Edited by: Ange1 on 12/02/2007 02:37:29 I don't know if people care to get away from BoB related news, but perhaps this will be of an interesting read to people who like a good story of a Battle that took place. Here in this battle, I almost lost my Carrier, but just managed to survive with the help of my trusty Nyx friend Ign0raMus.
It all started quite innocently and perhaps somewhat embarrasingly. We were in a complex you see (yes, us evil mean pirates were carebearing), one of these exploration or cosmos ones. I had a Damnation with fully skilled amoured gang mods on doing the tanking and whatnot. I also am piloting a Thanatos Carrier thats cloaked in system. The Nyx is sitting at the entrance to the complex, being unable to go in itself. During this time, traffic goes in and out, mostly from the PURE alliance.
Then just as we're nearing the end of the complex, local spikes up to about 30+ and a Helios decloaked next to the Nyx. The Nyx warped out as a large PURE fleet came in. Once the Nyx was safe, we examined the situation and decided to engage, so the Nyx warped back into the plex and landed smack in the middle of the enemy fleet which was comprised mostly of Battleships and heavy support.
After smartbombs had taken care of many smaller ships and pods, and waiting to see if any Cyno's came up, I decided I would warp my Carrier in to assist the Nyx in engaging the enemy fleet. I enter the warp tunnel and as I do, a Cyno pops up on our screens.
Oh dear...
My Thanatos lands right in the middle of their fleet next to the Nyx and I proceed to try and get out. I am of course quickly warp scrambled, so I began to align somewhere, deployed my Fighters and prepared for a fight to the death. Ign0 decided to stay in the field until my Carrier was rescued or destroyed. Then about 3 Dreadnoughts and a Carrier came in and proceeded to engage.
Over the next 10 minutes, a hard battle was fought as both Nyx and Thanatos desperately tried to kill everything that was scrambling me. My armour was dropping rapidly under the onslaught of such firepower. A few enemy pilots that died, jumped out briefly only to come back in new ships 5 minutes later. I had that sinking feeling this would be my first Carrier loss, but for some reason was more irked by the possibility my pimped out Myrmidon inside the Carrier would also be lost
As the enemy fleet was slowly thinned out, explosion after explosion signalling the death of all the support ships, my health dipped into structure. I was calling out targets to the Nyx based on what I thought was scrambling me. I managed to get out of range of a scrambling Dread and the final ship scrambling me was destroyed. With joyous rapture, I watched my Carrier warp off to a safe with merely 3000 structure damage taken.
The Nyx stayed in for a while to finish up the remains of their fleet, but we were taking heavy Fighter losses and the Nyx finally withdrew. After 10 mins of examining the situation, 2 of the Capitals warped/jumped out that we saw and some of their people started to leave. I warily decide to commit my Carrier to combat again and we warp both Nyx and Thanatos in to engage again. We caught a Moros but we believe it had smartbombs and having already lost some dozen fighters with the rest in armour or structure, we didn't feel we had enough to kill it before we lost all our Fighters. So we killed any remaining support and let the Dread go. The PURE fleet then fully withdrew after this.
The battle ended with over 20 Fighters lost and PURE losses totaled to 27 ships and 5 pods. Details can be found on our killboard. We believe PURE managed to recover a fair amount of their loot before we engaged the 2nd time.
This for me has been one of the most intense Battles I've been involved in recent memory. I would like to give full props to PURE for giving it a really good go with us, I really enjoyed it, even though I was ****ting myself the entire time

Wait a minute....this thread isn't about BoB or their allies (or enemies)...is that even allowed?
J/k...nice write up, sounds like it was a tense battle. I've been enjoying all the battle writeups lately...they're making me want to reform my carebear ways and try out some pew-pew.

Sonuds fun. Did you manage to stay close enough to the Nyx that its smartbombs would be able to clear off tacklers with 20km scrams? Otherwise how did you clear all of the tacklers.

It was a close range fleet, I think most of their ships had scramblers. I was simply moving away from the Capitals while our Fighters just took each ship down one by one. By the time I finally warped out, there was not very much left of their main fleet, but it was the Dreads that were killing me by that point.
I would like to add and highlight a very annoying thing. My Damnation which I mentioned earlier has all the armoured gang mods on, and whilst the resistance bonus and extra 15% armour hp probably saved the life of my Carrier, the fact that the other two gang mods have no effect on Capital Repairers whatsoever would've been TREMENDOUSLY useful in an engagement such as this. A mini siege-mode of sorts.

Happy hopping rabbits. Impressive fight and writeup boss; please can I join next time; I'm tired of mining!
Seriously; checking our killboard is exciting and scary at the same time; all of a sudden you see a ton of kills and automatically go "wow, what did Igno kill now?" and then the eyes zooms in on the right hand side of the board looking for that red number in the Mothership column. I do belive this is the right way of using our little Mistress of Doom though; good going lads!

Very true the amount of training and isk that goes into getting a mothership plus fitting it out it is not over powered.
Very nice read need more interesting stories like this here, I had almost lost hope with all the recent whiney threads that have been seen on here.

It's kinda hard to say. Each situation its been in needs to be taken in context.
For example the outbreak attempt on me only saw me down to about 90% armor however I was totaly cap dry, so quite a nasty situation to be in. In another engagement with ISS, i'd frequantly let them get my armor down to about 30% to make them think they were winning so they wouldnt bail from the fight so fast, but again in those situations I wasnt in any real danager due to ISS's low damage potential in their fleet makeups despite their high pilot numbers.

lol it wasnt ment as an insult to ISS, tho in the last major engagement I had with them (we were raiding an offline pos, 20 men engaged me, 10 withdrew to regroup with another incoming 20, for a 30 man assault) and i remember a significant number of them being EW ships (mostly scorps) which are practicaly useless in a anti-mothership action

Yeah we did, and we got unlucky that fighting at the plex entrance altered the environment in ways we didn't expect. Not being able to warp in at optimal, and not being able to drop a cyno on you probably cost us a favourite's chance of the kill. Maybe we should have known about this by testing on Sisi first, but at the time I was largely thinking 'OMG I'm cloaked 10km off a Nyx and those 30 fighters are getting VEEERY close', and we were more concerned about getting the gang engaged asap.
Next time you won't be so lucky. |

Luck had nothing to do with it. The Nyx wasnt only there for guard duty but also because it favours that enviroment to make a stand
In either case had you come in at longer range I would have just escaped. The result would have been far less death on your side, but i'd have been safe and lost no fighters due to the battle being short or non-existant If those few straglers had come in closer then it would have been a total wipe out and we'd have had a free hand to have a go at your capitals.
In anycase credit for bringing the fight none the less and lets not dwell on the "If's" too much

Man, i really likes thoses fights reports, even when they are not connected to some major war. But, i must admit i don't think they bleong here, or otherwise, will all the interesting fights that go on, this forum will be flooded.
Battle/Fight reports should have their own subforums. We should make a thread in General Discussion to ask for it.
It'll be easier for everybody to use them. We would know where to find fight reports, where to find news on corps and alliance, and both would not be clogged by the other. :))
To the op : Nice writing, nice fight, would have been real stress and fun. Gratz for what you did.:) ------------------------------------------------

You should consider that The Establishment probably -the- most powerfull mothership in eve, with a pilot who could surely contest the number one MS pilot spot in expirience, dedicated SP and skill.

Yep, which was why I made the offer. Clearly your FC didn't feel the need to actually make an impact in-game - he must have been scared to see the sky fall down. |

I'm curious though, you were clearly there to get the Nyx. Did you know my Carrier was in system and if so expect me to even warp it in the middle of you?

You've been off and on in PURE space for a while and you think we *didn't* keep tabs on your location?
As far as your capabilities, well, they've been well documented on eve-o already. We knew we were facing the toughest mothership gang in Eve.

You expect us to prevent Establishment from killing you? Worked out pretty well for us anyways, PLUS we are completely paranoid... or at least I am.

Edited by: Ange1 on 13/02/2007 02:18:59 Alas, although I have recently bought a top specced gaming machine and can run Fraps with no slowdown at all, I have found it makes my EVE client unstable and such instability caused me to lose a Raven kill on a gate. As I lost my connection, the web on the Raven was gone and he jumped through in structure and warped off
As such I don't use Fraps anymore, so I'm afraid I did not fraps it and I'm kicking myself for not taking any screenshots. Though do bear in mind I was under a lot of stress at the time
Perhaps one of our adversaries took some screenshots or Fraps?

My thoughts of the battle are these: F*cking awesome! (And yeah, to one of the prior posters, a Drake with full rack of T2 heavy launchers DO pop fighters quick as hell.)
I just wish that dictor bubble would've gone up ON you... would've been real nice to see the next 5 minutes then. :)
All in all, the most satisfying battle I've had in a looooong time. »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»

Bloody drakes. I wasnt able to pick most of them out of the target list early on to remove them as a threat
As for the dictor bubble, doubt it would have made any diference as once I was commited to the fight I didnt intend to run until whatever I could kill was dead

Edited by: Waagaa Ktlehr on 14/02/2007 02:23:12 Although the EST. Nyx is probably NOT the best fitted Mothership in the game it's a damn nice fitting regardless. :) Also, there isn't really a "best" fitting anyway, different situations call for different fits.
The MC has watched EST work with their Nyx at many occasions and in many ways have they inspired myself and others in the MC for our own Mothership doctrine. :)
Props guys, keep griefing with that thing. :) -

Ours is basically fitted as a mobile space fortress capable of doing almost anything it wants without support with officer scrambling, nossing and webbing. Alliances may prefer to use it as a large mobile logistical base without such powerful modules fitted. I prefer our method myself

I think it's safe to say most of the members of the "mothership club" have spent more than a few passing moments studying what the EST have done with their fitting, fighting styles and tactics, etc, before they warped into a fleet or 20 to 30 hostile ships :)
I know I appreciate the willingness of Rawthorn to return questions with answers that I've had along with a couple convo's here and there regarding this or that aspect of operating moms.
