I've used the crappy mouse that comes with a new computer. I've used optical and optical-wireless.
I'm here to tell you that after buying an optical trackball mouse I'm a whole new person! It is just great.
Anyone else using trackball mouse and how do you like it?

I've heard it's great, I know someone who plays FPSs with a Logitech one and he doesn't suck that badly. It's only in professional gaming that I can't imagine someone using a trackball.
Graphic/computer-aided design though, oh yeah, old schoolers use them. The mouse is quicker, but the trackball is much better for small movements. A mouse is slightly intuitive for a first time computer user, but the trackball is way easier to use in the non-dominant hand.
But you can't make me part from my Logitech G5 + Everglide Titan Monstermat + Mouse Bungee 2.0. Spending MSRP-wise 100 dollars on just the mouse alone gives me the warm luxurious feeling you get when you're in a wood-paneled room. And yes, I am a FPSer so it's not going to waste, don't worry.

I use a trackball all the time now and love it. But remember, the manipulation of it is actually quite different then from a mouse, so expect to take some time and practice before you are proficient at zipping the cursor about

My mates got one, once was enough, your an fps junkie, forget it.
Ok so i was drunk at the time, but i found even playing eve on it was next to imposable.
Slow would be word id use
The only way to go is the microsoft intellimouse v1.1.
I went through about 20 mouses and a stack of cash before i found the true weapon of choice

so ghey! We use em @ college, there all sticky and your fingers are all greasy afterwards...
Im using a Logitech MX510 , think it was the gaming mouse quite a while ago, gonna get a new one when i upgrade my pc

The thumb type trackball would be GREAT for games like EVE and probobly many other MMOs but i cant see them being good AT ALL for FPS. I actually have been planning on getting my self another track ball and nly useing my gaming mouse for my FPS games. But im lazy so therin lies my problem

Till it broke some days ago i used my Cordless Trackman Optical beside my MX 510,
i prefer Trackballs over mice most of the time, especially in EVE, sometimes even in FPS.
Just set all speed settings to extra high and there you go :)
(playing EVE on a wacom tablet is - THE - Horror)

for eve a trackball is awesome
for FPS, i use Microsoft Intellimouse 1.1, Mouse Bungee 2 and this awesome contraption

I have a great trackball for my laptop The logitech optical trackman great mouse.
A logitech MX1000 laser mouse for the gaming machine (FPS, RTS)
and a old MS intellimouse explorer 1.1 (the silver one, but it's not really silver any more) it's over 5 years old.
