Well I never usually post to general. But I have to comment on this.
Personally I did not like the idea of the warp field always on around 0.0 gates, and disliked it so much I moved all my items out of 0.0 space last night.
Having not read this thread until this morning i find it quite refreshing that CCP have had a good idea.
My personal view is this, these warp inhibitor devices are a good idea, itÆs a good thing for pirates, alliances, traders etc. CCP say this game is about risk, the bigger the risk the bigger the reward. Well previously the reward for pirating and alliance controlled areas were too great for little risk.
People say that gate camping etc, is high risk for pirates, well I donÆt believe so, take yesterday for example one of our corp members in a level 1 battleship was webbed & scrambled by a cruiser and being attacked by a battleship. Now they wanted him to pay a 20mil ransom to be let go. He said no, luckily a few of his corp mates were 1 jump away, so myself and another jumped and warped to his location, the other person got there before me in his cruiser, and the pirates decided to fight it out as the odds were in their favor, with the original Battleship half destroyed. Well I jumped in around 20secs later as I was in a battleship and they immediately warp away. Where was their risk? Now if they were in their own created warp disruption field they it would have been a different outcome. Therefore to make the money from the pirating they would have had to take a significant risk. (Now donÆt get me wrong here either, I found this incident heighy enjoyable, and added some drama to my rather dull npc rat hunt I was doing)
Now IÆm no great ôno even averageö PvP player, I never pick a fight, never go looking for one, and only would get into one to help another corp mate. But I also like to travel 0.0 space, insta-gank does not appeal to me. If pirates/alliances want to control 0.0 choke points, then they should work for it. Invest ISK in the inhibitor fields, have to maintain them, and not be able to just leave them everywhere. As to explore or NPC rat hunt in many areas you have to pay for passes, well time that you have to invest to keep your pass issuing business. No more running from forces with no losses, if you set-up these fields you have to protect them, or loose your investment. And what should the cost of these things be, well many pirates have commented on these forums that they have hundreds of millions of ISK, and the large alliances have even more. So what the hell is 500,000 ISK to these people/corps. These things should be al least 2 to 5 mil a pop, and require looking after. The expense also adds another advantage; only larger corps will have them and afford to look after them. The more space you wish to lock down the bigger the investment. Also the more you want to use the more skills will be required like the drones skills etc.
Now donÆt get me wrong I think pirates / alliances are an important part of the game, but anybody who preys on others has to remember you need prey or basically your sat at gates etc listening to eve-radio reading books or whatever people do, because eventually you will run out of prey. Remember the forums only represent around 10% to 20% of the eve population, and therefore quite often the minority view. I play games for fun, I like taking risks and with the changes Hellmar talked about in this thread will still take risks in 0.0 space, but a risk should be just that, not a certainty.
You want to lock down a region of system, well time to pay up for the privilege; you want to keep control time to invest the time to maintain what you will have to pay for. And hell maybe soon to come may be pirate wars were they fight for control of areas, or even just to steal the warp gate devices.
Remember these devices give you an advantage you did not have before, which is to stop the bookmark insta-jump. Well these will do it, the original blanket idea for all gates would have killed off pirates and alliances game as much as everybody else. Finally what sounds to be a balanced solution? But as always the proof will be in the pudding.
All in all good for all, and again my views and IÆm entitled to them.
