I know there is a chart for ship sizes, however im wondering how that person got the specific sizes of each ship to compare them all. If i was able to get some of that data i might be able to model one and put it into an engine so people could look at it from the perspective of a person.
I think that would really give a sense of awe....

Edited by: AngryCanuk on 31/01/2007 19:45:39 Yes i know it already has a size comparison, between them and the tower. However havent you ever wondered what a megathron would look like if you were someone on the groud and it came into the atmosphere?
If i knew the exact size, i could put that into a game engine.
edit: im not wanting to see the size comparison, i have it as my background, what i do want to know is HOW HE DID IT. thanks :)

Ummm...the Eiffel Tower is in the picture? **looks puzzled as to why there is any question still since the Eiffel Tower is a known quantity**

Mainly because i thought there would be an easier way to get the size of the ships then measuring with "eiffel tower" lengths also the pictures dont give a width to the ships. For 3d models i need 3 measurements :P

Edited by: Winters Chill on 31/01/2007 19:58:48 Well the problem that in space there is no real frame of reference. Many asternauts have reported "strange s**t" however whn asked how big it was they could tell because against a starry black background they could see how big the "strange sh*t" was.
Heres a handy guide, let your imagination do the rest.
The Tower is 986 feet tall or 300 meters Your average person is roughly 1.7 meters tall (worldwide) The Avatar is roughly 5 km at it widest point Mount Everest is slightly over 8 km high A galaxy class starship is 643 meters long An american footbal field is 109.7 m long The Staypuff marshmallow man is roughly 43 meters high Statue of Liberty is 93m high 330 ton mining truck is 7.3 meters high. Present ISS is 80m long!

the tower would be a better base for comparision anyway since (with a bit of work) you can get a scaling of the two items. A person would be a dot on that graph.
Besides if I saw an Apoc I would probably yell "Hey, let me up there I know how to fly it. " _____________________________ Public Health Advisory - Say NO to OOC! |

It's still not to scale, so the Eiffel Tower comparisons are somewhat bunk. My Griffin is half the size of a Raven, for instance, despite the latter having a crew in the thousands.
Still fun though.
