Hmm thats abit of intrigue, would be cool if ccp could clear that up
As for first ever pvp kill then not sure if ccp would hold logs when there were no killmails, if thats the case then wonder what the first ever killmail was

Let's clear that up: There were mails.
The person getting killed always got a loss-mail. That the killer gets a kill-mail was added later.
And ofc CCP has the answer to that in their DB.
Originally by: Sigmorhair The irony. I guess we will never know if Bob cheated to kill the first avatar either. Odds are they did.
Oh well, nice game while it lasted.
Get real. If you can't even run a scan yourself it's not strange that you come up with conspiracy theories tbh.

Here lies the remnants of Bruce the Almighty, whose fittings were scarceful and far from alrighty. They thought they had tanked, yet still they were ganked, by numerous dreads and a rifter named Heidi.
or maybe:
This Titan was flown by Cyvok the Boss, who suffered a sudden connection loss. He got disconnected, aggressed and detected, and died with his primaries still unselected.
Nice, and original, but there's already another one that I much prefer:

Near them by the asteroids, Half burned, a frozÆn corpse drifts, whose frown And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command Tell that the pilot, well those passions read Which yet survive, stamp'd on this lifeless thing, The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed. And on the prow these words appear: "My name is Avatar, titan of titans: Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains: round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, The mute and blinking stars stretch far away.
PS: I'd go travel there and watch it.

The funny thing is: I had this business idea once of Tourist Guide.
Go to a starter system, grab a few interested newbies, take them to a low-sec system with a good agent.
"And now, with a bit of luck we'll get to spot a carrier, but they're rare. I know at least two pilots in local are able to fly a Thanatos. Oh look! That's a Caldari Navy Raven, worth over a billion. It's probably got a Gist XLarge Shield Booster on it worth at least another half bill. See how it's warping into the deep dark nowhere? That's off for a mission. Should be back in under an hour. And the gate we came through was once camped by a solo Nyx which noone could shoot down. Here's the link to the killboard report of the event." etc etc.
Just too bad I'd probably end up giving out more free gifts than I'd earn

I think it is a fitting monument (or will be). And to the guy who said to omit the names of the parties involved: why? This game is and foremost a player-driven game. So I think it is fitting that BoB and ASCN are mentioned on the monument for all to see. After all it is ASCN who built the titan and BoB who destroyed it.
The folklore angle I can understand. But it is not fitting in this regards because both BoB and ASCN worked hard for their respective goals and one became the winner. After all, every single historic battlefield on the planet has the participants who were involved mentioned. To not list the participants would be demeaning to both BoB and ASCN.

Cool monument though
The first ever killed battleship was a m0o Dominix piloted to the infamous Lord Zap, solo against a blob of alliance cruisers and frigates.
This was back when we could stack damage mods to obtain insane damage multipliers.

Well, alternatively you could win a riddle contest, like the Burn Eden guys did. (should the monument in Jita have their names removed from it if we stick to this "no names" idea?)
There's been also moons named after players who won Amarr frigate tournament thing... perhaps these names should be erased as well :x

Its a shame the Titan didn't die a more noble death. Getting ganked while logged off is really an unimpressive end, and not particularly monument worthy. It simply has a loud "this is a game" association with it due to the out-of-game component, as opposed to dying in battle.
Let's imagine the Titan's final moments from an in-character perspective...
Cyvok: "Ok, everyone into the hibernation pods". Random Flunkie: "Um sir, there's hostiles around." Cyvok: "Yes, but because we haven't shot anyone in 13 minutes we'll magically dissapear from space in 2 more minutes." Random Flunkie: "Ooh, ok sir. I guess magic must work if you say so."
BoB Scout: "Noobs! They forgot that the magic resets if you go into hibernation before the full 15 minutes is up. Now we have 15 minutes to find their sleeping bodies."
A valid kill, but it was a death of basically OOC game mechanics. Let's see the first Titan to go down in actual use.

I really fail to get your point here jO.
The Jita statue was an award for winning a contest sponsored by a caldari corp or whatever.
The planets and moons were named after the pilots by the emperor, as a "thank you" cause if it wasn't for them, he would have been dead instead of emperor at the time.
This is a ghad damn wreck. A huge crap piece of metal floating in space. Nothing else.
BE solved the riddles and won the statue. MASS reigned the tourney and won the moons. BOB killed the titan and won the war.
You really don't see it that way?
Ofc there are alot of other concern I'd gladly discuss. I didn't like the statue idea at all. Or, it could have been ok in another lesser system perhaps. It's certainly an intersting subject if players (not NPC factions) should be empowered to raise monuments. I'm not sure at all how that could be solved. It'd sure be interesting. If the ex-ASCN wanted and could raise a monument for Cyvok, that'd be all ok for me (although I dunno how they could... surely the monument would have to be in their space, but they have new landlords :s ). If BoB wanted and could raise a monument to remember the destruction of this titan, that'd be ok for me (and ofc you could then put that next to the generic big ass wreck from the titan). But tbfh I don't see why you want a monument for blowing up a logged off ship - is that really something you're proud of? If I'd been a FC in BoB I would have been gutted at the fact I never got the chance to kill the titan in a real battle (though I ofc would have proceeded to destroy the logged ship as the goal was to win a war).
I know damn well that I'm biased (and so is everyone), but I'd think I have a point that people on 'your side' could agree with :s

"I really fail to get your point here jO."
To be honest, i think it's really bad time for adding this kind of 'memorial' to the game, since it just resonates too much with the "a-ha, Band of Developers!" vibe and all the tinfoil picks it up... and the whole "meh" way the titan went boom ain't helping it, either. It'd be much much easier if it died in a real regular fight instead but heey, that's like wishing for a pony now :/
But at the same time, i feel the "it shouldn't have any names on it" notion is also to degree influenced by the recent drama... i don't mean it in a insulting way, but it seems to be a bit of knee-jerk reaction that wouldn't take place if it was any other entity involved in it. While yes, the titan death was far from glorious itself, it is at the same time a significant event as far as player-created content in this game goes... what would be the point of *not* putting the names of these involved in it? So people who come to game months later can fantasize it's maybe a space whale that died out of hunger and/or are left wondering, because these who might still remember... moved on and are no longer playing?
There's enough problem with keeping the record of player-generated game history as it is -- lot of things are forgotten, and plenty are reduced to vague 6th-hand recollections... imo to call for further vagueness and lack of information and records, it just makes the game somewhat more meaningless in the long run.

Who knows, there might be more monuments out there each time a Titan is destroyed. As for wondering how to get to the wreck, it will probably show up on the overview so you can warp there. Although I doubt many people will be seeing it since they will only get shot at. -------------------------------------------------- #1. Pillage, THEN burn. #8. Mockery and derision have their place. Usually, it's on the far side of the airlock. |
