The best plan is something like: Adv. Int 1-2-3 Basic mem 4 Adv. Mem 1-2 Learning 3 Adv. Mem 3 Learning 4 and so on.
I advice to use the EVEMon - it can automatically optimize skill learning curves, show estimated training time, speed, training time saved by implants etc etc.
Yeah I'm using that...but I didn't find where you could optimize skill training time, I only saw that you can sort by quickest first and things like that. I had to add all the skills I wanted then manually switch them around to see the optimal way.
So far I have: Analytical Mind IV Instant recall III (training to IV) Learning III Logic III
Optimal way is (ignore logic since it's already trained): 1. Instant Recall IV 2. Eidetic Memory I 3. Logic II 4. Eidetic Memory II 5. Logic III 6. Eidetic Memory III 7. Learning IV 8. Logic IV 9. Eidetic Memory IV 10. Instant Recall V 11. Learning V 12. Analytical Mind V
Things change a bit since you start with Analytical at IV, but it's basically that.

The only suggestion it gave me was adding eidetic memory 1-3 to make things faster...but once I added those to the plan it didn't give me any suggestions regarding the training order. Maybe I have to re-install or something. -_-

EVE-Mon only suggests additional learning skills if the WHOLE PLAN completion time becomes shorter after adding them.
If you have a very short plan, it will probably not suggest anything at all. If you add a lot of skills, like, say, two year's worth of various higher-level skills, it will almost certainly suggest at least L5 in all basic and L4 in all advanced learnings. _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Edited by: Akita T on 19/03/2007 10:40:00 Well, it's CCP's fault for a) not making Charisma a relevant attribute in the "big picture" and b) giving the Achura bloodline 3 base charisma and perfectly balanced attributes otherwise.
Too late to change any of that now, all they COULD do now is add a fourth bloodline to each race, with one bloodline for all non-Caldari having relatively balanced attributes and a base 3 (or even 2) charisma. No idea what the new Caldari bloodline should be like, Caldari look like they do have all "good" options covered already.
EDIT
WORD OF WARNING FOR THE GENUINE NEW PLAYERS MESSAGING ME IN-GAME
The post I made on the first page regarding trial account skilling path was NOT directed towards genuine new players. Genuine new players would have no chance of scrounging enough ISK to buy a set of +3 implants early on. Instead, that post was directed at people creating a secondary account.
For genuine new players, I would advise a Military - Special Forces career instead, same bloodline/ancestry/custom attributes (Caldari Achura Inventor, +3 per, then either +2 mem, +1 mem/+1 int or +2 int), as that would allow you to get decent learnings fast and also get you into a decent ship with the ability to fit it out acceptably in a rasonable timeframe, allowing you to make the needed ISK to continue your training. Also, stay away from +3 implants until you can afford them, but train Science L3, Cybernetics L1 and plug in a set of (ultra-cheap) +1 implants as soon as possible (and economically feasable). _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Charisma and Willpower is really good for a small fraction of the player base. For everyone else, yeah, ******* eh, inventor. All of my attributes are within three points of each other.

I know Akita. It's just so.. depressing, as it hurts diversity and the RP element. Quite obvious already, but I think we'll see more and more Khanid and Achura chars in the future.

I've updated the skill charts made by Tiberyya Za to take skill ranks into account, and, it turned out, there really is very little difference in skill points for new characters (a maximum of 23.932 points - or about 30 hours of training time for a starting player). As most older characters will have a LOT more skill points than the maximum of 809.850 points, and since the total amount of attribute points have not changed (although starting characters now start with more learning skills than they used to) I really cannot understand why older players would feel slighted. Different characters will be a lot better at different things at start, but if you chose mining and then later decided to try out combat you're no worse of than a soldier who wants to go mining (if we ignore ISKs required and such).
The revised data charts can be found here, while the pdf of the data can be found here.

By Engineering training you mean career/specialize in Industry/Engineer?
This isn't quite a genuine new char, since I have another char I think I've screwed up to begin with, first char in EVE, totally new to EVE and I love experimenting, so the trial has been basically for experiments until I delved deeper in the forums and read a few posts with advice for char creation. So, granted the "screwed" up char can provide some ISK to the new char, would he better be Industry/Engineer or Military/Special ?
Thanks in advance
PS - Oh, forgot to mention I intend on cross train for Gallente Ships, if that influences the choice in any way..

Not really sure of the point of all that, but I think you would have been better off following the SP multiplier, which would be 5.657 (square root of 32), rather than an arbitrary multiplier of 4.

I don't have the time to actually test that, but I believe that would not change the results, only the spreads in between.

It does change it. You would count one L3 the same as four L2's, except the L3 should count for 5.657 L2's. So the whole numerical comparison is off by a large amount.
