Hello,
I just wanted to ask what is maximum targeting range in eve. I know that with sensor boosters i can improve it, but is it possible to target further thatn 250 km or even further that 300 km ?
Thank you,

Lock range is capped at about 250km, IIRC.

249.9999 KM is the furthest you can lock. The rokh can easily hit out to that with SPIKE, not sure who else can.

That max 250km distance is reachable by a Megathron with t2 large rails and a Tempest with t2 large artillery, when using t2 sensor boosters and tracking computers and spike ammo. (along with the Rohk)
I'm not sure if the Amarr BSes can pull that far, having never seen one do it, but I would be inclined to think it's possible. With t1 gear only, I think you would have a hard time reaching past 150km max.

T1 guns have the same range as T2 guns, you just lose T2 ammo. So you could hit to the same range with iron or whatever, but do crap damage. Only ship that can get some decent range with non-crap ammo is really the rokh with BS5...

My Abaddon w/ named Tachyons and Radio crystals and (my admittedly average) gunnery skills can reliably hit targets at 155km (not hit them HARD mind you, but i can HIT them )
with an extra sensor booster and extra tracking computers/enhancers I could reach about 175-200, but I'd have to drop enough gear to fit them to make it impractical. *** Confidence keeps you alive...cockiness will get you podded *** |

I'm sorry, that's not correct. T2 guns have longer base damages then their T1 standard counterparts. The best named gun in each category may be able to match the T2 gun, I haven't looked them all up.
More importantly, however, the T2 long-range ammo has a significantly larger distance bonus then the longest-ranged T1 ammo for that category. I believe they're all 60% for T1 and 80% for T2.
There's a huge difference in range between T1 and T2 outfitted ships.

The best named T1 guns have identical ROF, base damage, and base range as their T2 counterparts. The only variation in T2 guns themselves, is they gain a 2-10% damage mod from the ___ railgun spec skill.
A rokh with a named t1 gun using IRON will hit at 245-250k, depending how fancy you want to be. Realize a rokh with spike is hitting like 275km.. so 20% less than this is still a good 245km.. thats with only 3 tracking computers and caldari BS 5. A rig or another mod will push you to 250.. with iron.

But as i understand, then there is no use of hiting at 275 km, because its not possible to target that far !?!

You're correct, nothing can target/shoot past 250k.
The only BS that can snipe at 250k with t1 gear is a Rokh, because it's the only BS that gets a range bonus per level of BS. At Caldari BS V you're talking a 50% bonus to range. No other t1-outfitted BS will reach 250k.
Actually this has become fairly irrelevant to the original posters question anyway. Sorry.
To summarize, sensor boosters (mid slot) increase your targeting range, and tracking computers (mid slot) and tracking enhancers (low slot) increase your guns optimal range. Various skills can also increase your optimal and your falloff. And a few ships, like the Rokh, have a bonus built in to them. But nothing will get you past 250.
