don't apply real-world honor on a computer-game
you don't have to follow some medieval honor-codex, you don't have to follow the honor-codex of duelists from 19th century.
all you have to follow is the honor-codex of (computer-)gamers - don't cheat, play by the rules, accept to lose and don't play the game just for the win but for the interaction and socialization with others.
when i say honor I am nothinking on any code of honor but on the highers sense of the word. Soemthing that embracs everything from celts to Klingons taking a little detour to avoid BoB
If brute force doesn't solve your problem.. then you are not using enough!! |

I think the old adage that: 'All is fair in love or war.' Works quite well in this case. If I can flee from a gate camp I will or die trying. If I think I can kill someone in an unfair manner I will.
And there is no honour in this game as there is no true consequences how can anyone be held to an honorable path? _________________________________________________________

Imho It's much about what do you feel is winning in eve.
For some players an important element of vicotry is fair-play (or some other rules they have imposed themself), they would not appreciate the outcome of their actions otherwise.
On the opposite side you will have players who are just about scoring - which can be anything they choosed: isk, killmails, scams, etc.. For these any trick (exploit, lame tactics, etc.) will be just fine, since they don't have any other external 'ruling'.

It's not really true, some peoples needs/wants to percieve themself as the one who are acting 'fair'. So they don't need external consequences, internal consequences are enough. Also honor is not a term that should be confronted with external consequences, you are more talking of something like a 'social reward' for being percieved as a 'honorable person'.

Unfortunately, this game with all it's meta-gaming insanity, coupled with the severe death penalties, makes it difficult for anyone truly competitive to remain utterly honorable. That's why I tend to like rp'ers, they have a completely different rationale about things, usually. |

Edited by: Jamius on 19/02/2007 16:02:39 I'll actually give you an example Evil rather than debate the morals
The most honourable thing I've ever done in PvP must be when I attached a barge in low sec in my crow a while back (largest barge, don't remember the name).
I attacked and started orbitting with my AB on while spamming rockets. He lets out his t2 drones and they start hitting me for pretty good damage. I still think I've got it covered but his armor holds up much better than expected. Low on armor myself and the battle starting to turn , I still had ample time to escape.
However I was so impressed that a guy in a barge was doing so well I stayed until I popped, laughing as it happened. The honourable thing to do was lose, not run away.
We chatted after it and he left well chuffed he'd thwarted a nasty pirate in his barge. I promised not to bother him again for the night.

Profit is a big part of it, because without money there's not much you can do in this game. But I never want it to become the reason I play. I quit eve for a while, because it had really become just about watching an imaginary number get bigger, and I decided that there were other things I would rather do with my time. When I came back to the game, it was with a totally different set of priorities... I've given up on trying to get rich in-game and I've been spending a lot more time doing things that are more interesting and challenging than running missions and mining.
It's all about the fun for me. ___________ Composed primarily of meat.
