Quote: Windows vista is not yet supported although you may be able to run the eve client on it.
I attempted to run eve on a work machine with a 7600gs card and vista home basic, got routinely 15fps in belts and not much more in station, after a reinstall I realised the main problem was sitting in my chair as usual since I for some odd reason had activated the natural IR trackingpoint option in camera menus, why I did that heaven knows. worked just fine at about 30fps yesterday, havent had the time to test today with the new patch yet.
cpu is a 3Ghz and 1GB of 553mhz RAM.
The only issue i have had with vista and eve up until now is that screenshots and generating character snapshots dont store in the folders, a small issue probably related to the new UAC in Vista.

I had some serious issues, really goes beyond lag, some sort of de-syncronization.
I undocked from the station in my freighter right after dt, hoping to do a quick jump into low sec. After getting bumped by the station a few times I made it into warp. However, my corp mate who was escorting me said I never warped away from the station. It was strange, because I clearly was in warp. When I landed on top of the gate I tried to jump but it said I had to be within 2500 meters, but I was! I was 500 meters from the gate. Not sure what was going on, but I decided to relog. When I got back I was at the station sure enough. The whole affair was bizarre and I can only hope temporary! -------------------

May I ask CCP for a favor?
Please, have someone install Windows XP in such a way that its' system partition is other than C: (don't ask, Windows installer decided C: was already taken during install, by smartcard reader - sigh).
I have it as F:, and I have horrible troubles every time I need to patch. Had to reinstall EVE completely for last 2 patches, since patch was failing with things like:
"Patching Error in file resui.stuff. The specified file did not have the correct CRC.
This indicates that your installation is corrupt. Please reinstall EVE-online".
I've had variuos errors before, but last 2 patches are real time-wasters. I have no trouble with patching on machines where I have C: as Windows system partition.

well it also could be that the temporary drive is full. like F or C . patching requires roughly about 500MB free diskspace [2x the largest file to patch as estimat]

Edited by: Baleorg on 08/02/2007 15:42:16 yep, you can within windows define where tempdrive is ^^
but afaik the rtp system uses the "current drive/folder" of the to-be-patched-programm to place the temporarypatchfile so be sure to have 2x the largest-to-be-patched-file size :-p seeing that resui is the largest file in this patch, you need to have at least 110MB free. odd

Just put a shortcut to launch EVE on your desktop from whichever partition it's on. It doesn't even matter where the folder resides. Neither one of my EVE installations are even installed on this computer, I just use multiple copies of the eve folder, each copy has a desktop shortcut, the installer finds it no problem if you launch from these shortcuts.

It seems that everyone else is experiencing other issues besides mine. When launching the game from my desktop, I am unable to download the patch via the log in screen. I went to the patch page to download it manually and I am still unable to download it. I'm guessing there is a work-around for this or is it a "Hurry up and wait" kinda thing? Edited by: Smagd on 08/02/2007 19:36:43 I got two niggles so far:
- Bookmarks from the builtin Web Browser are gone (easily fixed)
- A few *very* crucial mission rats have disappeared from them Overview Settings. "Generic Mission Frigate" is one I can't check. This includes stuff like "Angel Viper", which warp scramble. I can right-click them to add them, but they're nowhere in my Overview Settings. I expect some more are missing, but I'll have to run into one to add it. I expect this is going to cause a few ship losses and petitions.
Other NPC types appear, but are now unchecked, like "Deadspace Overseer" and "Sentry Gun".

I've run into a strange problem while updating my Eve Client.
I downloaded the patch through the client itself, and installation went smooth up to the end. Then a message window popped up telling me something around the lines "Something has gone wrong while updating the client: some file is locked now and will be updated once you restart your computer".
I pressed OK on that message window and *whoops* the computer doesn't seem to be going to restart at all. I manually restart it, and when I try to start my Eve client, the splash screen comes up, it disappears, and that's all. No login window at all.
Checking the processes I find ExeFile.exe on the list, with top memory consumption (around 300MB) and 0% CPU usage.
Seems that the locked file wasn't unlocked at all by restarting the computer :/

FIX
Well thats probably *not* that important to fix unlike following: - German Translations revised - Minor fix for Russian text in the tutorial
oh my gosh awesome!! Why the heck are we even bothered to download patch like that?! I mean comn how many ppl are realy using german or russian client?
Plus i cant help myself but i cant see how some stupid translation fix can be that critical to have extra patch release just to fix some typos...

Maybe you are doing something wrong? I have windows on drive D and have no problems.
And i believe that installer checks your registry for path where your client is installed anyways, so it realy does not matter on what drive your windows is...

Edited by: Smokie24 on 08/02/2007 23:19:50 Hi,
I have a problem...or 2. BEFORE the latest patch everything was dandy. I installed patch, everything cool until the end of patch where it look like it froze. Some pop-up came up in a bunch of squares for text it looked. I press ok (since that the only text I understood and was a button) I press that and return me to desktop. All look fine. I go to open browser and it took forever, so i hit ctrl-alt-del and my usage/resources are being used like no tomorrow. This lead to system freeze up within couple minutes. I had to pull power cord from back of desktop So I plug it back in, restart, start EVE, login and now my ctrl and alt dont work, as well as some screens not loading at all. I said ok whatever..goto deadspace and figure out quickly that none of my f1-f12 buttons work, so I say screw this, I goto exit the game and my escape button now doesnt work now im stuck in a mis-functional game with no way to exit. Esc broken, windows button broken, screens not loading and cant fire missiles, obviously I cannot ctrl-alt-del my way to the desktop...so again im stuck to having pull the power plug directly from the tower
My only fix it seemed, COMPLETE uninstall of EVE and COMPLETE re-install After the re-install everything seems to be ok...for now.
And also my harddisk is pertition or whatever. I got EVE installed on F: prior to the latest patch (german tutorial one) EVE worked fine.

IMHO.... I think the default location of eve should be changed, if this is now the behavior in Vista. I install it in $DRIVELETTER\ccp, for example. (in my case, $DRIVELETTER = C:)
I am currently using Windows Vista Ultimate, with no ill effects of upgrading.
I do back up my eve directory tree, and copy it around for use in testing on the test server, etc
I do not advocate the disabling of UAC, I personally recommend you leave it enabled.
I was able to patch this morning with no problem, UAC did pop up and ask me if it was okay to do so, which I expected.

You can easily fix that afterwards, but all programms that will be looking for F: would have to be reinstalled. This post is not my personal opinion. It does represent the standpoint of every single player ! |

I have a minor issue and it's not related to the latest patch but one of the preceeding.
With the addition of the possibility to search for alliances in people and places the selection box (character/corporation/solar system) got a slider.
Searching for a solar system can no longer be selected directly.
Could the actual drop down area be extended to make this unnecessary ? Would appreciate that.
Or sort the list to have the unusual search selections in the 'hidden' area. (not easy as 'unusual' seems to be vague and player pref dependant).

Everytime i undock from a station, the overall grafical environment is "wierd". By that i mean it's generally darker than normal and lacks the usual stars and such effects. Also, the warp tunnel effect shows up before you go into warp. By opening and closing the map the problem is usually fixed though, but still very annoying.
When will the view reset that occurs after each jump be fixed btw? Another annoying "feature" that has been around since the first Revelations patch. |

Doesn't seem to be an issue with "saved" overview profiles once you add them, then resave your profile (at least that fixed it for me) ... if you're using the standard profile I'd suggest creating a "saved" one for now so you don't have to keep readding :) - Dunedon

Know it wasn't strictly patch related, since the d/t change to Motsu area wasn't released with the patch, but whatever you changed (i.e. moved left a bit) seems to have made a huge difference to the lag problem in the area. Motsu, Oichiya and one other system in particular appear to be suffering a lot less than normal.
Great job if this is a permanent effect of the tweak...

guess you either need to download a full build either from the official site or if you cant download from there from my mirror (hmm believe its still version 28296 though) or try the link in my sig, although i think in your case it might not work, or well. it might, but the splash.bmp wont be the right thing, and i have no clue what happens then, if your client fails the selfcheck (does it even check splash.bmp ? ) or if you get flagged for "modified" client because not all files are in sync hmm

I¦m running vista 32bits since last week and was running smooth. But yesterday, two of my three accounts just stop working. When u select the char, game start loading and crash to desktop saying something abou DEP closed application. The problem is my third account is working normally.
Anyone has any idea? That two accounts is bugging are on voice server test... The issue started a few hours after I emailed ccp for the voice test.
All accounts are working fine on XP.
I tryed everthing. reinstall. prefes.ini, disable dep for eve.exe and install game in another parttion. Also, windows says cant run exefile.exe on bin dir without dep enable.
Thanks.
