Last few days we've been experimenting with using smartboming ships to kill WTZ pilots. I'm pleased to say all ships from t1 hauler and under insta die. (frigs shuttles pods destroyers etc etc)
The trick is place two 8 bomb BS just over 5k from gate and trigger bombs as they tumble out of warp. Works great... and in fact most die before they ever reach the WTZ and end up just floating in pod in shock.
Very old tactic but one most just pushed aside since Kali (I assumed this could never work). I'd guess it's only possible now because everyone exits warp at a similar place on the 'warp in' side of the gate.
Please don't flame me, just sharing that WTZ in low sec does no longer guarantee any small ships safety.
btw, the loot it generates with all these people 'thinking' they are safe is massive. Get your bombs out guys, lets gank some bears :-)

You need alot of large bombs, 8 large named is enough to pop most frigs. 16 is enough for most haulers.
With more effort cruisers will be possible...

well known tactic. Main problem with it is that sb's are so cpu intensive it can often be hard to fit a tank decent enough to tank sentries indefinately.

Yeah, but in a moderate sized gang it's not a problem. Certainly not a tactic for a solo player though...
I never thought you could SB guys still in warp tbh. Though I'm guess they are techinically out of warp and just moving really fast

Wasn't there was some pirate years ago who did it in 0.0 with a load of officer smarties got loads of kills until he got a bit slack one day and his SS was found.

Yep, we also used to do it with warp to 15 pilots before Kali, but I thought WTZ had ended the fun.

Before my time in S******dly, but it does look as if it was done before Tiller, Ginger and co "discovered" it.
WTZ has made very little difference to gate camping, just catch guys on the warp out rather than the warp in, and adapt set ups for this. The thing it has made a difference too is the long range sniping gate ganks, with no 15 kms run for the gate or turn and align out sniping now needs a lot more skills and tactics than before

Having looked into it a little more, and read up on some classified Snigg stuff, there is some tactics to add to simply slapping on a few Smart bombs and sitting near a gate.
To be really effective it needs evaluating which ships, which smarties and where to position each ship.
Kudos to October Snow for utalising the tactic and also making it work, it shows that pirates can think too

both in 0.0 and in empire.
both S******dly and Sniggwaffe are active in both areas, at present our 0.0 base is surrounded by war zones which give lots of opportunity for asset aquisition so much of our activity is based in that area.

This led me to believe that you guys went Bear

you ran into new sniggwaffe recruits not s******dly. the molden heath area was a temporary staging point before the swiggs got moved to curse. the sec statuses, as if it mattered, were high because most of these people just joined the corp.

Tiller is clearly trying to make himself famous by revealing every little pirate tactic he can come up with. There is no other reason to divulge the information. If everybody knows your tricks then they aren't nearly as effective, which is why you don't see us posting all our tactics here.

Heres a question for you OctoberSnow boys. How long does it take to get from -10 to -1.9..(ie go anywhere coz I am a monkey status ) if you have access to 0.0
My corp mates thought I would never stop flashing red, but as you can see, I managed it, and still kept killing.

No, it was a serious post to tell the S/N/W/IGG to STFU, while sarcastically acknowledging their impetus for posting.
Tiller is clearly trying to make himself famous by revealing every little pirate tactic he can come up with. There is no other reason to divulge the information. If everybody knows your tricks then they aren't nearly as effective, which is why you don't see us posting all our tactics here.

I understand what you're saying. I think the hope is that more pirates read this forum than bears. We all want to see non-pirates and cuddly bears destroyed in very large numbers on a daily basis.
Where else can we go to share thoughts, views, tactics, etc. with fellow pirates? And for this smartbomb thing, you can't counter it even if you know about it unless you
1. Warp to gate at 50 or 100km to scout it
2. Travel in a large ship
I can assure you his intent is not to "spill the beans" so the tactic becomes obsolete. Its to increase gankage and carnage to maximum levels.
Also, I have to point out that not every Eve player reads the forums. Most do not.

Please don't flame me, just sharing that WTZ in low sec does no longer guarantee any small ships safety.
btw, the loot it generates with all these people 'thinking' they are safe is massive. Get your bombs out guys, lets gank some bears :-)
Thats an extremely cunning tactic and a clever use of existing game mechanics.
Somebody start the nerf clock on that one. I give it two months before either it goes the way of microwarp drives.

I'd disagree and say it's a old tactic thats been tweaked for Kali and WTZ.
I must admit I never tried this tactic to get the old insta jumpers of pre Kali, did that work as well ?

They are easy pickings, but you'd be surprised how many 'gate campers' don't have a clue about what they are doing.

As someone who's corp need to travel through these smartbombs would a safe spot off the grid behind the gate help. Then you would warp to this safe spot before using your WTZ option?

Sure, you would be immune... come at the gate from another direction, like you say behind the gate is best. You would be out of range of the bombs.

To all the people saying it takes no skill or thought, I call bull****. I have no fear of moving my stuff in lowsec, with the exception of the Snigg/Snow (happy?) Gate Bombing, for one simple reason: WTZ means camps can only get me on the jump-in side, and anything that can lock me fast enough is insta-owned by the sentries.
By the way, when times change, old tactics are reborn. Write it down.
