Sounds like a great idea to me but would we have to check each and evry station in the system to see what each shop has ? or would there be like a shop browser so we could see what the solar system has to offer for shops and such...

maybe the shops should even be classed by the type of merchanidse they sell...

Still sounds like a great idea to me either way Very Happy

IdeaAdvertising---

Evemail (annoying though) or, perhaps, paying a sum of money to have it placed on bilboards. Like, where you read the news, there is a spot for ads from corperations, and their shops. Man, I'm good. Ok, I'm ready to be critisized. I can take it.

I'd like to see this.

If I'm remembering correctly, weren't they also eventually adding "Brand name" products?
If so, then you could potentially open a chain of stores, sell brand name products, as well as rare/looted items.

Perhaps a function such as the trade routes option on the market screen could be adapted into a commodity browser for shops. I doubt it would be too challenging, Add a filter that would allow you to search for an commodity/item via shops in system,constellation,region. Much like the market uses now. Advertising could be added to the Bulletin boards at gates in Empire space, and destroyable and anchorable bulletin boards could perhaps be bought as well. The competition could sabotage your ads ;)

Evemail could be an option. People advertise "manually" now for things such as the BIG lottery. Perhaps a function could be integrated into the Eve-mail system to allow for this sort of thing. However to avoid an utter abundance of spam, perhaps it should cost a company a distribution fee that is a little more drastic than 100 isk per evemail. Also they Concord could institute "postal laws" stating that only 1 advertisement from a corporation per week or per two weeks.

That way you could have advertisements come in weekly or bi-weekly and have corporations pay a fee of perhaps 10 million isk for an evemail to all current occupants of a region of space.
I could see it being annoying.. but I can see it working as well if properly implemented.

The whole idea needs thought, but is generally a quality idea.

Shops for the client are not so cool, I don't find it too exciting to check 30 vendors to buy a carrier when I can find it in contract system and compare prices instantly. However;

Shop could be integrated with the two current systems of trade - market and contracts. It would work really amazingly this way, allowing production and trade corps to fill local (out-of-jita) markets in easy and comfortable way. It would surely be good for markets outside Jita.

I imagine shop as a kind of hangar, where I put items for sale. This way I can easily add items to stacks for sale.
For each item type, I can configure sales strategy, including;
-do we sell this item at all and for what price.
-current stack of update stack when I put more items of this kind?
-discounts in shop for people with positive standings.
-restrictions in shop, if You do not want to sell to people with negative or neutral standings.
-advertising in shop - have a "welcome page" in each shop for this.
-selling on market - shop would automatically put sell offer or market with normal mechanics and renew it if it sold out. Only applies to selling marketable, repackaged, stackable items. Normal costs and taxes apply. Discounts and restrictions do not apply because they do not fit current market system, so if You want to restrict sales, sorry no open market. In transaction history, Your clients should view "<corp name> show" - this will attract clients inside Your shop if they find out they buy many usefull items from it.
-selling on contract system - while there are items in shop hangar, they are automatically put in contract system if this option is selected. Normal costs apply. This can be used even for selling fully fitted ships if You remember to put identically fited ships to renew reseves.

Shop could be payed for by;
-hangar size (so You pay more if You sell capitals then if You sold insignias and You pay more i You want to have biiig reserves)
-numer of "market branches" in sales
It would be cheapest and most comfortable way to both - selling 60 types of T1 ammo and fitted capital ships.
Currently, not many people have enough patience to sell all types of ammo or low end modules outside trade hubs because its lots of clicking for a few thousand isk income. With a shop, having all kinds of ammo is easy to manage and will atract people to my shop.

I agree with Ellaine.

Shops like originally proposed would be very cumbersome to use. Only very few people would be willing to sift through dozens of shops on every station in order to maybe find a better deal. Only returning customers would not have that disadvantage but for most things in EVE, players are much more interested in saving money than in going to the same shop as last time...

If anything, then upgrade the current markets...

Yes, it is sort of like the stores in SWG, which were annoying. It was very annoying running between stores to try and find anything worth buying and comparing prices was nearly impossible.

A browser for the shops in EVE could help, but then how is it different from the market?

So... how exactly is your shops idea better than the current system? If you have a high enough marketing skill, anyone in the current region can see what you have for sale, while if you're a buyer, you can instantly find a price/distance combination that suits your needs.

Your idea would changhe it so one would have to jump from station to station to find a good price, and would make it harder for sellers to advertise their goods...

Now, if you could sell items here that's legality was questionable, maybe it would be a decent idea.

I like the idea of shops.

I think it could be usefull for selling big stocks of items, that are not listet on market or are not fun to sell per contract, like bpc or so.
You just select a price for maybe raven BPO (bpc) and every BPC in the Shop Storage can be buyed, withoud setting a contract, in the shop.

Another addon for this idea could be, that you have brookers there, that watch your normal-market-orders and adept the prices every hour or so.

As originally proposed it is a bit hard to use but it has it's good points and bad points.

1. A shop can be placed in any station, a station has only so many shop spots and would word more or less as corp offices etc when ambulation comes arround.
2. A shop shop can only be rented by corperations in a whole, shop managers can be selected to manage the shop.
3. A shop would effectively be a small market only without the item restrictions, but then again you should only be able to view it's contents when in the same constalation, buy only when in the station.
4. Restriction could be set to only sell to people with x standing towards corp/alliance.

This way in empire shops will be very annoying and more or less useless to use, unless it is a shop for item selling within corp or w/e, more for private use of smaller groups of people.

In 0.0 this would be awesome as you can basicly have a shop for cap ships, normal ships, modules of all sorts, ammo and manage it quite easily and restrict it to alliance only or friendlies only.

A shop could be very useful and powerful tool and client friendly too.

Consider this mechanics;
You have "shelves" in shop. Shelve is a special configurable container. There are 2 types - market and contract "shelves".

You can put one stackable item type into a market shelve. The shop automagically puts a sell order of size and price set by you in container configuration. When all items are bought, shop automatically sets a new order as long as it has item inside. This would work like NPC trade orders that are renewed when depleted. It might include some simple tools for price wars like "sell as high as possible as long as its cheapest in station but no more then 500 isk and no less then 300 isk" with automatic hourly update.

In contract shelve, You can put about anything that could be contracted. You configure a generic contract for this container, and its automatically created from every item stack inside - up to set number (normaly - 1) of active orders. Example - you sell BPC sets, like - 10x5run capital drone bay BPCs for a single Thanatos. You put sets in 120 containers, or shuttles, and then into a contract shelve. When someone buys BPC set or contract expires, a new contract is automatically set.

Both shelves would also be accessible for clients directly in shop.

Why would shops have to be any different than stations? Just browse an overview and you'll get all the shops listed there, that wants to be listed. Then go collect what you've bought and once there physically you might see something on display/sale you didn't think of and end up buying more on site.
