So a year has come and gone and the "mystery code" seems to have been forgotten... again...
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=5459930#post5459930
This was the last post that seemed to get somewhere, but alas... the year has passed and we are in the same posision so time to bring it up again.
I know everyone is in CITIDEL mode atm but another update has come and gone with not so much as a nice hat...

I believe CCP Falcon took on responsibility when the original guy left. Falcons usually pretty good on his word but i have to agree, i feel having this mystery code has gone from being a really good idea to one of meh what was the point again?

I'm fairly sure CCP is spread rather thin on resources at the moment. As cruel as it may sound, creating more (unique) resources when they're not bringing in any (new) money may not be very appealing to them :)
They may try to lure you toward gunjack, valkyrie or legion later on with new stuff from the code.
If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

Fun fact... the mystery code was advertised with a unique Valkyrie ship on launch...

Apart of the deal was this unique item for Valkyrie. So CCP isn't fulfilling their what they advertised. |

For the mystery code I suggest Faction Citadel BPC's, since eve online is now pay more to win at well.. everything
Eve online is :
A) mining simulator B) glorified chatroom C) spreadsheets online
D) CCP Games pay More to win at skill training time, now with instant gratification

once again, a dev has mentioned that they know about this and are working on something. Launch is not for a bit off, as we are getting early access with a rift, not launch. So technically not the same

They aren't getting anymore money from collector's editions so why would they worry about working on anything to do with them? CCP operates on the 'what have you done for me lately' business strategy, promises on goods purchased don't mean anything once the cash gained from them is long gone.

Well hopefully they will still honor their Valkyrie promise for the code when it actually releases.
As for the EVE side of the code it does feel like it needs a little love... Especially with all the in game events going on and coming up.

Hey guys,
We haven't forgotten about the Mystery Code, and have been discussing some stuff for before Fanfest.
As I said when the last bunch of stuff went out, the mystery code is not going to be an ISK faucet for players who have it, and is not going to be updated with stuff super regularly. It's not a code that gives entitlement to free stuff every x number of months.
It's designed for large scale promotions when there's something big going on and we want to provide additional benefits to those who have a mystery code.

From a corporate point of view, what is the purpose of doing something for some specially loyal/investeed players less than once a year? You know, even a collectible birthday card delivered to their redeeming system at the appropiate date would be cooler than get some random trinket each 14 months or when CCP feels like it...
CCP Seagull: "EVE should be a universe where the infrastructure you build and fight over is as player driven and dynamic as the EVE market is now".
62% of players: "We're not interested. May we have Plan B, please?"
CCP Seagull: "What Plan B?"

The response is sufficiently vague to the point of ensuring that in another year we'll probably be seeing this thread again. What you've given is an uncertainty about what it can/will be used for, how often and, at least as I read it, whether it will require some form of further buy in.
So far the mystery code goods seem to revolve around goods of a type otherwise found in the NES (IIRC), does that mean the code benefits will concentrate on development there? How big is "big" in regard to this? Does it include large changes in game play, new in game items, new store items, or new types of items being offered? And is the time frame more or less as those qualified changes come (which appears to not have happened as of yet since the code was released based on current mystery code offerings)? |

Apparently bigger than Citadels. At least we now have a standard to judge by.
