Ok guys let's calm down. I will be the first to admit that if the rumours are true it's probably the end of the line for me and my corp mates in EVE. That being said why don't we all wait to see what will happen instead of freaking about what might happen.
Maybe everybody won't need to join one of the giant corps to have a shot at new stuff. Maybe mining dosen't get hit too hard. Miners should be ok with being nerfed a little because everyone else has been.
Point is nobody know how it's going to shake out until it happens. So relax.

DM, i've seen several time TomB stating on irc that these changes would make it into castor release.
And zarthan, you have no clue, pirates will still camp .4 systems.

A number of things are making 'into' the castor patch, including mobile refineries, these changes, a load of techII stuff, new agents, new ships, etc.
But, like mobo refineries, I very much doubt these changes will be 'switched on' immediately. Mobile refineries have been on chaos for weeks, and are going to be 'in' castor, but they will not be available for some time, until balance issues can be dealt with.
I really don't think they'd put these changes on the live server with barely two weeks of testing, especially considering the feedback they're getting.
And yes, pirates will still camp 0.4 systems. If these changes are heading in the direction I think they are, then 0.4 miners are going to be among the first targets. Goodbye magnetic field realignment, hello ransom demands. .

Edited by: Ana Khouri on 12/12/2003 16:38:06 Edit: Er.. Nevermind, it will only be possible in 0.0. They removed the nowarp zones in secure (aka 0.1 - 1.0) space.
Still, this means that blockades in 0.0 space will be 100% foolproof, expect a stronger force warps in.
The "new" JIP camping:
Background:
All gates now have a 20k no-warp zone around them - this disables instawarp BM, too. You will now stop warping at 20k and will jump 2.5k from a gate. When using a gate you will now jump to the gate in the next system, you will appear around 12k from that gate.
Which means you will have around 8-10k to travel before you can warp away (or jump to the previous system). With the AB/MWD nerfs this will take quite some time - a scorp with a large MWD has a top speed of 700ms. Indies will crawl at 200-300 ms.
Since the gate scramble your target for you you don't need to place ships within the sentries range to do that. So, pirates can camp in 0.4-0.1 simply by placing some LR BS (tachyons or 1400s most likely) outside the sentrys range (50k, right?) with 2-3 sensor boosters and kill ships as soon as they appear.
Indys will have zero chance of survival, BS and cruisers could *perhaps* make it if they use 2 MWDs. And as a nice bonus the camping pirates will have *plenty* of time to flee should a hunter force warp in, since they will be 40-60 km away from any point where those will warp in.
And in 0.0 they can use besides the ganking LR ships frigs near the gate to web incoming victims, enabling them to kill everything which comes through, even if it is using multiple MWDs (as long as the force isn't stronger than them).

With the numbers going down all the time... and now with the nerfs basically killing days/weeks of training... I am curious on how many will/are leaning towards leaving EVE. Why spend my hard earned jack on a game that ends up having only a few hundred peeps online?
Again, it was a simple question.... dunno why you got your panties in a wad....

Quote: Could someone post a link to the thread that states that the new targetting/pvp/JIP/AB/MWD systems are going to hit the server with castor?
AFAIK, they are not, they've only been in testing for two weeks.
as for people cancelling accounts based on forum rumours of what people think might make it into the next patch... good. Anyone that stupid should probably stop using computers.
so I'd like the link please, before I call shenannigans on this whole thread.

Quote: The new gate system is stupid. Even if you want to turn back and go through the gate you came from, you have 8km to travel while BS's take pot shots at you. forget about travelling if you are in a hauler. What a joke! This is worse than JIP camping. At least with JIP camping I was warping out before being hit. So now, you turn on your MWD to get to gate and your cap is gone as well. Nice job freaks.

(incidentally, it's 42nd post in the thread, which is definitely a proof 'tis the correct answer. :s

Well damn......If these rumors are tr00 this sux, but im not one to be too judgemental, however I am 9 days from finishing Gallente Indy lv 5. If these changes do take place I can sense myself buying new mk5's every week.

I'm a little worried about tech II, and the implications for players like me who can't get into empire space/to agents, but overall I'm super excited about the changes, especially after testing them on chaos.

Damn straight.
Carry some nice expanders, please.
I've yet to lose a bs in Eve, but given these changes I give my Raven a few days at most.
But who cares!

You all missed the Blue Print Nerf. No more idenfinite bps....
I feel the more complex the game the more people will play. Sheeze why did you start playing eve anyway. This game breaks so many standards in online games its great.
I understand its a beginning to what games will be like. Wait till the market comes in. Social skills will be here and change major aspects of the game.
What is funny is that if you think about this game its more real life than many want. Battle forces in real life is not two battle ships... you have all sort of support ships.
Consider the a/b and MWD adjustment like what they do in NASCAR. Sure you can go super fast but realisticly there should be restraint. When you mwd to a gate now you bounce before you jump. Soo they are reducing the speed to allow safe travel. --------------------------
Garsh ma it soo cool killing people in there space thingies |

Guys I just wanted to say that Monday might _not_ tell. These changes are so large so it will likely take quite some time for all of us to figure out what the true benefits and negative sides are. But give the devs a break please, changes sound great.
But perhaps you thought it was fun to fly at 114000km/2 with 3 mwd? /Phoibos

Just one line:
CCP can prepare for a huge drop in players (ie: loose much income in $$ ÇÇ), when implementing the non-empire-BS-mining, JIP feature, change in mwd's and afterburners with the implementation of the patch this Monday! |

Well I love the game, even after some of the terible chaos from the patches over the last 6 months or so, but If travel times get realy big, then I cant see me wanting to do all that extra traveling, agent missions would for me, be just to painfull, I cant say I will, but it sounds like it could be the end for me in this grate game.
Time will tell
BUT THERE AGAIN HMMM TEC 2 ==================================================
