off your hauling slots.
In empire, no one's going to suicide one easily. (Seriously, they have BS hitpoints, and better resists and sig).
When travelling, istabs and nanos are great, MWD largely irrelevant. warp core stabs if you're expecting trouble :).
Edit: Don't forget cargo expansion rigs.

Great ty for the replies. I have got lvl 5 in both Caldari and Gallente industrial. Still not sure which one to buy, I am aiming for a freighter eventually too. I shall compare the two in more detail with what you have said. Thanks again.
Oh, which freighter if you had the choice would you buy between Caldari and Gallente

Get the Charon. It has a much larger capacity but it's a lot slower than the Obelisk. However who cares about speed in a freighter right? They're all pretty damn slow.

You wouldn't be saying that if you were in our corporate freighter racing tournament....
You can make a case for the Fenrir, as being at the 'fast' end of the 'really big and slow' scale. Charon's at the 'big and slow' end, but has the largest cargo capacity.
Not that it actually matters all _that_ much, they're all a) slow and b) huge.

A transport is not impervious to hi-sec gankers, but most won't bother with you. You can only fit one hi-slot, so tractor OR salvager. |

Yep. Chances are you'll have time to dock or escape the system before they reappear though. ----------------

They will be criminally flagged, but their corpmates un-involved in the gank could harass you.

Bustard all the way, I think the only real reason anyone ever uses the Gallente transports and Obelisk is because the Iteron 5 is the best T1 hauler, though in the T2 realm shield tankers win, which would be the Mastodon (which I have) and the Bustard. Also the Bustard is around 30-40mil cheaper than the Occator, so keep that in mind ;) ------------------------ Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. -Albert Einstein |
