EvE can't be saved. Not anymore. It is what it has become, and no solution to its problems will be found. It's still the best SciFi MMO out there by a wide margin, but I think a large majority of the players are willing to leave when the next great thing comes along.

A Player wipe would kill EvE. We aren't willing to start over in this world that we've already seen before. We'll start at level 1 in WoW or Vanguard and forget all about EvE and the investment we made, but we won't go back to Clone Grade Alpha and try again.

Besides, there's no reason to think it would work. EvEMon, multiple accounts and the current iteration of software leads to predictable results: The worst-case scenario we already saw on Serenity.

What we need is a sequel to EvE. More complex tech trees for T1 stuff, no T2 stuff, level 4 skill requirements for capital ships and a 20-million skillpoint cap on characters. Removal of the attribute system and learning skills. Division of skills into Combat, Industry and Social categories and the ability to train one of each simultaneously. Redesigned sovreignty and outpost systems, with tiered outpost development that allows the outpost to be built up by the owner and broken down by attackers, and only conquered when it's at the bottom level, with "reinforced" periods between vulnerable times.

A game that everyone can compete in, and that anyone can excel at within a year.

CCP's credibility is in question lately, and they're losing old accounts for that. No new player can hope to be worthwhile in EvE, and new accounts aren't staying.

EvE's gameplay structure and the development of the characters, equipment and galaxy are all dependent on the passage of time. Now the game is getting old, and tired. It's winding down. Maybe another year. Maybe two, and entropy will bury this game. I hope to be here to the end, but if something better comes along, I'll walk away without regret.
