I'm very frustrated. The mission loot has been all shot to hell. It's nothing but trash now. I used to get some good loot before the latest round of patches, mission running was like an easter egg hunt. When I first started I used to lowsec loot rat and had a pretty good time of it. Sure, one had to worry about rats but there were always good odds of avoiding them. Don't jump into the center of the belt, fly with your eye on the system overview, keep a warp destination preloaded and be ready to warp out anytime someone shows up. The heat got a bit intense after my first month or two so I said to hell with lowsec for now, I'll build up some skills. Cuz I'm not adverse to the idea of a friendly bit of PVP, I just don't enjoy the pirate version of it which is "Let's the five of us get together and take turns gang-banging your ass and you can just sit there and take it." Figure it'd be a bit more fair if the pirate had as much to fear as I did.
So I'm enjoying the mission-running, keeps me having fun while I build up my skills. Because what everyone says about the game is you need skills and cash to do lowsec. Well, CCP went and nerfed the damn loot drops in missions. Great. So that just cuts my cashflow in half because I'd been finding some excellent drops. (Well, excellent by my budget and standards.) No more. It's all just trash.
"Oh,****goty n00b," the pirates say, "CCP wants more people to move lowsec. It's all risk/reward." Well, I put it to the test. I go lowsec ratting today. The drops are all rubbish and the pirates are as bastardly as ever. Some twink in a 200m p0wnmobile drops out of warp on top of me. I hit the autopilot but somehow he's able to scramble my warpstab (which had already been nerfed pitifully, thank you CCP.) So pop goes my ship.
Now I know what all the piratey folk are going to say. "Yaaaaar, this be our game and you be playing it as we see fit. Yaar." Yeah, sport. Whatever. The whole point in EVE is that there's supposed to be room for every type of player. I like the idea of the roles of combat pilot, miner, hauler, trader, industrialist, even pirate, but prison ***** doesn't seem that appealing.
So what's up with this, does CCP just enjoy the idea of people being griefed to no end? "Fly a better ship," the pirates will say. Sure. The kind of ship I'd need is probably worth twice my bankroll, not to mention I'm still short on the skills. And that'd also violate the dictum of "don't fly what you can't afford to lose." I insured the crap out of this ship and it was a small cruiser so I'm only out probably a million or two but that's not the point.
What'd make it fun? Ad hoc pirate sweeps, I suppose. Let's get together a carebear posse and do some pirate gangbanging of our own. Let's hear those smegsuckers start bleating about how it's not fair when their targets shoot back.

Edited by: Marcus TheMartin on 09/02/2007 02:12:41 Your mass generalizations of the player space pirates are weak to say the least.
If you don't like the loot try something else. there plenty of space for you to shoot innocent NPC's in just don't get mad when I defend them
Also your threats of forming a carebear army to **** off pirates will merely be met as a fun challenge for most but most likely you will become a run of the mill anti pirate corporation that smacks 23/7 in local when your 15 battleships come after a cruiser

There's more than enough pirates out there. If you guys are so turned on by PVP, you should have plenty of opponents.

There are plenty of people to shoot (just not in the most delicious system in the galaxy) but I'm just saying you have tons of options aside from mission running. If you want to avoid pvp so much just go to highsec and hump veld no one is stopping you

Never use autopilot to escape, manually warp to the object closest to your current alignment, or fly aligned to something. Honestly though, don't bother with stabs, fit damage and tank, then fight back if you find yourself trapped.

I've tried doing the alignment thing, still get popped. I had sufficient cap and shields to keep me going until warp kicked in. What I want to know is why it didn't. I had more than enough time to warp out based on previous observed drive performance. I think some webbing was used. Would that screw up the warp drive as well? I thought scramblers screwed it up and stabs countered that.

Regarding the complaint that gives the thread its title...
I think I'm getting your loot. I ran two level 3's two days ago and got 15 million in looted modules. And they were relatively short missions, too. No Angel Extravaganza (which recently got me 10 mil all on its own, although "Terzon's Stash" contained only a Heavy Neutron Blaster I and a Miner I. I begin to doubt Terzon's sense of value).

Your thread contributed nothing that wasn't allready posted.
There is a post on your part of the forum (the missions forum) talking about lvl 4 loot nerfs all you did was say my loot was nerfed and blamed the pirate community indirectly

Jolly just ignore that retard, he has nothing better to do than poke you.
To get things back on track... the pirate may have had a +2 scrambler with 7.5km range, or he may have had 2 warp disruptors. A warp core stab cancels out 1 point of scrambling, so if it was just 1 20km disruptor you should have been fine.
Webs: Webifiers slow you but dont affect turning but they slow your ship, this is a good thing if you have stabs, because you need to be going like 70% of your max speed to warp, so when you get webbed if you're going 50% speed (say 100m/s) and you get webbed 90%... your top speed becomes 20m/s and WOOSH off you go into warp...
Another tactic similar to this is to turn your after burner on and off as you warp... it will get you to your min warp speed in 10 seconds almost garunteed.
He could also have rammed you, this will knock you out of alignment to warp.
Your best bet is to make many safespots in an out of the way system and bounce off them if someone comes in, warping to different places all the time...
And low sec loot is ABSOLUTE CRAP. Dont waste your time on it.. i'd say head straight for 0.0, make an alt and get out there for a free look around, its also possible to get standings with local alliances so that your corp wont get killed on sight.
Low sec is the friggen ghetto of eve. Lock your doors, roll up the windows and dont stop for anything... 0.0 is a different story all together.

Thank you for the feedback. I assume that once you get in past the gateway systems to lowsec you can count on things being a little less populated? Are the maps a worthwhie guide? Because I figurd I'd be finding a quieter system if I went for one with a low number of kills. Didn't seem to work for me this time but, seeing as this is ghetto, that might not mean much.
There's some 0.0 maybe 5 or 6 jumps from my base systems. May try it out over the weekend. What sort of ships do you recommend for survivable 0.0 ratting? I'm looking for something that will let me run from anything that wants to kill me but not get destroyed by the rats.

I agree, a year ago I poped a worm BPC in Caldari complexes after about a week of grinding, and I've yet to get named anything from the complexes after nearly 3 weeks, and I'm already in 4/10. I don't want to have the ISK come super easy, but either delete the junk so I don't get my hopes up, or add some more carrots to all this hay.

once you get away from the "pipes" (majoy areas that people travel through - usally Autopilot ways) there's a lot less people. You can find system sin 0.0 or low sec where people haven't been in days. They're not the best, but at least no one will bother you.
Quote: Are the maps a worthwhie guide?
Kinda. I use http://www.fluidorbit.co.uk/ for systems and their sec status.

A Drake or a Raven. Set it up to shield tank and use heavy missiles / torps/cruise if you can. By "aligning" you shoudl also be travelling "in that direction" at 75% speed so that if someone warps into belt, you can literally hit "warp" and within 2-3 seconds you have warped away. Then make sure you have a series of safe spots in the system. warp to one of them and just warp around them non stop until they go away :) I am a corp thief. I just did the Level 3 Scope mission, all three of them, the save the reporter one. The drops there actually became quite nice. (nice by my standards, at least. Maybe a few million isk total for all three missions on top of bounties and pay.) Maybe they reset the table? Because just yesterday everything was still miserable. What's still maddening with the modules is that you can never tell by the name if it'll be worth something or not. You may not have ever seen it before and get real excited but then you check market and find out it's work 5000 if you're lucky. Gah! Then other unassuming modules are worth millions. Crazy.

Raven? Eep! Talk about flying something you can't afford to lose! But I take it since these are missile ships you can just get in the general range and then line up for a warp, not having to worry about maneuvering? But what do you do when you have to then move to make a loot pickup? I assume you're using tractors since battleships fly like cement pigs but you still have to turn in order to move close enough. For example, when I was popped I was about 100km out from the center of the belt. I saw some rats in the distance and so tried to angle for a triangular vector -- fly towards the rat but away from the center of the belt and then turn and close once past the midpoint -- that'd look a bit like a triangle. The idea is if the pirate comes into the middle of the belt, I can see him and hit warp before he targets me. When the pirate jumped in I was travelling under MWD and he was almost on top of me. I nixed the MWD when I hit autopilot since the MWD seems to conflict with warping, it has to be off before you align and warp. Maybe that put just enough delay in for him to get me?
Until i'm better at PVP, I'd sooner just avoid fights. I'm deadly against NPC's but that's about the same as bragging I can beat up small children. Seeing as dedicated pirates are focused on combat, their skills would be as buffed as the ships they fly. It would be stupid to even try fighting them without having similar skills and equipment. With all that being equal, then it bcomes a question of how well you play the game. :)
I guess it might be time to fire up an alt and go dying-er exploring around 0.0.

Judging by your sign from your last corporation hangar. If really you have got them in a mission, what was? You are to 1 in 10.000 that get the officer spawn in the blockade?

Edited by: Cybarite on 09/02/2007 07:34:34 there are lots of ways to deal with pirates:
1) don't leave highsec, alot of people never leave highsec, look at the starmap by population and you can see it, they trade, mine and do the industrial thing.
2) Join a lowsec anti pirate corp, there are lots of these, many of them being role players, they kill pirates and flying with them will grant you a greater degree of safety.
3) Go to nullsec, nullsec is lightly populated you'll need access to a station or outpost, but thats not as hard as it seems, and there are lots of corps and alliances out there that want more pilots flying for them, mine for one. If you do go to nullsec you want to be flying a BC or better, the rats there are too tough for cruisers unless your in a pack and even then it can get chancy.
4) Stand and fight, I've been beaten down by groups (3 hacs jumped me yesterday) I've also done ludicrous amounts of property damage, (some jakazz in a zealot jumped me last week and lost his 200m ISK ship to my 50m isk myrm) sucess in PvP can be enhanced by better equipment, and all things being equal the guy with better gear will probably win, but in eve PvP the prime factor is your own skill as a pilot, fast reaction, quick thinking, and calm focus are the keys, if you have those you'll allways give as good as you get in a fair fight.

I have been running lvl 3 galente missions this past week. I have now accumelated 7800m3 of crap loot from 25 missions (yes i count so i can keep track of storylines ). In those 25 missions i got 2 cargo expanders (3 and 9mill). On average i got a few modules that would sell for about 1mill pr mission.
Dont know how it used to be as i usealy just dropd all loot in my corp hangar, but it dosent seem too bad for me.
