relevant science skills for module in question
those are invention skills. also, having some levels in hacking (level 2 needed anyway) and archeology would help a bit as you could hit those COSMOS complexses and exploration sites yourself. probing skills help aslo in non direct way to find those exploration sites first place.

According to CCP's own info, The level of your encrytion skill and the R&D skill related to datacores you are using have a direct impact on you chances of succes.
That means you have about 30 to 40 million sp's of skills you could train to improve your invetion chances...

Is the encryption method skill actually needed for invention itself, or just to create the data interface .. what if for example you buy a ready made interface?

I don't believe it's actually required for Invention, but I have a feeling your success rate without it would be low enough to make it unprofitable. Just a gut feeling, no real evidence to back it up.

the skill is required to do invention, its listed as needed when u get the quote.

I can report my very limited findings so far:
Trying an ivention job with all 3 (2 science, 1 encryption) skills at level 4, 2 attempts out of 2 failed. That was using the decryptor giving the best chance of success.
I'll make some more attempts but I wouldn't recommend trying invention unless you have top-notch skills.

That sucks, but I think you might've just had extremely bad luck. My experience, and what I've read from others, makes me think the chance of success with level 4 skills and a good decryptor/base item should be around 70-80%.

Well, I did 3 more attempts and one of them resulted in a 5-run ME -7 (wastage 0.6) BPC.
And I'm inventing rigs so there is no good base item. Maybe that's the problem.
Anyway 20% success rate is too low for me. If the datacores fall in price I might try again in couple of months.

Maybe I was just lucky.
First attempt gave me a ME -8 9run bpc, using no base item, and lvl 1 on 2 of the required skills.
