So ever since the new changes from Crucible (which the vast majority are way awesome), I've noticed that just about every other system has a sun that flashes like crazy.
My screen, flashing solid white intermittently, cannot be good for my health (considering it does actually cause me headaches after awhile). Now my current remedy for this is to simply rotate the camera away from the sun - which means if combat layout of a mission or fight happens to be TOWARDS the sun, I'm screwed.
Is this a known issue? I recall it happening pre-Crucible, but it was very rare. This is now happening on a very regular basis and, in a way, it really destroys the playability of the game because literally you cannot see the screen from it flashing white constantly.
Does this have to do with the new flare on the suns? And is CCP aware of the problem? Of all the things Crucible needs fixed (which isn't too much, you got a ton right) this needs to be near the top because of how severely it affects gameplay and player comfort. I joke about epilepsy, except this issue is so bad it really COULD kill someone that's epileptic.
Any others suffering from this very annoying graphic bug? |

Drivers are fully updated - still having the problem. |

Kinda sad that it's never been fixed...
Because it really sucks. It's more annoying than ships 'poofing' out missiles. At least that doesn't blow your eyes out when playing at night... |

Well nice to know I'm not the only one at least...
Any CCP response on the issue and if they have an idea on how to fix it? |

*sigh* No Kidding Akita...with the luck we've had getting graphic fixes in EVE's history, chance are half of them WOULD be fixed with back-dated drivers...lol |

Bump.
I'm now interested to see how many others have this problem. It's pretty serious in terms of affecting gameplay...I mean, it forces you to ignore 180 degrees of the game in visual terms! The alternative is headaches and blindness from your screen simulating camera flashes. Is CCP actually aware of this issue and are they trying to fix it?

Bumping - Can CCP confirm this as a known issue and maybe explain a temporary work-around? Or better yet, put in a word for a permanent fix! |

Well...it IS a pretty bad problem. I normally don't get uppity over a botched feature, but when it directly affects the ability to enjoy the game entirely...well, you get the idea. I just hope it doesn't take 100+ pages to get a response from CCP! |

CCP Mannapi wrote:Hi there,
Is this view angle dependent for everyone who experiences this?
Also, is this tied to solar systems. Is it more likely to happen in certain systems? If so please list them here or preferably in a Bug Report.
I've seen it in many different systems - some times, and some times not - so for me it does not seem to be system dependent. I do indeed dual box, and I noticed someone mention that as a potential cause. I'm almost certain the issue is related to sun flare...here's my example.
When warping acorss a system, sometimes the screen becomes very light blue - you can see through this mind you, like something casting a blue light on the system. This brightens as you rotate the camera towards the sun, and lessens if you face opposite the sun. If you actually VIEW the sun, the flare ceases and usually won't return (rarely it does).
The main problem I listed probably has to do with the sun occluded option - I don't mind the sun appearing and disappearing because of this, but I do mind it causing the incredible white flash on my screen which I assume is an insta-flare from the sun suddenly 'appearing' from behind objects rapidly.
The problem is most apparent at Jump Gates and/or sites - I honestly can't say I've seen it while at stations. I see it most frequently during missions, but I also see it in roid belts when my corp gang mines. It's not the roids blocking the sun either and often, according to the solar map, there are no stations, planets, or other sites between us and the sun - which implies it's not an object affecting it.
I wish I could give more information - or better yet pictures. I may try and video it happening if I can. At this point I just turn the camera away when it happens, but that's very problematic in missions if what I need to fly towards (for looting, fighting, w/e) is the same direction as the sun. It really breaks the enjoyment of the game - not like you can't play EVE from strictly the overview. |

This made me laugh...
In all seriousness, everyone else who has this issue please submit a bug report if you can give concrete details:
If it happens in the same systems If it happens at specific events (like rats spawning or some such) If you see a correlation between hardware and the problem (Dual Boxing only?)
This isn't something affecting all of New Eden (or maybe it is and most just didn't bother to report it...), but it's a serious problem none the less that ought to be remedied. It dates back years, but until now it wasn't a severe issue as it occurred rarely. This implies that w/e code affects it can be changed - it's not something necessarily buried deep in the chasm of ccp development.
Thanks for all input - if you DON'T have this issue, do post your video cards and hardware. That might help form a correlation. For example I'm noticing ATX and NVidia mentioned on problem people a lot, but not much of anything else. |

Pandorium9 wrote:Johnathan Roark wrote:This even happens to me on the login screen. Sometimes happens to me too at the login screen and in game.
I didn't even think about this - but it also happens on my login screen sometimes too! Usually right as the game starts up and the Condors fly from overhead. Once they fly around the station it usually has stopped. It does not happen everytime on startup, which is odd since I assume the login background is 100% the same each time?
However, settings affect this background too iirc - as in if I lower the details, for example, the background details will diminish too as if in game. But that 'fake system' background is a solid example of the flashing occurring at random. |

ctx2007 wrote:This problem will only affect people with photo-sensitive epilespy (flashing lights, strobes etc) so if in doubt see your doctor to double check.
I suffer with epilespy myself but not with the above, there are many different things that can trigger seizures and yes they can be fatal.
So for safetys sake get checked out, Eve is a great game and it would be a shame if something like this spoilt it.
Fly safe.
Like he says, this can be a very serious issue - all kinds of players play EVE, I remember color-blindness being a topic of importance quite some time ago and the desire to have the game have a UI setting for color-blind players. (Color Blind, if you did not know, doesn't necessarily mean seeing black and white only - it can be a whole range of random colors, just not all of them like normal sight.)
That this happens on the login screen means 'turning the camera' isn't an option either - but it also proves it happens with a still camera. So whatever the problem is, it's not necessarily the angle of the camera but directly tied to the sun's effects. |
