Why is Eve causing graphics cards to overheat recently?
I'm totally convinced like many people that some recent changes to Eve (either the first or second major patches after the Revelations release) have been causing graphics cards to overheat. I've been having problems myself and I fixed them (after hours of tryng software solutions!) by setting up a big fan mounted on a stack of books which blows cool air on my laptop! I've been playing Eve for over a year now on this laptop without a problem and now all of sudden I'm getting serious overheating issues. If the graphics had been improved at all I might be ok with this, but they look exactly the same. I'm getting the same fps and all the textures look the same. So why just now is Eve making everything overheat?
Players: If you are experiencing random crashing, reboots, reduced fps or scrambled in-game graphics, your system is likely overheating. Try everything you can think of to cool down your system.
CCP: any ideas? fix please? My hands get cold now while I'm playing eve because of the huge fan I have to set blowing on my laptop :(

Does anyone have a better fix for this than my huge fan, that does not involve spending loads of money on upgrading my system?

Exactly my problem! BSOD 3 times in 30 minutes once I played for long enough, fixed the problem by putting in an extra case fan blowing right on my card. Still overheats when I play for a long time though.

I was wondering why I've been having this issue, it seems to be since the most recent patch.
I thought it was because I just moved to a new case, but if anything this case has WAY more cooling than my last. (2x 120cm fans vs. a single 80cm)
It really sucks. I get scrambled graphics probably once a day.

ever since second major patch on rev ive been seeing more and more artifacts on the screen. Really sucks cause my graphics card is like a month old.

I never had one single problem with eve, on a year old computer. I don't use latest drivers and never reinstall windows or eve.

ahh my laptops been overheating recently, but ive been blaiming it on the laptop, i thought i wasnt venting it well, but its just started happening recently. Eve would explain it, never even thought to check, i've never had problems with eve in the past.
Come to think of it the crashes have defo been happening while playing eve.

1. I tried every fix. Nothing work
2. I must agree it is a overheating issue with my video card. My card is 3 months old and very clean. I will try the fan trick tonight and see if that helps

If you are using a laptop, don't jump to concluding it is eve. I had been experiencing overheating issues until I actually took mine fully apart and cleaned out the internal fans. Eve started to run magically again. Laptops have a lot of hard to access cooling fans which can really get clogged up over a surprisingly short period of time. Canisters of compressed air wont help much.

EVE works your CPU hard, not the graphics card. EVE makes little use of the graphics card, and you'll get more performance boosts from buying a better processor than actually getting a better graphics card.
If EVE is causing your system to overheat, then you don't have adequate cooling. I suggest you buy some fans, or seek out a better case so your system is cooled properly.
If your rig can't cope with 100% CPU/GPU use for, lets say, 12 hours - then you really, really need to think about a better cooling solution (for your case, processor, and graphics card).
The reason Laptops have issues is because they're honestly not meant for gaming, and are not meant for constant 100% CPU/GPU usage over a long period of time. They get very hot, and have poor cooling, and so tend to overheat quite regularly (you might find that it gets very, very hot if you put it on your lap).
Desktops are no different. Older machines tend to have rubbish cases, with no side vent, and only rely on the PSU (power supply unit) for removing the hot air from the case (my parents computer did this and crashed regularly when trying to run The Sims 2).
1) Make sure your case is ventilated properly (Front/Side intakes, and Top/Rear outakes - EXCLUDING the PSU as a fan). You need atleast one fan at the Front/Side blowing cool air over your system, and one on the Top/Rear sucking out hot air - Circulation is key.
2) Make sure your heatsinks and fans aren't clogged up with dust. My old X1800XT was overheating to 100c+ because of dust on the rear of the heatsink - it couldnt blow air over the heatsink and out the rear.
3) Make sure your system can take being used at 100% CPU/GPU usage for a long period of time. Run benchmarks on a continous loop (3D Mark 05/06 is quite a good pixel-jerker). If your machine is still standing, running stable, without artifacts after 6-12 hours (or even longer if you can manage it). Your system is good enough to run games.
