Edited by: Ange1 on 12/02/2007 02:37:29 I don't know if people care to get away from BoB related news, but perhaps this will be of an interesting read to people who like a good story of a Battle that took place. Here in this battle, I almost lost my Carrier, but just managed to survive with the help of my trusty Nyx friend Ign0raMus.
It all started quite innocently and perhaps somewhat embarrasingly. We were in a complex you see (yes, us evil mean pirates were carebearing), one of these exploration or cosmos ones. I had a Damnation with fully skilled amoured gang mods on doing the tanking and whatnot. I also am piloting a Thanatos Carrier thats cloaked in system. The Nyx is sitting at the entrance to the complex, being unable to go in itself. During this time, traffic goes in and out, mostly from the PURE alliance.
Then just as we're nearing the end of the complex, local spikes up to about 30+ and a Helios decloaked next to the Nyx. The Nyx warped out as a large PURE fleet came in. Once the Nyx was safe, we examined the situation and decided to engage, so the Nyx warped back into the plex and landed smack in the middle of the enemy fleet which was comprised mostly of Battleships and heavy support.
After smartbombs had taken care of many smaller ships and pods, and waiting to see if any Cyno's came up, I decided I would warp my Carrier in to assist the Nyx in engaging the enemy fleet. I enter the warp tunnel and as I do, a Cyno pops up on our screens.
Oh dear...
My Thanatos lands right in the middle of their fleet next to the Nyx and I proceed to try and get out. I am of course quickly warp scrambled, so I began to align somewhere, deployed my Fighters and prepared for a fight to the death. Ign0 decided to stay in the field until my Carrier was rescued or destroyed. Then about 3 Dreadnoughts and a Carrier came in and proceeded to engage.
Over the next 10 minutes, a hard battle was fought as both Nyx and Thanatos desperately tried to kill everything that was scrambling me. My armour was dropping rapidly under the onslaught of such firepower. A few enemy pilots that died, jumped out briefly only to come back in new ships 5 minutes later. I had that sinking feeling this would be my first Carrier loss, but for some reason was more irked by the possibility my pimped out Myrmidon inside the Carrier would also be lost
As the enemy fleet was slowly thinned out, explosion after explosion signalling the death of all the support ships, my health dipped into structure. I was calling out targets to the Nyx based on what I thought was scrambling me. I managed to get out of range of a scrambling Dread and the final ship scrambling me was destroyed. With joyous rapture, I watched my Carrier warp off to a safe with merely 3000 structure damage taken.
The Nyx stayed in for a while to finish up the remains of their fleet, but we were taking heavy Fighter losses and the Nyx finally withdrew. After 10 mins of examining the situation, 2 of the Capitals warped/jumped out that we saw and some of their people started to leave. I warily decide to commit my Carrier to combat again and we warp both Nyx and Thanatos in to engage again. We caught a Moros but we believe it had smartbombs and having already lost some dozen fighters with the rest in armour or structure, we didn't feel we had enough to kill it before we lost all our Fighters. So we killed any remaining support and let the Dread go. The PURE fleet then fully withdrew after this.
The battle ended with over 20 Fighters lost and PURE losses totaled to 27 ships and 5 pods. Details can be found on our killboard. We believe PURE managed to recover a fair amount of their loot before we engaged the 2nd time.
This for me has been one of the most intense Battles I've been involved in recent memory. I would like to give full props to PURE for giving it a really good go with us, I really enjoyed it, even though I was ****ting myself the entire time

Originally by: Baun Sonuds fun. Did you manage to stay close enough to the Nyx that its smartbombs would be able to clear off tacklers with 20km scrams? Otherwise how did you clear all of the tacklers.
It was a close range fleet, I think most of their ships had scramblers. I was simply moving away from the Capitals while our Fighters just took each ship down one by one. By the time I finally warped out, there was not very much left of their main fleet, but it was the Dreads that were killing me by that point.
I would like to add and highlight a very annoying thing. My Damnation which I mentioned earlier has all the armoured gang mods on, and whilst the resistance bonus and extra 15% armour hp probably saved the life of my Carrier, the fact that the other two gang mods have no effect on Capital Repairers whatsoever would've been TREMENDOUSLY useful in an engagement such as this. A mini siege-mode of sorts.

Originally by: Dawn Princess Sounds like a good fight, though again just goes to show how insanely overpowered MS are.
Are you kidding? The Mothership lost half its Fighters (a good 400mils worth) and I almost died. Mothership is not overpowered when it has no Fighters left to shoot with

Don't start *****ing at each other in my thread
I'm curious though, you were clearly there to get the Nyx. Did you know my Carrier was in system and if so expect me to even warp it in the middle of you?

Edited by: Ange1 on 13/02/2007 02:18:59 Alas, although I have recently bought a top specced gaming machine and can run Fraps with no slowdown at all, I have found it makes my EVE client unstable and such instability caused me to lose a Raven kill on a gate. As I lost my connection, the web on the Raven was gone and he jumped through in structure and warped off
As such I don't use Fraps anymore, so I'm afraid I did not fraps it and I'm kicking myself for not taking any screenshots. Though do bear in mind I was under a lot of stress at the time
Perhaps one of our adversaries took some screenshots or Fraps?

I don't suppose one of you PURE guys want to do a write-up from your perspective of the Battle? Wouldn't mind seeing what happened on the other side

Ours is basically fitted as a mobile space fortress capable of doing almost anything it wants without support with officer scrambling, nossing and webbing. Alliances may prefer to use it as a large mobile logistical base without such powerful modules fitted. I prefer our method myself
