Edited by: Dekiri on 10/02/2007 12:33:52 The game is tainted? I think not really. If really the community bands up together and punishes BoB for this (not everyone in BoB is guilty here i wish to state that, but the directors and the leadership sure are for the most part) then even the image of eve as a game can be restored throughout the internet. No matter if CCP takes more action against all that stuff or not.
If the coalition of former enemies (and as soon as it is over enemies again)manages to remove BoB as an entity from the game this might make for some nice news again.
I am not saying BoB is already lost, because there will be some really heavy fighting happening before anything is decided and we will probably see alliances change sides and all that stuff, but overall I am very confident that this can be a possible outcome.
The fact that so many alliances and corps that actualyl hate each other with a great passion band up against imbalance and the strongest alliance in game shows that the community and the game is far from broken.
I hope everyone is having fun in the next months

Ganking BoB in a huge blob is not a cleansing. For starters, the average BoB pilot has nothing to do with any of this (and that goes double for LV, FIX and all the rest).
Morever, many of those involved in this "cleansing" have no business throwing stones at anyone. Goonfleet perpetrated a mass violation of the EULA with their Eve client portrait hack. Red Alliance is widely known for exploiting complexes, racking in 10s if not 100s of billions. AAA has become synonomous with the tactic of setting up mass log-in and log-off traps, which might be technically legal but is certainly of questionable morality.
There is no "cleansing". This is just an opportunity for some to exploit a general indignation at the misbehavior of a few, both to hide their own sins and to gain tactical advantage in a game.
By all means fight BoB, but don't kid yourselves into thinking any "cleansing" is involved. Only CCP can do that, by monitoring the behavior of ALL Eve players who violate the EULA, and of course setting a standard themselves.

Exactly.
I highly doubt that, even if somehow this developer incident was a large conspiracy in the BoB leadership, more than a few people knew about it.
You cannot blame an entire alliance for one or a few people cheating, and then claim you're "cleansing" the game by trying to remove that alliance from the map.
Now attacking BoB? Perfectly fine; they need a hard fight these days. The ASCN war didn't give them much of a challenge I don't think. So bring it to them and see if they can take it. I'll be watching, for one.

I think that cheating, however it is done, is immoral.
I also think that justifying cheating in any way should be bannable. Cheating is cheating is cheating, whether you're exploiting bugged complexes, hacking the EVE client, or spawning BPOs for your alliancemates.

The following was said by a friend and I believe sums up the situation:
Quote:
I have no trust for CCP in this matter now.
They tried to ignore it.
They banned Kugu's 5 accounts.
They let Molle get away unbanned with posting his RL details.
They let Dianabolic get away unbanned with RL harrassment.
They tried to say the only issues were an event where they couldn't prove or deny the accusations now, plus the revealing of dev characters - so can we put this behind us now please.
Now they have a sacrificial goat and the admission of a fraudulent set of mostly third string bpo's - conveniently the only ones for which there is (yet) public evidence. And expect us to believe that this is it and there's nothing else fishy been going on with BoB, LV or elsewhere?
It sucks.
It a couple of weeks everything will be swept under the rug and people will have to pretend it never happened. I for one am disgusted but I'm moving on, as wrong and immoral as I find it is, I won't waste my precious time caring about cheating bastards.

CCP has a habit of not following their own rules which annoys the heck out of me.
By their own rules, quite a large portion of Red Alliance should be banned for complex exploiting. Never happened. They didn't even get a tempban, a WARNING, or a slap on the wrist!
By their own rules, a portion of Goonfleet should have been banned, or at least tempbanned for their portrait hack. Never happened.
By their own rules, a portion of some of the larger alliances should be banned for ISK selling. There has been posted evidence of some of their boards having a section used for ISK selling and trading for RL items. They don't care.
Logging out of bubbles and the like is an obvious bug, but not only do they not even chastise those doing it, but they're not even bothering to fix it even when its an obvious problem.
I don't trust CCP to do much of anything anymore. They care more about their subscription numbers than following their own rules. They don't care if someone cheats as long as they can sweep it under the rug afterwards and try to make everyone forget about it.

Edited by: Halada on 10/02/2007 13:20:12 I agree yelling at the whole of BoB/LV/AAA/Red doesn't change anything. I mean, the average player has nothing to do with it.
What disgusts me as Shikari said is their attempt to cover it up, then everyone called the bull on it, then they explained there was indeed something BUT something trivial...It's fishy, smelly, and weird.
Player subscriptions = $$$, I'm quite sure AT LEAST 50% of the player base doesn't read forums and has no idea what the hell even happened. CCP doesn't care, this thing will eventually be forgotten (much like that evolution video trailer I remember watching over a year ago with a "COMING SOON(tm)" tag

BoB made the first move going after RA/goon.
Stop acting like everyone actually had the balls to step-up in the first place when no one moved until BoB made the decision for them.
Oh well, let's just forget that and get back to calling them BoD because damn, this one small incident has ruined the game for so many people obviously who claim they're gonna quit but really, just won't. Too bad.

QTF And about all this parania going on the forums and the accusations vs bob or any other alliance here is my point.
Months ago an ugly bug discovered (8/10 plexes any1?) Many major alliances were involved in this and made billions of isk per month. Some1 got banned? The isk returned? Some assets deleted? Nothing from the above happened. Wrong or false dont realy know. The fact is nothing happened.
Now the a major part of the community is accusing bob and wants them disband or get banned or whatever, for (as I see it) much minor issues.
Why this parania broke up, who is abusing it, who is manipulationg ppls mind and use the propaganda for his own favor, dont realy know.
These are pesonal thoughts and opinions and XPACT or GODS have nothing to do with my post here ----------------------------------

**** happens , sometimes good **** , sometimes bad ****.
You gotta accept the good with the bad and not read conspiracies into everything.
I am disgusted that a CCP employee used his privileged position to do what he did , but that happened and has been dealt with internally by CCP (whether to your satisfaction or not its over with)
To tar an entire group of people with the same brush as a corrupt employee is IMO a bit OTT.
I agree to some extent with the quoted post above, in that a lot of trust in CCP has been lost , time should resolve that but also CCP ensuring that this cannot and will not happen again.

You are making it look as if those where on the same level. They're not! It is one thing to use cheats that are availiable to everyone and to have dev help/infos. While i think ANY kind of cheating hacking and so on should be banned and taken care of with a huge club, one of these things is a lot worse then others tbh.
The trust in CCP is of course very low currently, but i still think they could do a lot to improve it by taking actions according to their OWN rules.
Point aside i think the community punishing those who obviously tolerated being "helped" is a really good thing. That includes those who side with those entities of course.
BoB members fault? No i don't think so.. BoB leadership? YES

according to your words half of eve population, maybe more, has to be banned or punished.
EDIT: Account sharing and bought/accuired accs are common on most corps and alliances. Ppl who dont petition them for whatever reason, should get banned for helping those who are doing it.

c'mon people lets get real. We all know that this war isnt about the cheater and giving bob and unfair advantage and wanting to punish them for that. This has been brewing for quite a long time and only now are all the other alliances in a position where they feel it can be done. Edited by: SamuraiJack on 10/02/2007 13:41:27 Its just showing that there is a group of players in EvE that are :
a) privilaged b) helped by CCP c) dont give a damn for the regular EvE player.
Its not just BoB. Bob are going to take a massive hit over this.
Pure and simple CCP allowed the cheating, exploiting and griefing to escalate to a level it never should have reached. Now they are reaping the consquences.
The obvious leaks in CCP that allowed people to interfer and generally abuse the events. The open abuse of bugs/exploits. The two tier system. Us poor players trying to survive eve... and those that knew all the nooks and crannies and abused every last one to win.
It was getting to the point where regular players were looking to exploit just to try to stay in the race. That is bad. Once your playerbase gets to that point you have to say its a black day.
So now we just have to wonder how long this will play out. If justice will ever be done... and if the playing field will be leveled.
At least its out there... well some of it. I'm pretty sure that there those in bob who ridiculed others are now wondering just what their leaders did... and are wondering if they want to be part of it.
Its hard when you put so much effort in and find its tainted or wasted. Those who bob blew away are understanderbly ****ed. Those in bob who didnt know are feeling crap from looking like cheats and liers.
Problem is... those in the know are proberbly still laughing and winning. CCP needs to stamp that out or EvE will be the laughing stock of MMORPGs.

Completely wrong.
It was clearly marked as a violation of the EULA; they even cited which section of the EULA was at issue. The problem was that it wasn't readily detectable and it was certainly handy functionality, so rather than let one group sit with a clear but illegal advantage, they rolled it in.
If Goonfleet had had a WTZ hack pre-Kali, would you now be arguing that THAT was legal? It's a silly argument.
Even so, Goonfleet's hack STILL went beyond what people have now, as the picture shows. And it was widely distributed throughout the alliance, which in some ways is worse than what BoB has done. The individual crime isn't as bad I guess, but the scale of it was depressingly large.
Glass houses, Goons, glass houses. It's fun to watch the people who were all over the boards killing the Goons for this back then now making excuses for them. Politics will turn some people upside down I guess.
But all the righteous indignation from the Goons and their friends has been kind of a fun side show, so there's that. Any time hypocrisy is paraded around so blatantly, a good time is had by all.

Last I checked, I'm not defending anyone in this matter. I actually even agreed on the "official" thread that T20 needs to be sacked, any other decision would not make sense for me from a business POV.
Is this the tip of the iceberg? I don't know. Is this very convenient for the big bunch of BoB haters? Yes, it is.
For all we know, one dev who had a character in RKK spawned some BPOs and gave them to the corp. Crappy BPOs at that, to be frank, I've got a bit of an idea of the T2 BPO collection of BoB and these particular BPOs probably didn't really do much for their production.
Heck, I'm not even sure if anyone but T20 knew he was cheating. People get BPO offers all the time, we have people join the MC with a bunch of BPOs, that's all pretty normal.
Trying to demonize a whole alliance and whoever is allied or with them, hired by them in-game or trying to have a discussion that might not have the same ideas as you is a whole different matter though.
We're not siding with cheaters. There's a long standing relationship between the two entities, MC and BoB and we know that one of their members is a cheating git.
You, sir, are siding with RA, known exploiters of logoffski, known for abusing the complexes when they were bugged and pretty good leads to some of them selling ISK on e-bay. Oh, they also share accounts, lots.
You, sir, are siding with CLS, one of their senior directors having been involved with huge amounts of ISK selling. Other CLS directors knew about this and he had to promise CYVOK not to do it again before he was let in.
You, sir, are siding with D2, known to have a cyno-net, just like BoB, they share accounts too. Their more senior directors know about Omist corps in XETIC that were involved in exploiting chainspawns and selling ISK on e-bay.
Goons logoffski all the time.
The evidence for all my claims is just as circumstantial as any evidence for more cheating by more BoB members. :)
How does it feel to side with cheaters? -

These are pesonal thoughts and opinions and XPACT or GODS have nothing to do with my post here
Easy explanation: They disliked/hated BoB already before and now they are really happy that they can believe that BoB is totally corrupt and that their success is based mainly on cheating. 'Don't question us ! We are the knights of the good with the god-given task to erradicate the evil named BoB now !'
