DreamScape are organizing an event (we are 75 members) that might be of interest to you. Esp too new players of Eve I hope.
We will be fighting battleship vs battleship outside the station in Cist. We will also have group attacks on the CEOs with mainly frigates. So expect to see a lot of heavy gun shots and missiles exploding! It's always hard to know how many will be there but i hope for at least 10-20 members to be there and take part in it. A small free lottery might also make it with some ok loot, like 20% expanders for those in local etc. :)
This should hopefully get you a small taste of fighting. You can all sit and watch from a safe distance.
I recommend the patch 1254 since you can use "look at" and see the fire in more detail!
Exact date may change, Esp if the patch really commes out at the 15th. I just wanted to warn you a few days ahead. :)
I hope to see you there. Exact date and time will be posted here soon.
(You are welcome to take part in the event too. but to fight in cist you must be in the same corp as us or Concord will shoot us, so you must join us temporarily or permanently if you like)

Edited by: Chai N'Dorr on 12/12/2003 11:12:57 Please be so wise as to inform a GM so he can inform CCP to make some more computer power available for Cist.
[ed. btw, nice idea and show!]

Really. The do that?
I don't expect there to be an enourmous crowd. But it would of course be more fun the more people that are fighting and watching. I'm going to build/buy quite a bunch of cheap frigates that we can use. Perhaps one of the cheaper cruisers too, those are kind of expendable. :)
For our members I think the ceo vs ceo duel will be quite interesting, where they can put bets on the winner and get a nice prize. And perhaps even more fun "Attack the ceos", where all of them attack us in one go :)

Seems like a good idea. but I doubt you will get many noobs interested in frigates vs BS fights unless you can gaurantee that there will be no podding. Also, noobs have to work hard for their first ship. I remember it took me over a week to muster the cash for a probe and a lot longer to save up for a riffter. But that will be their choice.
Also, monday the 15th might not be the best day to host an event id there is a patch on that day. (As we have heard no different so far I can assume it is still on monday.) Several problems could arise that would make it hard to have an event like this. Such as an extended downtime, sudden unexpected lag (many players will log on to see what the fuss is about) or even problems with modules and crutial game play bugs etc..
In my oppinion it would be best to host it at the end of the week or next weekend. That would give ccp time to iron out all the kinks, give players time top addapt to any new issues/features and you time to addapt your event to the new game play. Also you might get less people to participate on a monday evening than you would on a weekend day.
Just food for thought. ------

Hi there. Yes I agree the 15th may not be the perfect day. But so many times before patch day has been moved forward, so it would not be so good if i moved it till thursday and we had patch day then.
So we will just see, if it's too much a mess we will just postphone it to the day after or so. I feel it's important to not get too close to Christmas.
*Also we will provide frigates to those that don't have any* So that should not be an issue.
Naturally we surely don't plan to have any podding. I don't expect too many others to take part in it, mostly corp. More are welcome too of course. Mostly we want to create a show for people to see. So a good crowd would be nice.

Ok I have just read the patch update list here on the forum and saw something that would make your event very interesting and also be a good test of a new system.
Regarding the part where the friggates take on the BS, there are some changes in the way target lock time is determined. The old timer is being done away with and all ships will have a "sensor resolution" that determines the strength of the lock sensor. The higher the bettet and the signiture radius of the ships will now come into play meaning that the smaller the radius, the harder the lock.
Battleships will have a low sensor res making it harder to lock frigs so they can survive longer. Should be interesting. ------

hehe. I'm not sure we will have frigs vs battleships. Perhaps. not sure they would have much of a chance. I'm gearing up with merlins though vs velator. /Phoibos

All the valuable ships will NOT use any missiles. The only ships that will use missiles are the frigs. And it wouldn't be that much of a problem if we loose one of those. The idea is to show some new players some fighting and well fd-mlj might not be the best place for this. /Phoibos

Well the Dream event went very good. Up to 30 persons where fighting or watching the duels. The team fights with frigates were quite chaotic but fun. The battleship duels were interesting too. The setup is extremely important with bs.
Also the local lottery should have made people happy I hope. One vexor was the grand price but also some rare shields and guns :)

I have one picture up on corp site, and more will come soon. The local speakers took some extra juicy pictures of the action that we who where involved with the fightings just didn't have time to do. :)

To you maybe but to a player who has only been in Eve a few days they are very worthwhile. I can well remember getting my first decent loot drop of a 20% cargo expander after a couple of days of playing and being absolutely thrilled.
Anyway the real prize was the opportunity to join Dreamscape

Haha. well the prizes are only for new players. I think a cruiser should be ok for someone to get in the beginning. You really think we should be giving away battleships to players who played for 2 days?
That wasn't the point of the event really. Fighting was the general point. If we have some bigger competitions aimed at more experienced players perhaps there could be bigger prizes.
