As soon as Test Server comes online it is full!
I spent an age trying to get logged on and when I eventually did get logged in, I got called away
Any chance of doubling the capacity on the test server?

Ive been trying to get onto chaos for days :(
Make chaos big enough and fast enough to carry say 200-300 players please. How can you get good feedback if we cant see what has changed?
Just my 2 cents!

Playing devils advocate - and I agree that it should be more comparable to TQ - why would they do that when the only times it is in this state are when patch day is coming?
It does amaze me, people will test stuff days before a patch comes out, and risk not getting stuff fixed, but won't test it as it is being developed?
baffling.

Usually because they aren't "testing" stuff at all, but working out how best to play the new patch when it's released.
What CCP really ought to do is, once the patch release date is finalised and announced, shut down Chaos completely until after the patch is in. That way only people who're actually TESTING stuff will ever go on the test server.

Judging from Tranquilities performance when they reach 4000+ players online.. I think they need to worry about increasing TQ capacity before they worry about the test server..
I'm sure after tomorrow the test server will die down to it's usually 24 players doing very little practical testing.

I'm one of those regular 24, and frankly, yes, alot use it to prepare for the patch... However, we can't test unless someone tells us to specifically, and alot of times "testing" just involves using the game as normal, and reporting things that don't work .
And I haven't been able to get online today. Oh well, it's out tommorow .
But yes, I think Test server should have anotehr machine helping it out... even times I've been on there, I must say.. that one comp that they have running it is a serious trooper; been through some tough stuff.

First time i get on chaos in weeks and its at 46 people. Totally unusable due to the lag.
Yes, lets double the capacity! Excellent idea.

Yeah i think they should have a small test cluster. maybe only like 2-3 machines but that would help out the lag issue a little i think. Its really annoying not being able to get onto the test server :/

Its a poor standard desktop computer running the testserver... maybe if they used a little of the spare server equipment they have, to build a test server that could manage 100... ? :D
cause right now, it lags like - alot... atm imo its should be 25... |

Edited by: Eldariel on 15/12/2003 21:01:02 I remember the days when we used to struggle to get six people on there at the same time (not for performance reasons I might add!)
Numbers will probably drop off a bit again after the patch - until shiva comes online in a bigger way at least. The fact the box has reached full cap every day (pretty much all day) for the last week is a good sign this box should be upgraded prior to the next "big" patch though

I know it's not a really good analogy but it's what popped into my head when I read this thread.
When we test changes to an application at work prior to putting it into production the systems integration and user acceptance testing environments try to mirror the production environment as much as possible.
I'm not suggesting CCP have the same server set up for Chaos as TQ, that would (I assume) be exceedingly costly, but a similar small scale set up that is along the same architectural lines as TQ and allows a larger number of players online might give better test results.

I meant use more than one desktop PC and allow more users.
